Things that we usually do before a boodle fight is pray and wash our hands, it is proper etiquette to separate your own serving from others so everyone can eat, also in kamayan we must remember not to use the same hand for eating when touching other food unless you're eating it.

I think Boodle Fight is not all about the delicious foods and eating with bare hands but it is also about the closeness with your friends and family, eating with happiness and enjoying life together. THERE'S NO SUCH A SAD BOODLE FIGHT, ALWAYS A HAPPY ONE FEAST.

Before trying to get into a boodle fight, learn to eat with your hands first. That's when you will enjoy this special event. This is not just eating; it's all about the camaraderie and brotherhood. This is what we value. For example, in the military, where it originated, soldiers in different ranks eat at the same table at the same time. They forgot their ranks and status in life just to showcase their brotherhood. It applies to all boodle fights. Even the president will eat and participate in a boodle fight if he or she is invited by a local community. Everyone will eat with their hands because in that group there might be people who came from the poorest, so to show that they are welcome, everyone will eat the same way. That's the essence of this eating event. And now it has become a cliché that even rich people do it, even if there is no one poor in their group, because of the vibes and the unique experience that comes with it.

You can have boodle fight in many ways, anytime of the day. Imagination is your limit, perfect for get togethers or bonding moments. Imagine doing that with filipino style breakfast, yum!

boodle fight way of eating actually originated from the Philippine military that is the way they eat a big pile of food are served in the middle of a really long table in a mess hall where every hungry soldier eats with their hands symbolizing of camaraderie, brotherhood and equality in the military. and eventually crossed to every home since the practice definitely brings people closer.

Here in the states, we sometimes say chicken tastes better when you eat it with your hands. Eating with your hands is probably a universal thing that humans still love doing.

Unspoken/unwritten rule: know which hand do you use when using the toilet.... when eating kamayan... pinoys will use their dominant hand to eat... the other hand to hold drinks Or sometimes hold food also but as much as possible avoid getting it dirty. You wouldnt want to hold a messy sticky glass with rice and food. Of course we wash our hands first so use any hands you want but for peace of mind know which hand to use for eating and toilet... ask any pinoy check if im right... Also you usually create an eating space in front of you... avoid contaminating those on your sides... keep your area clean... do not contaminate other food at the center unless you are picking it up to eat it...

"BOODLE" comes from the english word Kaboodle (as in the whole mix of everything) Philippine Army have a lot of english expressions/jargons like bonkie (bunk mates), gademmit (godammit), shabby, etc. The "FIGHT" in Boodle Fight comes from the fact that it's soldiers eating side by side their upper class men, and since the seniors always get the upper hand and more benefits, during boodle fights, lower ranking soldiers can get to the meats first (ulam) and hide it under mounds of rice so their seniors can be left to just eating veggies and rice! That's where the concept of "fight" comes from. ts a fun way to encourage camaraderie among our troops. ♥️

Memory of my Boodle Fight: After school, we decided to play basketball in the basketball court near our friend's house. Everyone was hungry and tired but there's no food. We decided to collect money on each of us to buy rice then we cook it in our friend's house. Then each of us bought different ulam (dishes) in the carenderia (food store). There's banana tree everywhere so we cut some banana leaf and put it in the table after washing it. We put our cooked rice in the center and circled it with the ulams we bought. That's the best boodle fight and bonding I have! The food taste so much better in a boodle fight setting together with your friends. I treasured that moment till these days.

Boodle fight originate in the Philippine army. It is a way to disregard rank among the soldiers when eating, to promote brotherhood and camaraderie. It also signifies a filipino family tradition of eating together in one table.

By the way, you can have a boodle fight in restaurants that offer it. Jollibee is a Filipino fast-food chain & boodle fight style of eating is not in the menu. Those guys who came in w/ their own banana leaves & rice cooker must've done it as a challenge or something.

This is just a guess, I didn't search for this. I think, there is a possibility that Filipino soldiers during Yultong war has something to do why some of the Korean elders knows or uses their hands while eating or feeding others, like those in Kdramas.
