Singing exercises in water is actually common here in the Philippines, because it helps for breathing.

If you ever get to interview Regine Velasquez you should ask her how her father trained her to sing when she was little. I think he trained her to sing neck deep in a river or sea too I think. The last video you watched is located in Boracay. It's one of the top and famous beaches in the Philippines. You definitely should put that in your itenerary when you visit the Philippines.

Regine was trained as a child to sing while immersed chest deep underwater. That’s the reason why her lung power is out of this world. Her dad believed that what “Rocky” did, boxing underwater to strengthen his muscles would also be applicable in strengthening the vocal core..

Yeah most of us filipinos knew about that vocal exercise that Regine was trained by his dad as such.
@judithtorres4409
@judithtorres4409 2 жыл бұрын
It’s a training technique made famous by Regine’s dad. I don’t think it’s about lifting the diaphragm while in the water, but building strength and stamina. The water exerts pressure on the torso and the rest of the body-like training to walk or run with weights around your ankles. Then, when you remove the pressure or the weights, you feel so light and the physical exertion, effortless. 😇

Hi Waleska and Efra, here's a little trivia for you to ponder: "Here in the Philippines, if you want to sing a song in a karaoke or videoke machine, you need to put a 5 peso coin to the machine for each song (the price is the same eversince) no matter if you sing it well or you mess with it (unless the machine is rented by someone generous enough and made it free for everyone). Imagine how many 5 peso coins you need to spend to be a good singer." Lol. And if you are really looking for good "un-discovered" singers in the Philippines, here are few places where you will find them: 1. Resto-Bars (especially those with karaoke) 2. Local Singing Contests (this is common on barrios celebrating fiesta) 3. Birthdays, Weddings, Baptism, Reunions, Vigils and all gatherings, karaoke/videoke machine will surely be there.

In my humble opinion, singing is engrained in the Filipino culture and lifestyle. For most Pinoy, the cheapest and the best way to harmlessly vent, show and share their emotions is through singing. You ask why do they pick the harder (path) songs to sing. Simply because they know they can. Furthermore, there is no fun and challenge in learning uncomplicated and easy songs. The melody, lyrics, high notes, and extended belting in songs are what they tend to gravitate to. They like the challenge of learning these kinds of songs while they try to emulate the style and techniques of their idols. In the meantime, they try to improve their own style and techniques. The best reward for them is knowing they can do it and had fun doing so. It's the love, support, and encouragement of people around them (they say it takes a village to raise a child, in the PH this is true in singing as well) that helps them in building the self-confidence needed. Also, consider the fact that most of them have highly developed auditory sense and mimicking skills which makes it easier for them to sing in such a fashion.

To understand why it is common for Filipino children to learn big songs so early, other than having Karaoke as a pass time, it is that our National Anthem "Lupang Hinirang" is freaking insane which students become accustomed to singing everyday in class. USA does not require singing their anthem in a particular way or key, however, the Philippine anthem was decreed to be sung in public in the original Julian Felipe arrangement which goes up all the way to F5. Here's Morissette singing the anthem kzbin.info/www/bejne/joioan-BgqxkpJY and note how much she has to work to get those last two verses out. It's mental that it was decreed to be sung that way when Julian Felipe wrote the music as a piano piece and not a song. Everyone just sort of lived with it

When i was 6 years old all of my 5 sisters always sing in videoke and they always want me to sing a female song with high notes 😂 .. its a typical culture in filipinos that they want their kids or lil brother and sister to sing high notes early . Even if u dont want to they will say "go sing this u can do it try try" then later on you will enjoy it . 😁

I can't speak for the rest of PH (since I'm from one of the many microcultures here and also indigenous), but in my family, we sing a lot together, rarely on our own. There's a special kind of bond that forms with the people you sing with. Ever since we were kids, my cousins and I would sing together on our grandparents backyard whenever we get together. We do this because we don't see each other very often and it was a way to bridge gaps with age (24 cousins over the span of 15 years) and gender (since the girls wanted to play house and the boys wanted to play basketball 🤣). Our parents encouraged it too, one of our uncle's would provide the mic and guitar. When most of us got to college, singing together was our way to reconnect. And every holidays where we can come home from the city, it is what we do. Even the night of my sister's wedding, when all the guests are gone, we just gathered together with a guitar and sing songs that came to mind and it felt more intimate than the celebration we just had with the whole clan (also an initiation for the new husband 😂). I'm pretty sure it's kind of similar to some (if not most) Filipino families to have a special thing when it comes to music. And I think that is where the Love for singing and music comes from. Music for us is like a warm blanket or fire from a hearth. Music for us is home.

The unknown but primary talent of Filipinos is their ability to listen well to accents, diction, harmonies, and pronunciations. Then they practice to mimic various sounds or songs as close to the original version as possible. Meaning they can listen to themselves as they're singing to automatically correct the sounds they are producing to match their memory of the song they are trying to reproduce. Even going back hundreds of years, Filipinos have been good at recreating different kinds of music from various cultures. Also, Filipinos living in another culture for several months eventually get many aspects of the local accent.

It's a free-for-all 😍 and you guys can freely explore from the same content creator so yeah 🔥 Also, yeah, our parents tend to display our medals, trophies, and certificates. It's a bragging rights especially given that a lot of their generation didn't get to finish school. 🎖️🏅🏆

I think the answer to the question of many people if what did we drink to have such beautiful and powerful voices- maybe some would answer, its the beer haha. And for the kids - its the "AM" charr haha

Singing in the Philippines is actually a kind of relief...Because you know, our daily lives are so stressful, full of struggles...Calamities are just coming in and out. After one recovered another follows, that is why instead we cried murmor or complain, we just shouted it, to let it out. Thus most of our songs were in a higher range,because instead we climbed into the mountain to shout, we did it through singing. And after that we felt relieved, vigorous and energitic again. And it seems we found new hope to face another day. So it's already normal for us to see someone sing there with their hearts out, shouting and laughing, we understand they are problematic and they only want to feel relieved 😁

Singing while chest-deep in cold pool, river or even drum of water, actually was a old ancient "thing" with singers. As cold water shrinks your abdominal muscles, buoyancy pushes more air out of your body making your diaphragm do all the work, unsupported by the other muscles around it. Breathing becomes shallow and requires more effort. The theory is that training the diaphragm that way while young should eventually endow the singer better breath support for longer and more powerful belts. Regine Velasquez was trained that way when she was young

The impact of singing in water is ..... Regine Velasquez-Alcasid. It is a very well-known fact in the Philippines that Regine Velasquez as a young girl was trained by her father by submerging her body neck-deep in water in a drum and singing for hours on end. It is unconfirmed if this training technique works. Its almost like an urban legend but yeah, filipinos sometimes go to the beach to sing neck-deep in water because of Regine.

Filipinos want to test and challenge themselves if they can copy a favorite singer belting out a hard or difficult song. Then they practice and record their practice sessions and then practice variations or innovations that they can make to each live performance. The good singers post their most impressive songs as audition pieces that might get the attention of somebody who might want to hire them as a lounge singer or band member somewhere.
