Taiwan seriously has some of the best food in the world! Have you tried Taiwanese food, and if so, what’s your favorite thing to eat? 😋 This is just the start of our series in Taiwan, and in our next video, we’ll be exploring more of the beautiful city of Taipei and the northern mountain towns of Taiwan. Stay tuned! 🇹🇼

I was so excited to see this video pop up! My mom is Taiwanese and I spent 3 years there as an elementary school student. I always love going back and eating all the wonderful food, and now you've got me impatiently waiting for my next trip back. Love how open Chad is to trying all the Taiwanese food - I know our QQ textures can be so foreign to people who aren't used to it, but loved seeing how adventurous he was and that he kept giving the oh-ah-jian a try!

When you are in Taipei, you should definitely eat at the night markets, there is so much tasty food there, and its good fun to spend an evening there. In november, it will be not hot, so maybe if you like baths, go to Beitou (on the outskirts of Taipei), into a hot bath resort hotel, thats a great way to relax in the thermal water (outdoors).

Thank you so much for watching! 💗 Yes- you can definitely get by with just English. English is on most of the street signs, and I would say every other person in a bigger city can speak English to some degree. We went to a couple of restaurants that only had Mandarin menus, but Google Translate got us through just fine! Like, Chad would have been fine if I wasn’t there haha. We love Taiwanese food. I (Brandon) even enjoy stinky tofu! But we had the exact same reaction as Chad, eating oyster omelette for the first time. It has such a sticky, gelatinous, "boogery" texture, that we just couldn't get into it - and we like oysters! Unlike him, we didn't have that revelation afterwards though.😂 But we always give everything AT LEAST a second try, if not a third, to determine if we truly don't like something. We're looking forward to heading back to Taiwan at some point next year, so we'll give it another go then. Taipei is one of our favorite cities, for sure!

It’s no longer called Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall. It’s a construction KMT built to commemorate Chiang and force Taiwanese to worship him. It’s a copycat of Lincoln Memorial Hall. To most Taiwanese, Chiang is a dictator who ordered to killed thousands of Taiwanese when KMT troops first landed in Taiwan. It’s now called Freedom Square. Sadly Chiang is still situated inside of the hall after numerous protests from Pro-Taiwan groups. It’s a huge sarcasm that a dictator/killer is still worshipped by many people in Taiwan.

🇹🇼 = Republic of China = China = It's originally from mainland China. TAIWAN does not have yet a national flag. In 1895, the Qing Dynasty signed the Treaty of Shimonoseki, permanently ceded Taiwan and Penghu to Japan. Since then, Taiwan and Penghu do not belong to China anymore. During the civil war between the Chinese Kuomintang and the Communist Party. The Chinese Kuomintang, the Republic of China and Chinese refugees fled to Taiwan. Chiang Kai-shek only had temporary trusteeship. The Republic of China is a regime in exile.
