Linux comes with tools like dig, nslookup, hostnamectl, resolvectl, etc. Several of them do similar tasks, but it's important to understand what they're actually doing, and how DNS queries are executed on a system.
We learn about nsswitch.conf, resolv.conf, /etc/hosts, and how they all work together. The joke in IT is that problems are "always DNS" -- so it's important to understand how it works!
