That is a rhododendron. Very common around here. They grow better over on the coast around Seattle. The shrubs in front by the steps are junipers and the taller shrubs on either side are arborvitae.

as someone who lives out in the country "not middle of nowhere just not under the control of a municipality" throwing your clippings back on the lawn is a great way to save money on fertilizer and provides a good result when done properly

You have a place set for everything you use..lawn mowers, tools, edgers, weed eaters...NOW.. Fix you a spot for a large cooler, that when its needed, you have it. Research the brands, to find one that would hold up under 6 to 8 hrs of heat. A lot of reaching on the bush trimming as well. That man knew what a great job he was receiving and greatly appreciated it. We old schoolers believe in a laborer entitled to his wages and it's sometimes difficult to accept gifts.
