Fusing or welding filament can be confusing and frustrating. This is a super easy method that is predictable reliable easy to perform and creates a very strong joint that doesn't need to be sanded, trimmed, or filed it's ready to go.

You are really great. I bought some 1/16 silicon tubing and tried this our. I used a propane lighter for heat. This worked out and put the two pieces of PLA together. Thanks for you great idea.

i wonder what is the shortest length of tubing that is sufficient?

First I must ask are you, Norm Hunstad? Secondly, I think about 1 inch is probably necessary maybe a bit more I’m not sure 1 inch seems to work OK.

I understand your frustration. It does take a little practice. Be sure you really have both ends, melted and then hold those together with your fingertips. Keeping them to together so that there’s no gap it will work. Give it another try. Thanks consider subscribing. Take care, Joe.

Also, be sure that the silicone tubing is 1/16 inch inside diameter of the filament needs to be pretty tight in there
