Filament Friday #27 - 3D Printing Wood Miniature Furniture for Doll House Size Project

Chuck uses his recently reflashed Repetier Da Vinci 1.0 3D printer to print with wood filament. He prints a miniature end table/bookcase for his wife's miniature house.

WOW, CHUCK! Your wife is talented. As a kid, there was this guy that made miniature doll houses that he sold where I grew up. I was always amazed by his talent in the wood making but also with the miniature he would make for the houses. 3D printing makes this a much easier thing to do nowadays. Theirs this Boardway set designer that 3D prints here design in miniature before taking on the task of a full size set to build. Tell your wife, to keep up the great work.

I am surprised to see you aren't using the metric system, just assumed that would be common in CAD and CAM?

Actually I am thinking about purchasing a 1.0 A after seeing that it can be reflashed to print other materials at an economical rate. If anything Chuck has once again promoted their product. I currently have a ctc chinese makerbot knock off which I am reasonably happy with but with it being such an old model i find it difficult to get spare parts. Although I don't currently have a 1.0A most of what I see here is relatable.

+Chuck Hellebuyck's Electronic Products R1 Plus comes at end of August. Matterhackers just had the R1 at $100 off for $699 or you can preorder the plus for $799. My extruder gear randomly stopped, I thought it was the embedded driver and tested by switching connections which seemed to confirm it was that. Then 4 days later it started working again, I had even checked for loose/broken wires. Went looking into the R1 at that point, xyz was no help and twice did not call when they said they would.

***** I need to ask something , Im having a weird problem with the extruder , davinci 1.0 , I unclogged it by soaking in acetone for 4 hours , burned the heck out of it with a propane torch and cleaned the inside deeply good , when I use load filament it came out straight and thick , but when I send a print the quantity of abs extruded is really small compared to the one discard in the loading process - what can it be?

Doesn't really look like wood. I have been thinking about using a wood filament myself but everything I have seen doesn't really look like wood. I am wondering if that is because everything I have seen has been zoomed so close that it shows all of the print layers. I am wondering if looking at it with the naked eye makes it look more like wood. thanks

Well it's not going to have grain but you can control the darkness via print temp. Then you can actually sand and stain it.
