I used kwik wood for mainly corner or veneer repairs. It is great. Bondo for larger flat repairs, durhams wood putty for corners and carved shapes or filling designs on surfaces. Wood putty for small dings etc. Famowood for all of the above. Each has its purpose, but i use more kwikwood !

@jeannel10653 жыл бұрын
There is JB Weld Kwikwood and Quikwood. They are both epoxy putty and mix the same way. I’ve only used the Kwikwood to fill 12 dowel holes. I think I mixed too long because it began to dry and harden before I finished. I rolled a coil a bit smaller than hole and push it in the hole, broke it off about 1/4 inch high and and use a putty knife to spread the excess flat and fill the hole completely. I agree with your assessment.

I have a late 1990s, early 2000s bedroom set that has those recessed drawer pulls and I don't like them at all. I'd like to fill them in and install hardware pulls. After that, I'll paint the pieces. Do you think I could do large holes like that with Kwickwood or Bondo??? I don't know what to do.
@bigdw9545 Жыл бұрын
Very good video. As a painter, I would not finish off a repair with wood filler. Kwikwood is a great filler to fill the hole. I would recommend Bondo Glazing and Spot Putty (that exact product) as a finish filler. It seems like it spreads thinner than paint. You can even fill very shallow places where a layer of paint chipped off a cabinet. Give it a try. You’ll probably have to go to an auto parts store for it. It’s premixed in a tube, and it’s really easy to apply.
@ARayofSunlight Жыл бұрын
Hey! I actually tried that glazing and spot putty before and I didn't feel like it did much. Maybe I used it wrong. I bet I still have it in a drawer somewhere haha Maybe I'll try it again.
@bigdw9545 Жыл бұрын
@@ARayofSunlight I just used it on a very large kitchen cabinet repainting project. I was spraying the paint, so it was very important to get a perfect filling of the shallow chips, dents, and places where a previous layer of paint peeled and was painted over. It works beautifully for me…the best product I’ve found. Let it dry completely before sanding, and be sure to sand with a solid block. Then prime the repair, and you’re good to go.

What if you’re wanting to stain instead of painting wood furniture. Will this work for staining too?
@ARayofSunlight19 күн бұрын
Yes, you can stain. But, it's a lot trickier to make repairs on furniture and then have them match the color of the rest of the stain on your furniture, as well as have them absorb the same way. It's a lot easier to paint over it and hide those imperfections. We do have a blog on staining wood filler though that you might want to check out. I tried to use KwikWood this summer on a table top and it did not mix well at all. It all just crumbled and I had to throw the whole tube away. Do you have tips on storage? I kept it in my garage, but it still had some extreme temp changes since I live in Minnesota. The package doesn’t say anything about temperatures affecting it, but it could. Really want to try it again!
@ARayofSunlight3 жыл бұрын
Oh no!! So I usually store mine inside my house, I make sure the plastic is completely covering it and the little end sticky things are on. And of course I keep it in its tube. I wonder if you just had a bad batch? I did have a problem one time with a brand new one. It was harder to mix it and dried almost instantly once I was done mixing it. I threw it away. I’m sure I could have taken it back though. I think it was just a bad tube. I bet I’ve bought at least 20 of these things of kwikwood, and that’s the only one I ever had issues with. Sometimes it’s a little bit harder to mix than normal, but I mix a teeny tiny bit of water with it and it softens up for a few minutes so I can work with it a little bit easier. I hope that helps! It’s really such an amazing product.

Hello! I made a rookie mistake and finished my piece before purchasing hardware. The old hardware had an insert from the front, creating a larger hole for hardware. (Similar to the vintage hardware you showed in the beginning of the video) I can barely see the hole since the hardware covered most of it, but I can see the corner just the slightest. How would you work with an already finished product? Thanks!
@ARayofSunlight2 жыл бұрын
That’s an easy fix! You can fill the holes in, don’t overfill so you don’t have to sand it down. Then paint the filler. You can drill new holes into the kwikwood for your hardware. And since the new hardware covers most of the hole, you won’t notice the small touch up.

try other brands of body filler, for example at oreillly's parts store you can get evercoat pro grade premium filler, it's smoother, it's worth a shot. I think once you find one that doesn't shrink much you will like it. but again read the directions, there is very little hardener used for body filler, much less than what you're thinking, for putty the size of a AA battery you're using like less than a pea size droplet, a very tiny amount, and I mix the hardener before squeezing it out
