Bashmet really utilizes the tones and textures of his instruments very well. I wish in the states we had a greater appreciation for violists and their versitility. *Yes I'm a violinist and I do think that viola is a great instrument.

I love this Viola piece. As a violinist/Celtic musician I can appreciate how much more difficult the viola is to get around on than the violin because of its size. I'm looking forward to performing this piece with renown violist Joel Rosenberg in Kanab, UT, for EarthFest this May.

It's sad to see people saying one instrument is way better than another and how they "suck"...Why can't we just admit that both instruments are beautiful? :( I play the violin but I love both violin and viola; they just have their own different styles in their voice :)

Great performance. He's brilliant. Gorgeous viola sound. But I found the editing *extremely* annoying. The view moves around too much. When the soloist is playing a wild, highly-technical passage, I'm really not interested in seeing the second violins playing a steady eighth-note accompaniment. I get that the editor was trying to show all the folks who were making the music, but in places he/she seemed to just disregarded what was going on with the solo part. Especially with Paganini pieces, it's really *all* about the soloist.

I believe it is Paganini's Quartet Number 15. But I am not sure...I tried to translate the term given but I could have been horribly wrong. Don't take my words as cannon.

I play viola too, think they're amazing. But violins are pretty nice too. Just enjoy both instruments, it'll make your time in orchestras much less of a bother.
