I was about to say "Awesome" and say "rear projection television" too. His exploring partner of the evening was correct. Their dad had one. I remember them in bars and clubs into the early 2000s. Usually sports, but after hours at the steak and sushi restaurant, everyone brought their game consoles. 2001-03.

Yes, It's a rear projection, but it uses a DLP chip, color wheel, light engine instead of the red/green/blue projectors. These were shallower, lighter, and had a better picture. Still have a 65" Mitsubishi version. Very good TV.
