After 4 years, I have finally made the switch from Sony E-Mount. For the past month, I have started using a Fujifilm GFX-50R and Fujifilm X-T4 as my main cameras. Bottom line up front, they are AMAZING.

How have things been after six months? About to get this camera I already was leaning towards it but this video was the best and most genuine I have found. Also if you have a website I could check out some of the photos you have taken with it that would be rad as well. Thanks Buddy

hey Kevin, thanks for that! After 6 months I can say: 1) it's still my daily driver for almost all of my commercial work. if you're a landscape or studio photographer it's pretty much all you can ask for at this price point. glass is expensive but it's sharp. Also looking at adapted glass soon. 2) the AF isn't fast but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. I shoot film way more than I shoot digital, and none of my cameras have AF. It isn't imperative for me to always be fast (have my X-T4 for that if I need it). 3) Fuji's colors are by far my favorite system I have ever owned. It's accurate without being boring. That's the best way I can describe it. Hope this helps you out! and all of my work can be either found on my instagram in the description or www.freshmediaco.com for higher res images

GFX replaced my GA645. Portra 400 on 120 shot in 645 format was at $0.80 a click, plus $18.95 to process the roll and have the negatives mailed back to me... at $1.65 per photo, that's *almost twice the price of shooting Instax* and no prints to show for it. Yeah I went digital and haven't looked back. I miss film but not at those prices. I was looking at $1500 in costs per year. My GFX at $1500 already paid for itself.

Dave, I just did basically the same thing at Precision Camera. I traded in all my Sony gear (A7RVI, 6 lenses) for the Fujifilm GFX50R and GF110 lens...went all in. I use to shoot with a Mamiya 6MF in the film days and that camera was my all time favorite camera. I went with the GFX50R for its resemblance to the Mamiya 6. You do great work, glad I found your site. Thanks.

Haha that is so funny, almost exact. This camera is an amazing tool. I’ve had a lot of fun with it so far. Need to get to shooting some square format like the Mamiya 6. Thatd be fun! Thanks for the kind words and appreciate it!

I guess every photographer has different priorities. Just yesterday I was watching another video where a commercial photographer was switching from Fuji GFX50R to the Sony alpha 7Riii because, even though he loved the colors, the AF in the Fuji could not stand up to the Sony’s. My point being that I guess the camera you go with depends on your need

100%. I definitely do not think this camera is for everyone. If anything it is an extremely small niche. For me in the studio it does everything I need at a high level, so I truly am blessed to have different cameras for different needs.

And it's a very big reason why I left Nikon I could not get the results I was wanting in my landscape photography from the Nikon camera I had the Nikon glass was fantastic and the photos were superb but it was the colour science of Nikon. I moved over to Fujifilm and I have not regretted it and I'm selling more work now than I ever have

I can't recommend it enough if you're getting into digital medium format. Since you've rented you know, but to others looking to do the same, it's worth it.

Funny, I'm in a similar situation. I work at a film lab and shoot mamiya rb67 proS. I also have a full Sony kit and Fuji x100f. I am so so so close to buying a GFX 50s to sort of make the most of everything, saving some more money on film and enjoying my digital photos a bit more.

A lot of people in the same boat! I’ll tell you what though. Every shoot makes the decision worth it in my opinion. The only thing I will say is you will slow down with shooting this camera, but it’s expected. I knew that coming into this when I left the a7riii. The AF between the two cameras is not even in the same universe. But as a primary film shooter, I like things slowed down especially in studio. The 50r is one of the best purchases I’ve made as a photographer. Hope this helps!

Just one thing....you can actually get shallower depth of field with full frame. The 110mm f 2 lens is equivalent to 88mm f1.6. So, an 85mm 1.4 would be a tiny bit shallower and a 85mm f1.2 would get even shallower still (Canon). But yeah, all in all the GFX system has more room to grow and they now have those 100MP sensors which are amazing.
@davecapote
@davecapote 3 жыл бұрын
you are absolutely right! I completely understand the conversions from medium format to 35mm but it's the "Medium Format Look" I was trying to explain. The separation is just visually different, at least in my eyes. Especially stopped down to f/2. Thanks for the comment

Looking forward to following you. Glad I moved to Fuji. I'd be interested in a review of the XT-4 combined with the 50-140 mm 2.8. There are plenty of videos on that combo but a fresh look would be appreciated. I'm saving for the zoom as I type! Thanks!

do you shoot Jpeg to use film simulation, RAW does not output those. Unless you process in Capture One, they have the simulations built into the program.
@davecapote
@davecapote 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Scott. Whenever I’m using Fuji simulations I use Fuji’s own software called “Fuji raw studio”. I shoot raw in the field and then you can apply any of the recipes after the fact. I take the recipes from Fuji weeklys website and store them in the raw studio software. Hope that makes sense!

Hi, can I ask, do you use any lens adapter for your GFX 50r? I'm planning to use a GFX 50r body to pair with my Mamiya 7 lens. Any thoughts on that? Thanks!
@davecapote
@davecapote 3 жыл бұрын
So I do not own a fotodiox adapter but I have used it before and it felt like I was shooting my mamiya 7. No issues with vignetting or anything like that. I think it will be my next purchase. All ive been using for my professional work has been the 110 f2 and the 45. They've been awesome. Shooting product photos for a video on here soon

Dave, this video has me so close to making the leap! I've been shooting on an A7 with a 35mm prime for 10 years, and I think I'm ready to make a step up now that the GFX-50R is under $3K. I do amateur street and landscape stuff (no studio/tabletop), and wondering how the medium format compares when you're shooting in the style of your IG feed.
