If the Philippines doesn’t already capture your heart with its friendly people or it’s pristine beaches, the food is sure to do it. This beautiful country is made up of over 7,000 islands, and Cebu is known for being one of the greatest islands to visit for noteworthy Filipino food. Using ingredients from both the land and the sea, Cebu’s cuisine offers a unique mix of Spanish, Chinese, and indigenous flavors, with it’s crowning specialty being the mouth-watering lechon. Join us as we try Filipino food for the first time ever in Cebu City and share our first impressions of both the food and the country altogether! 🇵🇭

The Philippines is our 23rd country, and as always, we started it off with a thorough food tour!!! 🇵🇭 We surprisingly never got the chance to truly try Filipino food until that day, so all first impressions and opinions were genuine! Have you tried any of these foods, and if so, what’s your favorite? 🤗

You spoke truthfully: Filipinos are among the friendliest and happiest people I have known. I’m glad you sampled sinigang, lechon, adobo, and lumpia; they are some of my favorites. Halo-halo is the best on a hot day, and every place seems to have their own way of making it. I hope you also get to taste pancit, pandesal, and any kind of sticky rice. If you go to Luzon you must visit the Banaue rice terraces. ♥️ Have a great time!

So excited you made it to the Philippines! A lot of Filipino food tends to be either salty or packed with flavor, so a lot of those foods are meant to be eaten with rice to break up that saltiness !

Hi Chad and Claire! Thank you for visiting our country. I hope you had a memorable trip and enjoyed the beach, the people and the food! Just want to share some food tips for future visit again ☺️, Kare-kare tastes better when you put a bit of the shrimp paste to it and with the plain rice, and for the Halo-halo, try to mix them all together ☺️.

Welcome to the Philippines. One thing with our cuisine is that 95% of entreés is meant to be eaten with rice. Now, the quintessential "sauce" with any Pinoy foods, especially when it comes to fried, meats, or seafood, is the vinegar and soy sauce combo. The pink sauce with the lechon kawali is vinegar with onions. Optional items to put into the sauce are garlic and tomatoes. Man, I'm so hungry now. Enjoy

So glad you finally made it to the Philippines. I was screaming at you when you dipped the lechon in both sauces.😂 😂😂 Then Claire eats sinigang with the Ladle just cracked me up. When eating filipino dishes you mostly eat it with rice, especially dishes that have sauces like the Kare-kare, it just taste better. 😊

The purple ingredient in the middle of you Halo-Halo is Ube or Purple Yam. The ice cream on the top is Ube flavored ice cream. You could find a lot of dessert or pastries in the Philippines Ube flavored. You should definitely mix halo-halo, but you can slowly shove done the spoon until ice is a littble crushed and everything is mixed.

I'm Filipino living in SoCal, and I'm really happy to see other than Filipinos enjoy our homegrown dishes. The ones you tried are Pinoy faves. Glad you liked them. They're eaten family style with rice. Rice is a staple on Filipino food. We eat rice for breakfast (should try tocilog, losilog, tapsilog or bansilog---cured pork, Filipino sausage, marinated beef, and milk fish respectively, each served with garlic fried rice and fried egg), lunch and dinner. Next time you have halo-halo, mix it up (that's why it's called 'mix mix') Thanks for this video, I enjoyed watching it. Try pancit bihon, and pancit Malabon ( noodles), for dessert, try sans rival (it's my fave) , seafood-- adobong pusit (squid), last, but not the least, green mango shake. Yummy :)

Welcome to the Philippines, a little heads up for you both, when pronouncing Filipino words, we don’t slang them and we just use the vowels as is, for food every dish goes with rice, we use spoon and fork not knife and fork, try the inexpensive version of the dishes found in places called a “karendirya” or “turo turo” where you just point to a particular dish and they will plate it for you

Don't forget that we Filipinos have special love affairs with rice. Plain rice is eaten with dishes that have very bold flavors because they are meant to be eaten with rice. Such dishes are called “ulam” in Tagalog and viand in English. You don't eat them alone like western dishes, say a meatloaf or a roast turkey.

the thing is filipino food is very different in every regions/cities all across the country every household or restos has their own ways of cooking just one specific dish using different ingredients and process of cooking a dish so expect different variations in terms of taste and process of preparing filipino dishes if your traveling different places of thw country. the lechon that you ate is not the original lechon dish that's just the typical fried version. Filipino Lechon is a whole slow roasted pork on a pit fire. and if your looking for a vegan restos and snack shops or if you're craving for authentic foods from other countries most likely you can only find a lot of options in the country's capital region Metro Manila areas.

The chicken adobo you ate isnt the traditional style. It should have looked more like the humba. Filipino food is a mix of different asian and Spanish dishes. The humba could be a derivative of a Taiwanese dish. Also the sourness of the sinigang I tell people its close to thai tom yum soup but with a different souring agent. Also most dishes are supposed to be paired with rice. Especially to mellow out the saltiness of the food.

Philippine as a nation is around 90% catholic. But. I'm very curious why the sign of the cross is unfamiliar to you guys? I'm in the US as well, and I'm sure you've seen Catholic church where you live.

Ah, it was remarkable for us to visit a country in Asia that had such a large Catholic population! After visiting other Asian countries, like Thailand, Taiwan, or Japan, seeing crosses at every street corner was fascinating! In the States, crosses are everywhere hahaha, so it’s not much of a surprise. But in Asia, it’s definitely a bit more rare (at least in our travels so far.) 😁😁😁

Uh-Oh you massively ignored the garlic rice (aka sinangag NOT sinigang --- the latter is a sour soup with either fish or pork) --- rice is an Asian staple and Filipinos always eat rice with their food --- please don't ignore rice and set it aside as you discover Philippine culinary delights.

I’m sure you meant no harm, but I think describing the lingering influence of colonialism as “cool” is pretty insensitive

I just got back from the Philippines. There is so much pollution, noise, and poverty. Dogs everywhere. I wasn't crazy about their food. Deep fried pork and chicken. It was hard to get grilled food. Sorry, the Philippines is not for me.
