Another Done vs Perfect video, i sense a theme here lol
I haven't done a video for a few weeks as this strongman training has taken it toll on me and i have had to take a week off training. Hopefully i can get back out and shoot some film this weekend.
I did want to go to Ikea to pick up a display shelf for my cameras, so while getting some fresh air I managed to get to a few charity shops to look for cameras. I don't know what anyone else thinks, but they are getting thin on the ground in the charity shops at the moment. In 3 towns i only found a Fujica sir and a few point & shoots.
Thankfully i have people that tell me about cameras and actually pick things up for me, in the past few weeks both my friend Ian and Dave have come to the gym armed with cameras which i am really thankful for.
I am going to go through my boxes of camera and do some giveaways on my channel as i want to get more people shooting film and there is no point these things just living in a box.
First giveaway is a Polaroid P and Polaroid Originals film, just comment below if you are interested and i will pick someone and mail it to you.

Much better luck than we ever have when going to thrift stores haha! Pretty interesting to see how as more people get into film, the prices for the 'popular' cameras go up, even though there are many just as good alternatives to them for much cheaper

Hi Richard, the Kodak Brownie 127 was my very first camera. I was 8 years old in 1955 and it was a birthday gift from photography mad Uncle who wanted to encourage me into the hobby! Well it worked and here I am 63 years later and still as mad about photography as he was. Sadly the Brownie did not have a long life and after getting many films with great images developed, came a sad day when to my horror the latest film showed that every photo was wildly out of focus! The camera shop owner asked to see the camera and quickly spotted that the glass lens had dropped out, and that was that I’m sorry to say. After that I made use of two Zeiss folding cameras my Dad had brought back from the Western Desert during the Second World War. After that I saved up and bought my first rangefinder a Canon Canonet QL 19, which was a great camera. Happy days, good luck with your finds Richard you are fortunate to have such good friends.

Hey David, i hope you are well? Wow thank you so much for sharing the story, i really love to hear and learn more about the history surrounding photography and peoples journey. If you would like the Brownie 127 then it would be my pleasure to let you have it :) Also a while ago you mentioned being interested in a Pentax ME Super, i still have 4 if you still want one? I have an original Canon Canonet, but i haven't shot that yet, my friend Noah did in one of our challenges though so at least i know it works lol. Yes i feel so blessed to have such good friends :)

I'm really enjoying your vlogs Richard, I have given a stack of cameras, all inexpensive box types, to a friend who has a private museum in Cornwall. Coronet, of Birmingham, were prolific camera manufacturers and I still have a folding one that belonged to my mother. be interesting to see how it performs.

Not a bad haul actually...I'm familiar with all of them, theres some nice gear there! I think I'd keep them all ...that Olympus AF1 super is weatherproof too. That Optima viewfinder is incredible - you'll enjoy shooting with that.

We did have an instant camera when I was a kid. I did lose it in a science museum. It was a Polaroid. Not like the one in the video but a smaller and a black model. I'm more into the instant models. Probably a "fetish" I guess.

I'm glad to see you being a bit more perky in this video! I hope the friendships at the gym and your training continue to lift your spirits, Richard, I know a while ago you posted about struggling with a few things but you seem generally happier nowadays :) I think you are right about those EOS cameras though - there's no sane reason anybody would have that many bodies as far as I'm aware! I'd be interested in the Polaroid too (may as well give it a shot) as I haven't had an opportunity to play with instant photography before. Definitely think you're right about the charity shops too - here in Bristol there were a couple of months last year where there seemed to be a steady stream of cameras (although they were almost always overpriced), and now there is only a really damaged Holga for £20 that I can find. It's a shame that so many are being flipped, but as long as some are going to people wanting to shoot film then that's alright I guess Keep up the good work :)

Hey Richard, I'm going the opposite way. After years of collection of some beautiful and expensive film gear, all brands and makes, I decided to sell it all, or mostly all. All the gear sits in my cupboard looking really nice, but it hardly ever gets used as much as it should. I can't warrant at least £7K worth of film cameras sitting in a cupboard. So I listed them and put them on eBay. They sold like hot cakes, and I almost doubled my money, because all my gear was in excellent condition and working. I've only kept 2 medium format cameras, and about 5 Nikons, that's it. I'm going to put in my order for my D850 and D750, to replace the D800 and D600 that I also sold. I feel so much better now. The worst feeling was guilt, just knowing all that quality gear is sitting there and not being used. I'm nearly 53, so I grew up shooting film cameras. I still love film, but with work, household stuff and shitty weather we get, I just don't get as much time as I wish I could. Carry on with the videos and Vlogs, they're really enjoyable.

Jas wow, would love to have seen them :) I am old enough that film was the only option for shooting, but even though my dad was an amateur photographer, it never spoke to me. I was too busy racing motocross and Apple Mac's had my attention when they came on the scene lol. What medium format and Nikons do you own now? It's mad i am a Canon guy, from when i got my first point & shoot, but just lately i have a love for Nikon SLRs. I would love to own a FM3a and a F5. I do want to part with a few of my film cameras, but struggling to work out value. I have a mint Rolleiflex 3.5f which i don't get on with an so would like to sell to fund a Hasselblad lol That D850 seems like a awesome camera, i would love to upgrade my Canon 6D, but Canon's latest offering leave me wanting more and so not bothering until they bring something better to the table. If i didn't have all this Canon L glass i would jump to the D850. Thank you for the continued support, very much appreciated :)

Richard Rollinson - My Analog Life I’ve got a Bronica zensa S2 and a Kiev 60 TTL for my medium format. F3 HP, FA, FM2N, F5, & F100 for my 35mm SLR with about 7/8 Ais lenses and an L35 AD point and shoot. The F5 and the F100 can use the old legacy glass as well as the G series glass I’ve got. Then, I’ve still got an Olympus SP 35, Olympus OM4Ti, Yashica GSN, Canon Elan 7, Minolta 505si Super and a few others. As you can see, still way too much gear. I’m going to be selling half of the above mentioned gear as well. Eventually, I just want a Mamiya 7ii as my medium format, keep my Nikon SLR’s and obviously my digital which I have the D750, D850(on order), and an xpro2. Any sane person will still say that “too much gear”, but if they saw my collection before, they’d say I was suffering from GAS. I’ve realised it’s not about how many different cameras and lenses you have, but how much you can go out and shoot to make a worthwhile picture. Every time I sell a camera that was in my collection but not longer want, I feel like a burden has been lifted off me. I think I’ve got over, or I am rapidly getting over GAS. I’m planning to go to Cirencester this Friday and see if I can shoot a few rolls. The weather is supposed to be nice on Friday with good light. Let’s see.

I'm in the same position as you at the moment, I'm going to be refurbing the 3rd bedroom to display all (well mosy of) my cameras and sell the rest (to probably buy one camera as a present to myself). Its going to be completely stripped out and start from scratch with bookcase, desk and wardrobe, the question is how many will I actually get rid of? Ive been off work for weeks so ebay bargain watching most days. keep up the good vlogs theyre great simple and informative

Nice Haul Richard. I was recently gifted a Fujica STX-1 with 50mm, 28mm and 80-200mm lenses myself and its a nice little camera to use. I regularly use an EOS 500 which is also great, but I've heard the EOS 1000 series are better so if you ever find one jump on it LOL *wink*. You can get 127 film for the Brownie but its bloody expensive, (I often just use 35mm in mine) and you are going to love the results from the coronet, the huge neg size is great. Never seen one of those Agfa's so would love to see a video of you using it and the results.
@RICHARDROLLINSONDESIGNPHOTOGRA

haha yeah next time i am out i will keep an eye out for the EOS 1000, seems such a rare beast lol. Cool about the STX, i had never seen or come across one before, well to be fair i am not familiar with the Fuji line of cameras at all, this is the first one i now own :) I am not sure i will shoot the 127, i have so many other cameras to shoot and test first and it seem quite and awkward format, but yes i am looking forward to shooting with the Coronet. I have a friend who i have been talking about doing another film challenge with and he shoots a box camera so might be a video in there somewhere lol. Oh yes the Agfa is one i am excited to shoot for some crazy reason, i also have the Optima Sensor 335 also. Would also be good to run an Agfa Vista in them to keep it all Agfa lol

Now I know why there’s a world shortage of Canon EOS 1000F..... Richard owns the entire production run lol. Great video and it’s the same here in Calgary decent film cameras are becoming harder to find but on a positive note it means more and more people are shooting film again

Calgary how cool, I have never been, but it looks beautiful :) haha yeah i had never seen the camera before and now i think i own 7 of them. As you say it is great that more people are shooting and buying film, but yes makes it harder to find good cameras and wish i had bought some ones i want sooner when the prices weren't so crazy. The Nikon f5 has now doubled in price in the last 6 months :(

One of my favourite things to do is wander through the second hand shops in Brighton picking up film cameras. do you always buy ones that have been tested or take the risk they work?
@RICHARDROLLINSONDESIGNPHOTOGRA
@RICHARDROLLINSONDESIGNPHOTOGRA 6 жыл бұрын
It is such a cool thing, wandering and scouting the charity and antique shops for cameras and photographic memorabilia :) I try to check if they work, well to my limited ability, some i just take a risk on if they are not a lot of money. Others it depends on if i really thing they are worth it or it is something i would like to add to my collection. I recently bought an Olympus 35RD which has the common sticky shutter blade problem, i picked it up because it is in fantastic condition and not that i am selling it, but it is worth getting it repaired. Have you picked anything nice up recently? Nice to see you doing more videos and getting some great results too :)

Yeah i got into film photography around 2 years ago now and it has taken over my life, i am obsessed with cameras, different films, different old techniques of analog photography. So a lot of the cameras go into my collection and also will be tested and reviewed for this channel/my own curiosity lol Oh cool, will check the link out :) and thanks again, much appreciated

I am not a film shooter from before and only came to it a few years ago now. It has it's ups and downs and as much as people say, digital is far easier to learn on. Film photography has become a passion now, after seeing images online that turned out to be film and also getting fed up of trying to replicate it in Photoshop... hours and hours spent. Even though this channel is mainly about my journey and discovery in the film world i am and will be a hybrid shooter, sometimes the job calls for it. But for my personal work 85% is shot on film. Why do you say you probably never will?
