The Voigtlander 40mm and 50mm 1.2 M mount lenses work pretty well on the GFX. There's some vignetting of course but it actually looks quite nice on portraits and can largely be corrected in post.

Josh, I just want to say that your photos portray Britain in a way I’ve not seen from any other photographer. It’s like they pull long past memories of summers from my childhood. In particular, the warm colours and contrast feel like they truly represent how I see and remember England - dreamy yet somehow also so authentic. Looking forward to issue 3 of Framelines, and maybe you guys will announce subscriptions one day too? 😛

The detail is a given on the GFX, but its the tonality and the depth to the images that really makes it. I've been using the system for nearly 18 months now, and I'm still amazed at the images I get from this camera (GFX50S) - native lenses although bulky are the sharpest (IMO), but some adapted glass works well, other still gives that vintage look but vignettes, some can be removed in post, or a gentle 5:4 crop can remove the worst. A very usable compact lens is the Canon EF40mm - combined with an Andoer adapter you have AF and a very small (almost discrete for a GFX) package. I love the rendering of the Canon FD 50mm F1.4 on the GFX but it does vignette especially wide open, surprisingly the FD28mm isn't too bad, and the FD135mm is very good. One lens that really surprised me was the Helios 44-2, this gives nearly complete coverage wide open, and you get amazing swirly bokeh effects. Plenty of fun to be had with adapted glass.
@frame-lines
@frame-lines 2 жыл бұрын
Hadn't occurred to me to try canon lenses, also didn't realise you could still get AF with them - what field of view does the full frame canon 40mm give you on the GFX sensor?
@davidyeoman5876
@davidyeoman5876 2 жыл бұрын
@@frame-lines amazingly it covers the whole sensor (32mm FF equiv), I use it with the Andoer Adapter, also use EF100mmF2.8L Macro (again full sensor coverage) and the Sigma 35mm ART F1.4 (though that does vignette a little)

I just recently picked up a GFX 50R and I've paired it with my vintage Mamiya 645 glass and loving it so far! Considering the price of film and availability recently I am very happy to be shooting in an almost film sense with the gfx. It's slower and quite similar to the way in which I shoot film so I've been enjoying it. The lenses I have paired from the Mamiya 645 system are the 45mm f2.8, 70mm f2.8, 120mm f4 macro and the 150mm f3.5.

5:14 that's my friends ice cream van - Twickeham! Love the channel. Helps me with my photography, especially through a London lens. Bought the Xpro 2 on your recomendation and love it. Thinking of adding a Fuji GFX camera with the 80mm 1.7 lens in the future. From rambling on the streets taking pictures, i've found my niche (need practice) documentary and portrait...

The real revelation is the step up to the 50SII with IBIS. That was the icing on the cake. Insane how good the resulting images are when you are coming from a 50R. It blew me away!

Josh, great video and even better questions from you about the differences between MFT, Full-Frame, and Digital Medium Format. I shoot with an MFT system, the big brother to the one you have, the LUMIX GX9. I shoot APS-C with the Fujifilm X-Pro3 and Full-Frame with the LUMIX S5. They all serve their respective purposes but I only use my GX9 and X-Pro3 for street. documentary, and travel photography. I used to own the Leica CL, sold it, and replace it with the GX9 because the GX9 in every way is a superior camera. But to your point about MFT, you can thank KZbin for giving it a bad reputation amongst people who've never shot with it. You can thank Panasonic and Olympus for doing a piss poor job marketing it. As for the GFX, I've shot with it only once and I was very pleased with the image quality. Autofocus was not an issue at all and for street, I think it works if you don't mind the weight of it over a typical Fujifilm X camera. Thanks for having this discussion. Great video.

Ah nice one, thank you for watching - and yes I am always so pleased with the results from Micro 4/3 - I also think it outperforms APS-C, not sure how that works...

@@frame-lines MFT is a photographer's dream when used properly. I pair my GX9 with M glass and the rendering takes the images straight out of camera to the next level. I use the DJI version of the Pana-Leica 15mm f1.7, Leica Summilux 25mm f1.4, and the Voïgtlander NOKTON 40mm f1.4 as my trio of primes for this camera. I've been quite pleased with the image quality on this MFT camera than I am with my X-Pro3 at times. While I have no scientific evidence that MFT is better than APS-C but I have seen a few videos saying it was better than full-frame in some cases. I say shoot with the camera system that gets the job done. Having a lightweight kit that performs is always my goal. Which is why I don't understand these newer mirror less full-frame cameras with these HUGE lenses. And all the manufacturers are doing it. 🤔

i have gfx 50R with viltrox ef to gfx autofocus adapter , been using it with canon ef 135 f2, 85 f1.2 and pancake lens 40 2.8 - all lenses have almost no vignette on my gfx50r . love using the 85 1.2 for portrait , the bokeh are amazing and when doing street shooting i always use the 40 2.8 stm, its like having no lens on the gfx since its so compact and light. autofocus are relatively fast with the 135 n 40 , and slow with 85 1.2 since its a slow af lens even in canon body

I have the GFX 50R and the 45mm f/2.8. I love the files and find it capable of most scenarios. People who complain about Fujifilm cameras and their capability need more practice with manual lenses. I have adapted my pentax 645 120mm f/4 macro lens, my full frame Nikon 75- 300mm AF lens, and 50mm f/1.7 and 40mm pancake Pentax lenses. I shoot soccer, basketball and Australian Rules football matches with the 50R and two energetic toddlers with excellent results. If you can't get the shot with a GFX camera, you don't need a Sony; you need practice. Regards B

I'm glad I found your channel. I am currently deciding between a GFX50S and a Leica SL (601), which has a similar sensor to your Q2. They are roughly the same price. Which one would you pick if you mostly do somewhat slow documentary and street photography? Which camera's output did you like the most?

Cool vid. For my portrait work Ive used the Mitakon 63mm f1.4 and the 85mm f1.2 lenses as well. And have some varied success with the TT Artisan 50mm f.95 M mount as it barely covers the sensor for wider shots. Needs heavy vignette adjustments however.

The cool thing benj haisch always does is adapt a leica M lens. The radius is usually even enough to fill the entire frame. So you don't need to use such big and heavy medium format lenses but still get the vintage look. 👌

And there was me thinking my A7III and Voigtlander 40mm f1.2 was a bit on the large size for street photography 😁. Although 28mm is quite a popular street focal length, I also prefer a ‘normal’ focal length that doesn’t have any distortion. Something nice about viewing photos without any lens characteristics becoming a distraction.

Hey Josh. I've really liked the files on my 50Sii with adapted Mamiya 645 glass. In particular the 45mm f2.8, 80mm f1.9 and 120mm f4 macro. I've just pre-ordered the 0.8x Kipon M645 to GFX speedbooster that's supposed to start shipping next month, which should in theory give that medium format compression to an even greater extent as you can get a wider shot with the same distance to subject for a given focal length. Think that's how it works... distance to subject and focal length fixing the compression, then the sensor size determining how much of the projected scene you can record?!
@frame-lines
@frame-lines 2 жыл бұрын
Oh wow ok - I was wondering about Mamiya 645 lenses , I’ll have to give them a go. That speed booster sounds a bit over my head though 😅
@dan-le-brun

A normal adapter works great too, so the speed booster is only of interest if you have money to burn and want to recreate the field of view as if you had the lens on a 645 body.
