I'm a film maker from south africa, almost no independant film media is released here , sometimes even mainstream stuff (and when it does it arrives months after the release in the west), Piracy is literally the only way i can find some older films by auteur directors like Tarkovsky, Bela Tarr, Robert Altman, Lars Von Trier , etc... I once asked a director on instagram if he minds me pirating his work since ill never see a digital copy of his films here ever, he said "go ahead" its not really hurting him or his crew who made the film. Most people here have capped internet so streaming would waste our data especially when streaming in 4k or 1080p. Piracy is miraculous amongst us 3rd worlders its how we access media that we cant ever see

It's literally the same thing here in Romania. Netflix's selection is a sick joke, DVDs and Blurays are on the expensive side here (and the selection still sucks, which is made worse by the fact that stores that do sell prey on people who do buy and rarely apply discounts) and the used market...yeah, not happening. Renting died upon the arrival of the internet, so, as a result, in many cases if you want to see a specific film piracy might be the only option (I have done my best to get at least a few legitimately, but a few is the best way to describe my film collection)

Yeah, in my country there are so many titles unavailable for purchase that if you want to watch them legally you must buy them online and pay ten times as much as the film's worth for shipping. And internet speed is often too expensive.

@@B.E.3.R I have a legitimate question for you and K.E. Anderson: when you see documentaries on the kind of movie pirates on the streets of 3rd world countries or just-off-the-beaten-path countries, the covers and subtitles are absolutely fucked that clearly are done by amateurs. But wherever you go, there are always collectors of every stripe who work to access quality material. So what are the high-end piracy situations like in nations like yours? Are there people who work to find a way to make sure that pirated material is as good as can be accomplished?

Perhaps no other medium than the movie industry has combated piracy in the worst way. It's absolutely batshit how many hoops you have to jump through to either watch Blu Rays (both 1080p and 4K) on PC, or stream 4K video on PC through _any_ streaming service. It's at the point where it's way, way easier just to pirate 4K content. Last I checked, making piracy the easier option defeated the entire purpose of DRM.

So true. Games seem to run much better as well. I bought AC Odyssey, but had the pirated version first. The pirated version used less CPU and framerate was a bit higher. Same with AC Origin. Might have had something to do with Uplay being present with the legit installs, but IDK. I chalked it up to internet activity / Uplay that didn't exist on pirate vers.

@@Theo_Caro Think KZbinrs, it's morally unjust to pirate their content simply because of scale, they don't have billions of dollars in production equipment, but Hollyweird do. Also, as a pirate, I don't do it just because I can, I do it because I have no choice, I'd love to pay for my shit legally, but these companies do not acknowledge the existence of my country, so I have less than no choice but to be a pirate. The only one that acknowledges our existence is Steam, because Gaben doesn't care where the money comes from, so long as it keeps coming lol But aside from games, you'll never find a legal physical copy anywhere in this country, and the online services do not believe that we exist. And after scrolling these comments, you'd be quite shocked at just how many countries are willing to pay, but can't because only America, Europe and China exists in the eyes of these companies.

@Pooja Patil I thin one of the keys to understand is how 'The Scene' began - While there has always been Movie Piracy even back in the days of VHS and BetaMax (Yes I am old enough to remember both of them!) - The Scene really blew up with MicroComputers... Which became stronger as Companies divided their operations into different divisions... Best Example - SONY... They Started SONY ELECTRONICS DIVISION, SONY MUSIC and SONY ENTERTAINMENT for Movie sand Television... So while all are SONY CORPORATE, All are actually Individual Companies under a Sony Banner. SONY ELECTRONICS started to release the 2 Deck VCR - Allowing Home Users a method to record VHS Movies directly! This in turn would lead to SONY ENTERTAINMENT to Sue and Press for Compensation when people made illegal copies and tried to sell them... In effect, SONY provided the tools to copy and then punished you for using them!!! Companies KNEW EXACTLY WHAT THEY WERE DOING... They knew people would want something for nothing so Profited from that! The Release of Cassette to Cassette Recorders also made Software Piracy Easier... So, Many in the Software industry started implementing new methods to prevent illegal copies being made... ... But for those in the Scene, This is not a deterrent - Its a Challenge! The Scene does NOT AIM to cause any harm - They want to challenge themselves! For them its a matter of pride and skill! It is also why in many early releases - Things that leaked to The Pirate bay etc... Great Example, Red Alert 2... The Scene had CRACKED The Game - It was playable and they COULD HAVE released it complete! But the official Scene Version was released DELIBERATELY as a RIP... A RIP in this case being a DELIBERATELY CUT DOWN Product - They removed all the cutscenes and In game Video elements! The game was still 100% Playable - But to get the FULL Experience... You would have to BUY IT! The same was done to MAX PAYNE, And numerous others! The Scene aims to Challenge itself... They are their trying to show each other their technical prowess... The last things they want is the Industry to be harmed or they have nothing to work with! It is the same as HACKERS - The Majority of True Hackers don't hack to cause any harm... They are trying to challenge their skills! The Scene is about Personal Pride... NOT Piracy!

Too expensive? In some sort, yes. If the quality of the content we get would fit the prices, it would be ok already. But my experience with games, music and movies was until about 2005-2010...you got at least "what you paid for". But the newer any movie or game ist, the chances are higher its garbage and the publishers should PAY YOU FOR WASTING YOUR TIME. Especially at games.... i dont buy them anymore and i cant test them legally since demos/partial prereleases are very rare and you cant even be sure that the game will stay as good as it was at release (more or less the best you can hope for nowadays!). Most modern games are getting worse/more "casual" with updates/DLCs. Worse than they were already at its release! If i really like a game and i had good experience already with the downloaded cracked game - i probably buy it, sadly most games are not even worth keeping on the SSD, not even the HDD and get deleted again!

RE: TeleSync, this is not about video quality although it always helps, its more about audio. A TeleSync is just a CAM video with direct audio. Direct audio is audio that is recorded via a direct source, this used to be via headphone jacks in cinemas, from drive-ins, but more commonly these days the cinema can provide infra-red/induction loop receivers that have audio jacks on them for hard of hearing people, these often have both normal audio and audio descriptions on separate channels. That's my only nitpick in this very well made and detailed video.

Rockets are simple my dude - you set fire to some shit in a tube with a hole in one end, the shit you set fire to turns into gas, which takes up a LOT more space than the liquid it was before, and rushes out of the hole. Because every force has an equal and opposite, the gas rushing out of the can pushes the can forwards. Find stuff that burns with enough passion, and you can get to space. Everything else is just figuring out how to deal with adding more fuel making the rocket heavier, so it has to burn more fuel to take off, and nozzle shape. And not being blown up. I recommend reading "Ignition!" by John D. Clark. It's very good.

that brings us kinda to another point, where people get removed from their games, even single player games, back in the day u could get everything in the game through gameplay including cosmetics and what not, nowadays if we take ac origins, u got lootboxes, daily quests, an army of dlc and loot dlc, uplay reward garbage etc... etc... + online connection, this whole feeling of "it's no longer your game, so u better behave" type of mentality needs to change, or things will get worse. and assuming u played a multiplayer game, 1000 coins for 10 dollars with coins being farmable through gameplay, that sounds like a probs multiplayer game, that already heavily shits on users.... but hey could be, that your game was f2p with no p2w and the coins can only be used for straight buy cosmetics and also attainable through gameplay, but having looked at the history of games and having seen where we are going, i doubt it was a decently fair system :D also: exploits are fun, as long as they aren't used in pvp or heavily fought for pve content progression like raids in mmos.

Console game scene rules / weirdest console scene rules could have it's own video. One somewhat weird thing that scene enforced around Nintendo was that all ROM or Disc Image files shared need to be 100% full dump of the data medium, so, full size of the ROM used, or full disc image zeroes included. So even if Super Mario All-Stars for Wii is actually just a 13 meg game, as scene dictated it is only released as 4.7gig ISO. Also once a new hot game was being waited for Nintendo DS, but was nuked almost immediately a group shared it because it was "trimmed" and the file of the ROM had 2 megabytes of zeroes cut from it, making it a fully functional 121 meg file instead of fully functional 128meg file.
@TRDiscordian
@TRDiscordian 5 жыл бұрын
You could tag it "trimmed" but I agree it got exhausting at times. The original reason was for compatibility, but as everyone eventually got to the point where CSOs were interchangeable with ISOs it just became annoying. My prime example is Animal Crossing GC, which is 32MB without the zeros (as it's basically just an N64 game...) instead of the 4.7gb download. It's damn near impossible (at least it was...) to find the version without the zeros, and you had to do it yourself. I'm not sure if it was really a scene rules issue, more of an organizational issue, which is annoyingly common in Nintendo/Sony scenes.

@shrgnatlas
@shrgnatlas 5 жыл бұрын
It isn't really "rare" anymore, as much as the processing of telecines has become obsolete. A proper telecine is the digital reproduction of the film stock, with no real standard by which to compare two differently sourced telecines. The quality was almost always better than a screener (or retail DVD) as it had no watermarks and (when done correctly) was a frame-by-frame composite of the reel used in a cinema. If you happened to be running a cinema with access to physical prints as opposed to digital satellite feeds or drive bays, then there is a possibility (usually from an international source) that an actual telecine could be released to a private group looking for a supplier. Honestly though, I think the last "true" telecines were released in the early to mid 2000s and haven't resurfaced since, (some groups (primarily P2P) have arrogantly released "high quality" telesyncs and labeled them (incorrectly) as telecines).

TV Scene rules are not that different from the film rules, its just the source definitions are different. DSR > PDTV > HDTV etc But its all about speed, different capturing methods for different TV providers, segmented encoding, cutting commercials. Automation is key. Some TV groups even have pre-air sources which is how they can release the second the episode ends or before. (pre-air meaning they have access to a C-band satellite feed where the network sends the episodes to the local affiliates ahead of the scheduled air time).

One issue I have with modern implementatiosn of DRM is the use of technologies embedded only in Intel CPU's. If I wanted to play a 4K Blu Ray on my PC I wouldn't be able to because my CPU which is an i9 7980XE does not have an integrated iGPU which on an intel processor is what contains the SGX technologies. In short I have a computer that I use to author 4K content but can't playback legally purchased 4K content. This is one avenue in which piracy makes sense, because those who pirate ddont have to put up with these restrictions, only those who pay for their movies do. In this way it is the person who purchases a product that is penalised. Now I have a separate 4K blu ray player that I use, but my video production machine could do this if the SGX technologies weren't an artificial requirement.

The point is that NO anti-piracy measure, legal or technical, has EVER been effective, so the whole thing is totally pointless. If they made movies available cheaper and sooner then piracy could go away to a large extent. And the latter point is an important one - Studios could drastically reduce piracy if they released the movie on DVD or bluray as soon as its cinematic run has ended - a large part of the motivation for piracy is to get a movie sooner rather than later
