That's so cool that you bought a Caboose. I live up in SM with the SMV, and two or three of their cabooses are surviving, but none are for sale unfortunately. I'll take one of those 70-tonners, though.

the country transit authority wanted to end their lease of the right of way early and give them the boot . they won in court. the Fillmore and western will now operate until their lease is up which is around 2020 I believe

i live near the Santa Paula station and always see the train, sometime i would go to the lose caboose and see the different cabooses, but now Fillmore and Western has to sell some of their rolling stock and the even sold one of their steam train, which made me sad to find that out.

+santapaulateen3501 // We used to live in Camarillo and I sometimes worked in the Filmore - Santa Paula area. Always a pleasure to go there. Anyway I thought the F&W was getting equipment together for tourist and dinner steam trains. Have I got that right? (I've been gone from Ventura County for some time now.) It's another subject, but I was there right after the Northridge quake and remember landslides and other quake damage, even on the back road to Moorpark.

The transit authority has the right idea! Shut them down. Trucks are far more flexible a delivery system! Good bye old junk!
@Cockroach20088 жыл бұрын
+Union Pacific Fan What you may think of me is none of my concern or interest. The railroad remains an important piece of our complete transportation system. The future is in trucks which don't require such an expensive infrastructure financial outlay. Trucks make better economic sense in so many more cases than the cost of a railroad! Railroads do well for the long haul, but for the short haul, the truck has got the railroad beat, hands down. Ships even do better! The transit authority has it correct for this little puny tiny tot railroad! Shut it down forever, pull out the tracks, sell of the right of way! Good by railroad forever!
@UnionPacificFan8 жыл бұрын
This is a tourist RR u idiot! It is made to heal people for nostalgia.
@Cockroach20088 жыл бұрын
+Union Pacific Fan That doesn't matter to me! If it is not making it's not financially solvent & is in a state of economic failure! Time to get rid of it & repurpose the land it occupies. See, I am not an idiot! I am COCKROACH! Much more power to the Ventura County Transit Authority! Shut this relic down & tear it apart!
@Cockroach20088 жыл бұрын
+Wheelz “four-dimensional” Pitch A single move of that little amount material, I know the industry would use trucks. However, more to your point, if this were a continuous movement of that amount of that volume of that type of material, I would use a railroad. Now, I have pandered to what you want to hear, but now the locomotion involved would certainly not be steam locomotives! That type of equipment is long past it's prime & is now junk! It is time to dispose of every one of them! And what better way than to have the financially desperate people take them apart in any method possible & sell those parts on the black market for lucrative sums of CASH! So trucks is what the industry would use for a one time movement. Even for as many as 30~35 movements Any more than that, a railroad should be probably be considered. But the steam locomotive will never be used! All the steam locomotives should be junked, cut apart & melted down! The materials used for new products.
@Cockroach20088 жыл бұрын
+Wheelz “four-dimensional” Pitch No complaints from me. Just a matter of making my own comment! A quite good & admirable comment too, I would say! Many people seem to like it!
