In this scouting report, I wanted to look at Baker Mayfield and his play at Oklahoma. With his accuracy on the run, his ability to improvise, and his intangibles, I think he's going to make a great franchise quarterback in the NFL. He has some mechanical issues where he'll throw with a stiff leg but I feel like he has an NFL arm. He is not pro ready right this minute, but could really turn into a great NFL Quarterback.

What busts? A injury prone Sam Bradford? Everyone knew about his injuries but Sam Bradford was such a talented thrower they had to take a chance. What other QB are you talking about. Landry Jones who went in the 3 round and has sat behind Big Ben his whole career. Wow youre smart.

All the QBs have flaws, but Mayfield is still my favorite of the bunch to be good. In college football history there are only a handful of passers who have > 10 career YPA. On a given season, you get 0-3 passers that manage it and Mayfield is the only player in the last 15+ years to have two such seasons. The anticipation and accuracy are there, so I expect him to become a good passer with coaching. Significantly more likely in my mind than Allen.

Great analysis but I will say if you look at a lot of the pass plays where he 3 step whips the ball off front foot....if you really go over film, you'll that he is timing that release because the windows are closing. He understands a lot of throws aren't going to be "over" hand. His arm strength really shows up with these passes and live they have pop. He can't do it all by himself but he won't need much help, just execution. He processes so fast that the game slows down for him, pretty cool to watch him resetting his feet while he reads progression.

Mayfield has all the tools. He will be great if he puts the work in. We already know he has the confidence to be great. He reminds me psychologically like Dan Marino. He believes in himself, and is going to be one of the all time greats if he has the work ethic.

Seems like the jets would be best fit for him and vice versa (if Cousins goes somewhere else and Rosen/Darnold are taken by 5 which is more than likely), Jets can resign Josh McCown to start 2018 and he is the perfect vet to help Baker learn progressions. To me its an upside that Baker will almost definitely have to step in sometime during the season for an injured McCown with low pressure and get some experience. My dad (the true jets fan) really wants Lamar Jackson, thoughts on which QB is more likely to succeed at next the level?

engiNe yeezy Michael Vick, Cam Newton, Mariota are all dual threat QBs who have had success in NFL and Lamar Jackson threw a ton. There's a diff between a dual threat qb and a running qb (Tim Tebow), Lamar Jackson has already proven he's a proficient passer. Statistically a mobile qb is far more likely to succeed than an air raid qb (Mayfield). For me to decide I would have to talk to both guys to see who has more integrity and who has more drive to improve. Given Mayfield antics on and off field plus looking at LJ improvement every season as a passer on a weak offense I would take LJ if I had to pick now

Personally, Mayfield kinda reminds me of Romo. He's hard to take down in the backfield, he's just mobile enough to make a profit outside the pocket, he does well when he plays up-tempo and charges down the field, he has a tendency to overextend plays to go for unnecessary large gains but he also tends to make that work when it shouldn't and when it doesn't work he gets punished hard.

I think there's some Jimmy Garoppolo in his game. Quick feet, quick release, very accurate, smart, works hard, goes through progressions and throws well on the move. Like Jimmy G, he's going to need some time behind a veteran (actually none of the QBs in this draft are ready to start right away, IMO), but he has the potential to be a quality starter, if not an elite QB.

I really don't see what you see in him. He played behind an incredible O line that let him do whatever he wanted in the pocket. You should really evaluate QBs on how well they play in conflict, i.e. Blitzes, effective pass rushes, after they've been hit a few times...

Hey Conor, maybe you should dictate your fandom on videos like this. Though I love Gold's videos, it's simply his personal assessment. Go back and look at his videos from last year's class, specifically Dashaun Watson. He had Watson as a mid 2nd round grade, Watson got to Houston and was tearing the league up until his injury. He criticized his completion percentage because he played in the spread and threw screens/hitches, yet it was the spread concepts pulled directly from the Clemson playbook that helped Watson make the transition as well as had him account for 21 TD's in just 6 games. Baker Mayfield imo is a beast, and though I do watch videos like this and respect Gold's opinion, I dont let videos like this dictate my feeling on a player. It just lets me view the same player form a different point of view.

What do you think about Miami taking Mayfield at 11? I think it can be a similar situation to the Chiefs last season. Could be a good motivator for Tannehill, and depending on how Tannehill plays we can decide whether to trade him and move on to Mayfield or keep him after the season. Also I think the offense would be a good fit for Mayfield considering his similar skill set to Tannehill's.

I think it *should* go like this: #1 Position player, Browns (I think the Browns should trade for McCarron and build up a roster before stabbing at another rookie QB. #2 Allen, Giants (Sit Josh Allen behind Eli for a year and let him learn, most talented QB in draft) #4 Position Player, Browns (For reasons I mentioned earlier) #5 Cousins, Broncos (Defense is ready to compete, throw the book at Cousins. Though I’ve been hearing really good things about the guard from Notre Dame) #6 Rosen, Jets (Farther along than Darnold, will need to start right away and is a better option to take that on than Darnold) #15 Darnold, Cardinals (Bit of a toss up between him, Mayfield and even Jackson. Up to the new coaching staff. I think Darnold would be the safest option.) #17 Mayfield, Chargers (Find Rivers’ successor now. Perfect guy for Mayfield to sit behind and learn. Although the Chargers would probably like to address other issues on their roster at #17) #27 Jackson, Saints (Brees will be good for Jackson, Sean Payton is good for Jackson. Unless you find an impact rookie that will help you to the Super Bowl this season you draft Jackson.)

You keep saying "if he has time to develop, then he'll be an NFL qb." Well tbat doesn't work in the nfl. There are no teams that are picking high that have a veteran qb for him to study behind. Every time that we say that, we arlready an expect for him to be a bust. They said the same thing about Colt McCoy, Jake Locker, and Manziel. So I just have a gut feeling that he's going to be horrible in the NFL. I like Josh Allen more than him.

Honestly he is a 2nd round guy at best whose value is bumped up by so many teams needing a QB. While he does have some great qualities like accuracy and can make some wow plays, his downfall will be that he holds the ball too long and doesn’t throw with anticipation to throw a guy open. I watched him lose his starting job to Davis Webb at Texas Tech for the same reasons. The reason he could get away with holding the ball at OU is because they have one of the best O-lines in the country. Go watch any of his highlights or videos showing all of his plays in a game. I’m not even sure you can call what the defenses are doing a pass rush. Now I’m not here saying he is bad, but he’ll have to go to the right team such as the Dolphins if they resign Jarvis Landry. They have a good enough offensive line and run a system with a lot of short passes where Mayfield could be efficient in. I’m a Broncos fan and can tell you we are not a good fit for him. If we draft anybody but Quenton Nelson ( Notre Dame guard) then we wasted the 5th pick in the draft. Only exceptions would be Bradley Chubb and Minkah Fitzpatrick if Nelson is picked already.

I swear I'm watching Mahomes here. Less arm talent, shorter, and runs more, but same mentality. Question is, does he have the mind to learn like Mahomes did? Only reason why I question that is, he does stupid crap too often, childish personalities tend to fade out quickly at the next level.

Tremendously overrated as a pro prospect. Upside Case Keenum. More likely comp is Cade McNown.

Yes because whether or not a person is viewed as mature definitely correlates to whether or not he will become a good qb great analysis no film needed

Mayfield is so overrated... May develop into a good qb, but no way in hell is he a top 10 pick
