Believe me, the practical application of this martial arts is too common in the philippines among its practitioners and the philippine military. The reason there is no proper competition of this martial arts in the mainstream like karate, taekwondo etc is because of its killer nature. Filipino martial arts is not for show or demonstration, it is mainly to kill the opponent. That's what happened to magellan when he fought the old Filipino warriors during spanish occupation hundreds years ago. Magellan was turned into a kill test .
@garycurrie2696 Жыл бұрын
@@EV-qo1kj No that's not how it works. Knife defense is nonesense I'm no stranger to Kali but it's not practical as is anything against a knife. It's better than no training but again you don't block knifes.

@@garycurrie2696 Judging from your comment you're probably a bigger stranger than you're willing to accept. The first person that responded was trying to be polite. If you think this wouldn't work in reality than that works for us. 40 years in this and my instructors were military vets who were known for sending fools to hell. I followed in their footsteps RLTW and even I have been dragged before judges in my lifetime. Again I actually like that there's fools who think this wouldn't work. So by all means carry on

Most of FMA/Kali strikes would be deemed illegal in MMA. This is also true to FMA empty hands (no weapon) art which mostly targets the neck, eyes, groin, and etc. which is an instant DQ in any combat sports. While you can fashion your FMA techniques where it can be used in MMA, you'd rather go practice other arts.

Here's the reality of a knife at that angle. Would the above technique actually work? kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZ_OZaara62Gfs0
@hoinguyen-lj1jt4 ай бұрын
the real answer is very rarely. by rare, I mean almost impossible. you'd have to be super lucky like the moment Trump turned his head when the bullet was flying towards his head. you would somehow have to be lucky enough to get the perfect hand placements to catch and have complete control over his arm the first time he brings the knife down. you see how the instructor's neck is in attack range of the knife? you miss the catch and it's over, just like that. realistically, you'd have to factor in the fact that a downward strike has way more force than the action of pushing upwards to block. you might be lucky enough to survive with a gash on your forearm. more than likely, you'd miss the catch. the odds aren't in your favor. a knife assailant always advances towards you when he attacks. there's no "triangle" and trapping. an assailant isn't going to stab downward once and let you trap his hand with perfect coordination. the knife repeatedly goes down and up while he moves forward and ruin your triangle. you see how the instructor's hands move faster than the assailant in the counter attack? in reality, it's the opposite with the assailant's knife hand moving faster than the victim. these techniques don't work. you'd wish that you didn't try to imitate this choreography. it's okay for drills and exercises, and better than nothing. I'd maybe try it only if somehow I had no other options, like running away. at the end of the day, these people act like they know what they're doing to make money. in reality, one tap and it's over.

ROFL. Every real fighter knows, the difference between amateurs and real fighters is defense. Look at Vargas video on professional fighters versus action stars. So basically, this guy is saying if you want to be an action star, learn from me. You want to survive and win a real fight, look at the other guys. What a disgrace to this art of fighting. DEFENSE WINS championships in all types of contest. Offense is only for show.

illegal to carry sticks around for self defense, don't ever think you are fast enough to replicate this instructor, carry pepper spray totally legal, next time you're in trouble, call this instructor to protect you
@dontuspowerus1093 Жыл бұрын
The sticks are just optional. And are there only for practice. Real fights, anything you get your hands on. This fighting style is developed in the spanish colonial era and is so effective that Filipino's were banned to carry blades by the Spaniards. Who has armor and Guns. Yes, as you guessed it, the stick is adapted as a stand-in for blades. You don't need a weapon because you, the person, is the one controlling your own actions. Matter of fact, you are a more dangerous opponent unarmed up close. Hold the wrist, you control the hand, hold the elbow, you control the arm, Punch the Armpit and the entire arm will be disabled. A guy who doesn't know how to handle a sword is a danger to himself. A guy who does is a danger to everyone around him. And Kali is applicable to almost any hand-held melee weaponry. Almost every street fight and hostage situations are within your range.unless we're talking way beyond that, then that would invalidate any self defense arts, including pepper sprays. (Unless you also have an uno reverse card Gun.)

I was trained as a hockey goalie since the age of 3, did fencing since I am a kid, and played the drums since I am 7. I am 32 and been practicing kali for 7 years. Whenever you want, I can show you how it all works, the principles, concepts and overall flow. People have been fighting with bladed weapons for millenias. Whole empires and civilizations have been made and destroyed on these tactics and technics, whether they come from Hema, FMA or traditional martial arts from anywhere. It is simply basic human movement and patterns. Bladed arts are infenitely more complex than empty handed arts, but implying there are no skill development and orders of magnitude of skills to them it is pretty dumb.
