So I want to build one... BUT... all these cabinets are powder coated during construction and you never know what chemicals is used for the powder coat base. I dont want that stuff leaching into my familys barbecue. So my plan is to make a fake cabinet box with 4 drawer kits from HD and weld tack the box and shelves. Mite post a vid when I do it.
@wolfy19872 жыл бұрын
You can burn off the paint, or you can use a paint stripper

Nice build man! Im currently building mine. Did you venilate the bottom drawer? And where did you get the racks?
@dunnjustinn66 Жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for watching. I got the racks from Walmart, they were some cheap drying racks.I would just crack the bottom drawer open a bit to regulate the temp.
@andrewviolette53682 жыл бұрын
If you don’t mind me asking how did you fix the plastic wheel problem. Just ran into that same problem. Wondering if I should burn them off and let it just be a sliding drawer?
@dunnjustinn662 жыл бұрын
That's actually what I did. After they burnt off I just left it that way. It may not be the best way to do it, but it works for mine.

Did you sand it down? Or repaint with high heat paint? Asking for myself... Also in the midst of creating a file cabinet smoker...
@dunnjustinn663 жыл бұрын
I did sand the inside and outside. Also cooked the inside real good to burn off anything i might have missed. Good luck with your build!

I like it, man. Cool video. Glad your smoker worked. I plan on making one this weekend from a 3 drawer file cabinet we have. What temp were you getting? Oh, and I'm pretty sure you'd want to smoke something that large a little longer than six hours.
@dunnjustinn664 жыл бұрын
Thank you! It was alot of fun and I was getting a decent temp anywhere from 250 to like 320. I really wanted to smoke it longer but underestimated my time so threw it in the oven to finish it off. Still came out good though.
@servihomestead43244 жыл бұрын
Oh, yeah, you did say that you put it in the oven. I found the old vid of Luke on Catfish & Carp. I like the use of an electric hot plate to heat up the chips. I made a "burn-off" fire in mine this weekend and found the (melted) sheets of plastic you mentioned behind each door. I found it difficult to keep a good fire going, but I'll be trying a pork leg and some bacon slabs this week. Thanks again for the video.

Like it- wonder if you could have foiled wrapped it and finished it off one drawer below instead of the inside kitchen oven?
@dunnjustinn66 Жыл бұрын
I would have liked to have done it that way, but I misjudged my timing lol. That's the only reason it went in the oven honestly.
@ashtongreen79494 жыл бұрын
how much coals or wood do you use to maintain the temperature
@dunnjustinn664 жыл бұрын
Well honestly, I'm still playing around with different wood and coals. What is key is good ventilation. Without that is doesn't matter what you use.
@liamdoherty82943 жыл бұрын
how long does the charcoal last? sounds like a 6 hour smoke would require a lot of topping up
@dunnjustinn663 жыл бұрын
Depends on the coal you use. I went with lump coal and oak wood. I believe I only had to mess with it once or twice. If you know how to control the air flow, you can make it last awhile.
@liamdoherty82943 жыл бұрын
@@dunnjustinn66 OK thanks dude. Definitely gonna get this done for the spring coming. Keep up the good work

Only difference i did was build a long fire and burn all the plastic off and then watch it down.

What did you do about the plastic wheels if they melted?
@dunnjustinn664 жыл бұрын
It will still slide on the track, just not as smooth. Depending on how the rails are it might not even effect it very much.
@kimmonsm4 жыл бұрын
@@dunnjustinn66 I had the same problem. Afterwards the top 2 draws had issues closing. I built mine 2 yrs ago and the wheels finally melted. I'm in the process of cutting the draws off the top 2 draws and keeping the front panels. I'll hinge and handle them. Then drill holes on the top to hang chains and hooks. If It's a success, I'll let you know.

@@kimmonsm I'm going to start on a build and thought about doing that from the start. I think the hinge will work better than the drawers. Have you started this yet?

Russell LeBoeuf Yes Sirrr. I did a burn out last night and will be smoking some baby backs, some jerk tips, whole chicken and some links tomorrow. I’ll send some pics or video.
