Samuel how did you get so good at scouting? Im interested in learning the game on a deeper level and wamt to learn how to evaluate all the positions. How did you come about to learning all that and do you recommend I take a course like The Scouting Academy? Thanks and keep up the great content
@SamuelGoldNFL6 жыл бұрын
You just gotta start at the basics and the more tape you watch the better you'll be at it. You have to ask the question "why did this happen on this play?" and everything will start to follow through from there. At that point, you look for traits that you see over and over again and try to look for patterns. Everybody can find one or two bad plays. Does he do it repeatedly is the question. As far as the Scouting Academy, I know the founder and a lot of the guys over there. They do good work but it's a bit pricey for an average person that doesn't want to pursue this work full-time. BUT if you can afford it and have the time to work on it, it's a good program to learn a lot. My recommendation is to read some starting books like "Take your eye off the ball" for example and see what you WANT to study from there. If you are still interested in a more detailed program than go with the Scouting Academy. This is what I'd do if it were me! Cheers!

That first pass in the clip is perfect example of why the Browns are just broken. I mean he throws a laser 40 yards standing still. Mayfield would drop that 10 yards short easy as he has to really wind up to make the same throw, but he isn't getting the time and he's obviously short and slow too boot. Ahh the Browns, you really lucked out Sam:)

If his wide recievers are constently making mistakes in their routes, then perhaps it's indicitive of a problem in his communication/playcalling skills?
@SamuelGoldNFL6 жыл бұрын
If your wide receivers can't run basic routes it's an indication the OC and WR coach (same guy at USC!) is not coaching properly. Darnold just announces the plays. He can't run the route as well.

If Josh Rosen is number 1 and Darnold is second who would be third? Jackson or Mayfield?
@kyleharrison7136 жыл бұрын
Good vid, as usual. I'd add he's got 2 BIG red flags. #1, very few college starts. It tends to be a bad thing at the next level when you're still learning the basics. #2, fumbling inside the pocket. Name a good qb who struggles to hold onto the ball in the pocket. He will get hit at the next level, and this could set him back considerably.
@jarretberenson12146 жыл бұрын
Kyle Harrison Jarrod Goff fumbles a lot, but I see your point

@dankburrito42196 жыл бұрын
Kyle Harrison Wentz had those same issues. It's all about two hands on the ball. Most of the fumbles you see him having the ball in one hand at his waist leaving it out to be stripped.

With the strengths and weaknesses listed, I just don't understand how Darnold is a good pick at 2 but Lamar Jackson is a risk. Darnold's weaknesses were the same if not worse. You list mechanics, TURNOVERS, and throwing on the run as weakness. In the Jackson video you say accuracy is primary for QB, but those weaknesses listed dont speak well to that. Just an observation.

Every highlight I see of Darnold he's either in shotgun formation or pistol formation. I watched the USC vs UCLA game and he's always in shotgun or pistol. I've never seen him under center. Josh Rosen is miles ahead of Darnold but if the guy expresses some personality then red flag. If Rosen falls down draft due to always questioning why a play would work and for not being a company man then someone is going to get a steal. If he drops below the top 10 I'd say watch out for the Chargers to trade up to get rivers successor
@DPMixing6 жыл бұрын
kumar01234 Rosen falls down in the draft because he has poor mobility, had double digit INTs in college, and quit on his teams in multiple big games plus durability issues. Yes Rosen has arm talent and the most perfect mechanics a decade of private QB coaching can buy, but his production really wasn’t there in college. The people that are hyped about him love his workout footage where he has a beautiful throwing motion with no coverage or pass rush to deal with but how about his game tape versus Arizona, Memphis, ASU last year? He got exposed by some pretty average college defenses at times and just doesn’t appear to be a great leader that’s fully invested at all times.

Time will tell on Darnold, he played in the garbage Pac 10 with 0 legit defenses and had almost as many TO's as TD's last year. I find it almost humorous that Darnold's fumble-ite-is is no big deal. He's a turnover machine, fumbling and throwing interceptions in the Red Zone consistantly. One of the leaders in this category in the NCAA. Why this fact is ignored should challenge the view that he is supposed to be a 'safe' pick. He is NOT the concensus best quarterback in this draft.

I think Sam Gold has been given Gold 💵💵💵 to promote this kid & the UCLA QB because they obviously aren't ready for College, not-to-mention NFL!! Sam Darnold was a marginal QB who played against marginal talent. USC should've put him against three to four top SEC teams to give him good exposure to top tier defenses. 90% of USC QB's are 1st round busts because they are told they are the best but aren't prepared properly! 😔😔😔 If you under perform in College you will at best be a backup in the pros. Any NFL GM who picks this guy outside of the 3rd round is incapable of performing true evaluations!
