They mean the technic of elements of canadian pair was easier than of russian pair. And even if the elements of both pairs would be the same, the world should just compare a step up of the russian pair with the fail of the canadians. The mistake of the canadians of course bigger. That is why they should be second.
@sorellman

Do you realize that was only one element of the entire program, and that it was an easy one compared to other types of lifts? The Russian's program was better, even with that small fail. Other than that, the new scoring system has eliminated all the politics in skating scoring.

This video really glosses over how widespread the problems were with figure skating judges favouring certain skaters and countries was up to that point. The problem did not magically go away with the new scoring system, but it was an improvement. Even with anonymity, it was pretty obvious sometime that certain judges had higher opinions of some skaters. But removing the highest and lowest scores given to a routine removed some bias.

Made the system anonymous so the public will not able to know or even guess which judges got the bribe. The new system just give them a free pass to openly cheat or just an easy way to fix the score. 'Anonymous' mean that you can cheat the score and nobody will know.
@alan137
@alan137 4 жыл бұрын
@@jamstreet008 scores will probably vary only slightly between judges, so if you were to bribe a judge, it'd be hard for you verify if they followed through. Also because only a random subset of the judges scores are taken, this makes it even harder to verify because you don't know who's score counted and there's no guarantee that a bribed score would even count. Is bribing still possible? Sure, but the new system discourages it as much as possible.

Sotnikova was not perfect at Sochi. Therefore, she is not entitled to such a huge TES score. Yuna's 3-3 jumps higher level than Sotnikova in the short program. In Yuna’s short program to score a minimum of 5 points or more higher. She performed with a jump of the maturity of the other players and it was a different level. Sotnikova did well in Sochi... BUT the Yuna’s level is another level. These ridiculous results favourable to Sotnikova biased referees(judges). Sochi's judgment are Russians or Russia were judged friendly to Eastern Europe. Who Were the Figure Skating Judges? ■ Judge No. 2: Yuri Balkov of Ukraine. At the 1998 Winter Games in Nagano, Japan, Balkov was taped by the Canadian judge Jean Senft explaining what order the competitors would finish in the ice-dancing competition before it took place. He was suspended for one year. He returned to judging and is certified by the international federation. ■ Judge No. 4: Zanna Kulik of Estonia. (Russia were judged friendly to Eastern Europe) ■ Judge No. 6: Alla Shekhovtsova of Russia. She is the wife of Valentin Piseev, general director of the Russian figure skating federation. ■ Judge No. 9: Adriana Domanska of Slovakia.(Russia were judged friendly to Eastern Europe) ■ Technical controller: Alexander Lakernik of Russia, who has been the vice president of the Russian figure skating federation. He was voted chairman of the international federation’s technical committee in the wake of the 2002 Salt Lake scandal. ■ Assistant technical specialist: Olga Baranova of Finland.(She is a naturalized Russian with Finland.) ■ Replay operator: Alexander Kuznetsov of Russia. In the aftermath of the judging scandal at the 2002 Salt Lake Games, Russian officials, including Kuznetsov, expressed frustration that the Canadians pushed to have the pair of Jamie Sale and David Pelletier elevated to a gold medal. “The Russians would never have brought up this issue,” said Kuznetsov, identified as a “figure skating coach.” “The Russians would have proven their right to victory at the next competition.” When you see this, what do you think? I come up with the word collusion, corruption, scandal. These referees are given to the players points in Sochi. OH! It’s an open and shut case! Indeed, were you can say these results would stand justified? So, So many people from these results, we can call a scandal in Sochi, home cooking. During a season in which any players are usually more than 50 points higher than the score to their last competition just like Sotnikova. but Sotnikova’s scores somehow jumped more than 50 points in about 2months compared to her last competition before Sochi(20 poiont increase in PCS) That's even if it was the Olympics taking place in the home. Vancouver Olympics‘s Joe Annie Rochette did not receive a score on booming like her.

"Then Anton did this" ...seriously?! a lot of figure skaters have won the Olympic gold with errors in their programs. Just because you skate a flawless program doesn't mean the gold is secure; it's the quality of the overall elements that make the program a success, and Berezhnaya & Sikarulidze certainly achieve that with their LP.

There may be doubt of the outcome, but since the game was rigged, it is only speculation. Whomever won should have done so without such a shadow over them. In fact, the Russian pair, if they had any integrity, they should have returned the medals as they were not obtained legitimately, regardless of whether they did or did not know. Now every time they look at those medals they will not be sure if they actually earned it or not, thus even though gold, they will look tarnished.

Hey, gotta give that French judge credit for speaking up at the very least. I don’t think most would have after it was already presumably a “done deal”. It clearly wasn’t the first time judges had agreed to “exchange” votes, and obviously nobody else’s conscience had won out before. She probably destroyed her career, and she *certainly* tarnished her name forever to right that wrong. I wonder if the female skater (Sale? I’m sorry, first time hearing of this) hadn’t shown as much emotion and the male skater hadn’t immediately waved the results off as BS, if she would’ve felt as guilty... I also wonder if she had a few drinks at the lobby bar. I can see both things getting to me.

I see that anyone here does not understand that there is a difficulty in the program... If you done simpliest program clear and you've done difficult with a little mark it is still not the same. This is an example when politic goes to the sport. This is a scam and chinese couple with bronze where totally right to not join this circus. If russins couple would not join than you would say that canadians totally win that.

They definitely had a better program than Canadians. Plus they did NOT fall. Your performance is from the time you step on ice until you leave the arena. That fall at the end of the program, although juvenile, counts. Cannot be Gold medalists with a fall, unless everyone else also fell.

This is some nice revisionist history. The Russians are a legendary pair. The Canadians should have gotten silver or bronze in 2001 and silver in 2002. Their basic skating and the intricacy of the programs are not comparable.

This is why the old system was so awful. Mind boggling that a small bobble on a jump should be the deciding factor between a program that was much more complex with much higher GOEs and PCS and a garbage juvenile program that was supposedly clean (it wasn't, there were tons of prerotated and underrotated elements)

Doesn’t “simpler routine” imply the Canadian routine was worth fewer points overall? So that even with a minor mistake the Russian pair could win fairly with their higher presentation scores? And the fact that the Canadians had a larger mistake in their sp when the Russians skated theirs cleanly? Plus the Canadian free skate was not original to the season - while you can skate old routines isn’t it kind of accepted that they can be score lower that an original? Like how the video totally ignores the giant North American media campaign that created the controversy. The Canadian pair played it safe with their routine and lost on presentation as a result - it’s poor sportsmanship on their behalf to behave that way during a medal ceremony and poor sportsmanship to even accept the offered joint gold. The Russians should have been offered the Pierre de Coubertin medal for accepting a joint gold with grace despite having won fairly.

Back under the 6.0 system, "simpler" wasn't necessarily a bad thing. A graceful program in which the elements were completed successfully, and which had artistry and resonated with the audience, was a successful program. There were clearly some issues with that old system, but honestly every time a skater falls or stumbles attempting to complete a difficult element under the current system, and outscores skaters who did not fall, I sort of miss 6.0.

It wasn't the Russian skater's fault at all! They did their best, albeit the 'small' mistake that Anton did with the jump.Their skating is superior to S&P in every aspect. Why should they be stripped of their medal? That's utter nonsense! Also their program was much harder than S&P. If we are talking about mistakes, S&P's mistake in the short is 'bigger' than Anton's. The Chinese pair should have been second instead after the short.

In Vancouver, Canada gave Kim the shittiest artistic scores in SP because there was a slight chance for their Canadian skater, but she flopped in FP so they didn't have any reasons to not give Kim normal in SP. Like, let's just say that if the skater is not ideal, home country of the Olympic games will always do it. I will not even speak about USA Olympics...overscoring there was always laughable. Hopefully, judging system will be changed in some way.

Imagine having to deal with an abusive partner since you were 14, a partner who almost killed you in an "accident". So, you recover and start skating again, with another partner, after a few years together, you are praised for your talent and perfect technique. You arrive at the Olympics to finally win your well-deserved gold medal, just to have to share it, because of the bad sportsmanship and lack of ethics of a certain canadian pair, like, Elena Berezhnaya didn't deserve this. Ekaterina Gordeeva said herself, that the only ones who could have competed as equals, against her and Sergey G., were Berezhnaya and Sikharulidze, because they had everything technical, harmony, chemistry, their synchronization was incomparable. The seemingly "perfect jumps" and "complicated lifts" of the other pair are nothing.

well i wish this video mentioned that the french judge has maintained she was innocent throughout the years. even last year she gave an interview about how she was turned into a scapegoat for a result that displeased the north american skating community. it was honestly disgraceful the way north american media spun the narrative against berezhnaya/sikharulidze even before they took the ice. it's also ridiculous how sale/pelletier, all these years later, still keep playing the victim card "we were robbed of a full olympic gold medal experience" when it was s/b whose rightful victory was invalidated at every turn by a biased media
