Don’t usually comment on videos but this is genuinely one of the best tutorials on KZbin for flight simming. Thanks Filbert and Eli for this, and thanks for the also doing the RNAV approach, really great for getting your head around Boeing’s slightly confusing vnav settings between decent and approach logic.

As a former real world 777 pilot, I think this tutorial is superb and full of some excellent obscure knowledge about this fantastic aircraft. I love this guys teaching style. His expertise and experience shines through. PMDG really did a wonderful job of recreating this plane and it will only get better with future updates.

Great format. Pilot-splaining to a smart, inquisitive Brit=magic. Love this and the info being shared here. Having two people walking thru the setup in a way that I would if I had the opportunity to sit in a cockpit with a pilot is brilliant and dont think anyone else is doing. Perfection. Had to chime back in when you got to the arrivals bit - thanks so much for asking the question that no one ever asks or no other simmers on YT ever explain is if and should the arrival always be plugged into the box while still on the ground. Thank you!

I am not a 777 pilot, but a 747-400, 747-8, and 787 pilot (retired) This is great, I will watch this full video since I will end up getting the PMDG version for MSFS. I did not realize how long this bird is. The -400 is 231 feet long, but it depends on fuel load whether the 777 is wider. The 747-400 is 211 feet wide with a low fuel load, but in loading a heavy fuel load, the wings flex out to 213 feet, making it 1 foot wider and the tail is higher at 64 feet on the -400…

A great piece of work……Thank you. The fact that the genuine 777 pilot has been there, done that and got the ‘tee shirt’ to prove it, gives gravitas to the whole set-up/flight experience. After less than 10 mins of watching the tutorial (and I consider myself a fairly experienced pilot) I had already learnt 2 things that are specific to the 777 FMC set-up flow. Credit to you for putting this all together and of course to PMDG for a seriously amazing piece of development……..no wonder it took longer than originally anticipated……..but well worth the wait.

I remember trying to teach my buddy how to fly PMDG's 738 just over a discord screen share... I can agree with Eli it's a mental exercise - considering I can't point or anything and it's just a whole bunch of "no up, no too far up... no that's not autopilot panel, no that's the wrong screen." The best moment of that session was after getting them somehow all the way to the arrival airport their TCAS yells "traffic traffic", so I told him "there's no way I'm teaching you how to do a go around right now just continue the landing." Then 2 seconds later there was an A320 taking off on the perpendicular runway (it wasn't even active XD gotta love MSFS online) Anyway, just from my basic understanding of the 737 this tutorial was beautiful. I cannot wait for the airplane to release as now I understand (nearly) everything about this aircraft. Great video ty to you and Eli!

so question now that I re-watched it. @2:57:23 We say our new CRZ ALT is FL360 with the new step.... but earlier in the video, the instructor mentions they live and die by the RECD FL, which happens to be 340. so now we're over our RECD that we're supposed to live and die by which is supposed to give us best speed & fuel efficiency. Now we're 200 feet away from our MAX which he also mentions we want to have a buffer of 1000 or so to get over bad weather etc.
@FilbertFlies6 ай бұрын
It's a very good question, and I think the simple answer is that that's PMDG's step climb logic - it climbs as high as it can. Obviously as PIC, you can opt not to do this. I'll ask Eli for his thoughts next time I speak to him.

In the approach phase (or all of the flight apart from TO and the visual portion of the landing) the focus is on the MCP, PFD and ND i.e. IFR flying. In your video, especially during the RNAV approach phase, half the screen is taken up with clouds! How about closing in on the instruments, maybe with occasional outside views?😯
