I like the desperate attempt by the website to redefine NPC as "a well-meaning person who avoids controversy and believes we are stronger together." No. It means someone with no opinion or thought of their own. Because they have no opinion or thought of their own, their possible responses are limited to what they've been programmed with. You could redefine that sentence to "a well-meaning person who obeys social programming and fell for the diversity meme." And it still wouldn't be...wait, no, that is pretty NPC. Edit: I took the test and now it's literally lecturing me because I'm not a good NPC and apparently I ought to be, because what it AKSHUALLY means is 'kind and respectful'. Get fucked lmao, this constant attempt to reframe everything is so tiresome. Literally 'get with the program'. The point of this test is to make normal people get a high NPC score and then tell them 'but hey, that's a GOOD thing, and anyone telling you otherwise is just mean and antisocial and probably racist and sexist.' It's normalizing accepting The Experts/The Media/Your Humble Representatives at face value, blatant propaganda to take the sting out of being told you can't think for yourself.

I got a 19%, I'd make a very poor NPC lol PS, a functional Capitalist society does what's best for the individual since that results in far higher long-term profits, just look at how Valve runs Steam, but its been falling apart due to short-term greed so that's why it sucks now even though it was the best system in history several decades ago. We peaked in the 60s and have been falling since then, its only becoming glaringly obvious now. Communism, aka Socialism stage 2, does what's best for its leaders due to natural human greed, when we think in the long term as Communist leaders do, they do what they can to stay in power for as long as possible, that is to say, to do what they want the most, in a Capitalist system, thinking long term makes you realize that doing good by the individual will net you higher profits in the long term and thus is the more monetarily beneficial plan of action and thus is also doing good for themselves with the side effect of doing good by the person, its a system that takes advantage of intelligence and greed to pull up the individual instead of push them down like most other systems in the world and its the reason the USA became the world's main superpower for several decades. Adapt Capitalism with checks and balances against short-term greed and nearsighted-thinkers and adjust it to work even with a single global currency and even among larger distances like interplanetary and interstellar civilization and society will flourish the fastest it can. Its always best to work with a particular tendency in a population than to try to change a fundamental aspect of said population, work with human greed and don't try to beat it out of the humans since all you'll end up with is poverty and desolation. Thanks for reading my TED Talk.

The issue is most conspiracy theories will never be actual theories. Believing in nonsense on the off chance it is correct is not a good way to go.

@@olivercharles2930 Just because something is called a conspiracy theory doesn’t make it nonsense, it’s usually something people say when they want other people to think it’s nonsense. The government involvement in UFO cover ups for example, it was a conspiracy theory until they admitted it, doesn’t mean there’s aliens in Area 51 but it does mean they cover up UFO sightings.

There is no way that she just used a top argument that supports capitalism as an argument against it. It was like she said the sun is hot, therefore the sun cannot be hot lol. Side note, you may think you use that zoomer terminology ironically as a joke but that is how zoomer talk is supposed to work so you actually are just being a zoomer. I find you entertaining btw, I just couldn’t let that statement slide by like I didn’t see it.
@Sapheiorus
@Sapheiorus 6 ай бұрын
Let's articulate the argument so it sounds coherent, because clearly, yeah, Filian only expressed a surface-level version that tripped on itself. The capitalist class manufactures consent through several mechanisms, but the one she seems to be attempting to describe is the part where neoliberal myths are crafted and propagated through the world of the working class. The idea of "what they want" (the political class bred and promoted by the capitalist class) being "what you want" as the working class is how they justify trust in the bourgois democratic system and status quo policies that reinforce and preserve the capitalist mode of production, work, and life. You want "choices as a consumer", so they will promote private ownership of production and incentivize expansion of those ownerships. You want "no terrorism", so they will support the genocide and exploitation of colonial populations abroad whether we are there or not because uppity populations creates instability and are full of people who "hate freedom", i.e. capitalism, i.e. wage slavery and lack of say in what their land and resources are used for as residents of the land. You want "jobs", so they will give the already rich private owners of business more money, land, and resources (probably from those colonialized countries and territories) so MAYBE they give you jobs or at least not take more of them away. "What they want" is also woven with codes that are made to appeal to people commonly, but those codes ultimately are not entirely faithful to what people actually care about (not "choices", but fairer prices or free entitlements to life-critical goods and services; not merely "peace", but good will and clean consciences with respect between all mankind; not "jobs", but the guaranteed right and ability to live comfortably), and the application of policy that supposedly follows these desires doesn't practically serve the working class most of the time; it DOES consistently serve the capitalist class, though. "It's a big club, and you ain't in it." - George Carlin talking about exactly this shit, 2005, "Life Is Worth Losing" The game of trying to align the interests of the capitalist class with something the working class wants is one the politicians play for the sake of their donors, their sponsors, their rich friends, and the media moguls that give their voices and faces publicity in the first place. They tell us things to convince us that our interests are aligned to manufacture consent for things we don't really benefit from. But they'll tell us they succeeded, and, not being able to consider the material effect of large-scale policies and not giving attention to what has been done once we ride the high of our electoral victories, we take them at their word. Meanwhile, the capitalist class knows the score, and they are almost always winning so long as strikes and unionization isn't happening. What they, the business owners, want is NOT what we, the workers, want. We are opposites, in fact. They just don't want us to realize that. Capitalism incentivizes and leads to a conflict of class between those who own the means of production and those who work under the owners and unwittingly give them societal power over us by virtue of owning those means. To say that capitalists deceive workers regularly to believe that we share a common interest is an argument against the idea that those in power work for the sake of our best interests, which delegitimizes the validity of trusting capitalism, the current economic/political order where capitalists are the ones in charge, to be compatible with democratic and humanitarian values that we suppose our society to uphold and benefit from. This is what Filian was most likely trying to say.

@@cosmicelectron Your counterstatements are similarly overgeneralized to the point of being untruthful to the actual general tendencies and facts. It's so full of neoliberal presuppositions and myths that I would use up many more times the amount of comment space I already have to deconstruct and counter every statement you made contradicting my own. I'll keep this simple, but it will still be too long. You disconnect government from the results of economic interrelations, acting as though it makes no sense that when there are wealthy people, they don't have the level of control I imply. You believe in the democracy you live in, but don't question the manner in which politicians are brought into existence on your ballot. Sure, you vote, but do these votes really represent your positions, or are you being railroaded? These political parties are not headed and funded by the common people, but through the wealthy. Those wealthy share in owning capital... you know, the word that etymologically composes the idea of "CAPITALism"? Capitalism isn't essentially "free trade" at all. It was always the private ownership of the means of production... the right to own "capital" and to retain control of the revenue procured in exchange for the commodities you produced with that capital. Being they are capitalists, they also need to employ others in order to grow their ability to profit and therefore influence the larger society to maintain their position politically. They donate to political allies, principally. For this reason, they are not keen on sharing that wealth and giving their employees any more than they absolutely have to. But employees, no shit, want more so they can live more comfortably or even raise their own capital and enter the ruling class. This is a conflict: one wants more money from their work, the other wants to keep the money from that work. The political zone of action in this conflict is where the capitalist will dominate because the resources it takes to influence masses are ALSO privately owned and purchased, which means that the one with the right to regulate the transfer of wealth, aka the already wealthy, have the advantage if not the monopoly on involvement in political matters, regardless of the vernier of democracy you put forth to the society. People voting doesn't mean they have power or authority over those they vote for. You may have elections, but you have no democratic values upheld in the political structure because the politicians are not of the people at all. It follows that the government is ABSOLUTELY a representative arm of the wealthy rather than the people, and the government historically composes policies, wages war, and supports despotic regimes to benefit the wealthy before the people. I never even proposed a utopian alternative; you have inferred it. I can tell you have already pegged me a Communist/Socialist, and you'd be right, but I do not advocate for a utopia. I advocate for an improvement. Your rhetorical maneuver seeks to paint ME black from white by suggesting that I don't realize that alternative systems have their own contradictions and difficulties to overcome; at this point, it's YOU being reductive not only of me, but of anyone who thinks like me. But I do, in fact, know that the real method to attaining Communism is assuredly not anticipated by anyone who does the work towards it to be a clean, idyllic process. Many fast-and-loose alliances were even born between Communist regimes and Capitalist ones in historical moments where it was critical to preserve the socialist project, but "the big picture" was critically kept in mind during those moments. Principles alone don't survive in situations of existential determination, but they certainly must remain after you successfully survive. This applies to Capitalism as well; the New Deal was done to save Capitalism by FDR's own words, not merely to throw a bone to the workers that policy package benefitted. Almost all of that deal has been rolled back and nullified apart from Social Security. Capitalists don't WANT to give things like Social Security to you, but it does so to prevent dissent. Marxists agree that, lacking historical examples of nations achieving full-blown socialism and communism (thanks to the diligent, violent work of capitalist nations to ensure an example cannot come to pass under their watch), that further revolution will be inevitable as humanity continues to develop into a more egalitarian and just society. We may not know precisely what happens in a socialist society not harried by hostile capitalist forces, but we can anticipate contradictions under it just like those under Capitalism. The difference being that, at least under Socialism/Communism, the people who work are the rulers instead of an exclusive club of people disconnected from the conditions and experiences of the working people, so REAL democratic will has the power to negotiate and navigate whatever crisis arises, and we are more likely to truly accept and benefit from that than the alternative. Capitalism, too, is only a step in humanity's history; it is not the end of history itself. In "THE BIGGER PICTURE", it can be acknowledged to have enabled many technologies to exist that broadly improve the lives of many in the capitalist core, but there are also deficits and real harms that exist outside of that core result from and necessitating our elevation in living standard. Not only that, but the happiness metrics suffer even in the capitalist world while we observe much more happiness in socialist/communist nations. Tell me, just because something brought you this far, do you really believe that means you MUST keep doing it moving forward? One makes mistakes in the course of learning, but this is for the sake of NOT making mistakes when it matters, right? One begins life as a child, but then grows into an adult and must behave differently. Our economic/political relations are not different in this way. The assertion that Capitalism doesn't have to be the only way forward is one that I implore you to realize and accept when someone criticizes Capitalism. Capitalism has not been the only economic arrangement humanity has used (before, there was Feudalism, for example), and you must admit that it probably is not the last one. Capitalism improved many things in comparison to Feudalism, but it is either remarkably arrogant or remarkably hopeless to suggest that this is as good as it gets, and alternatives are therefore not worthwhile to discuss because, as far as your "critically thinking" self is concerned, they are only different, not improving on anything in a tangible way. You are wrong about THAT most of all, and I suspect it's because you never really sat down to learn about the alternatives, much less how these objections to Capitalism I propose have been founded.
