I'm an 80s kid and The Goonies was considered a tame kid's flick. We grew up watching way worse. Less coddling, zero parental supervision back then :)

Damn right. The kids who grew up without safety walls on the trampoline...... They're probably the most unAmerican thing I've ever seen lol

@@eliemoses One of my favorite movies growing up was Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, which is PG-13 and is actually the film responsible for the creation of the rating. It didn't exist before then so the film was rated PG by the MPAA, ha ha. I remember being like, 6, and watching the guy get his heart ripped out and burned to death and thought it was the coolest thing ever.

Sloth's Raiders thing isnt an accident. Sloth is John Matuszak who played for the Raiders.. an infamous player, and a besst on the field... but he was great with the kids on this set. Sloths Superman shirt is nod to the fact that the director of this, Richard Donner directed Superman *and half of Superman 2. One eyed willy is slang for. . Well, guess 😂 The original writer of Goonies is Chris Columbus who wrote the original script for Gremlins. The Cindi Lauper music video for this was shot on the set and features the kids and a ton of 80s wrestlers who Cindi was friends with (she was also at an early Wrestlemania).

This video popped while I was at the office. Scampered away to the lunch room to take an impromptu time out. Waiting on Stranger Things to complete before watching it but understand how it takes inspiration from The Goonies, in the same way Back to the Future inspired Rick and Morty. Love Ke Huy Quan, and thought he was also of Vietnamese-decent. Representation for our people back in the early 80's, wow! You so gud to us Elie.

This was a Friday treat, thx Elie! Sloth using the dagger/sword to ride down the sail of the pirate ship immediately made me think Errol Flynn as it's originator, but found out it was actually Douglas Fairbanks Sr. from The Black Pirate. The Mythbusters researched the effectiveness of this maneuver, and credited Douglas Fairbanks in the Sinbad movie - it’s first use in cinema. (Sadly, it’s unlikely to work in real life so I won't be attempting it in any Goonies-esque adventures I plan to partake in.) Regardless, Sloth in-film takes inspiration from watching The Sea Hawk (starring Flynn), which was playing on the TV at the Fratelli hideout. Errol Flynn, an Australian actor from the Golden Age of Hollywood is our "Aussie Connection of the Day". MAUI [singing] ...You're Welcome :)

"Don't you realize? The next time you see sky, it'll be over another town. The next time you take a test, it'll be in some other school. Our parents, they want the best of stuff for us. But right now, they got to do what's right for them. Because it's their time. Their time! Up there! Down here, it's our time. It's our time down here. That's all over the second we ride up Troy's bucket." Fun Fact: Film debut of Josh Brolin, Sean Astin, and Kerri Green. Novelization Fact: The novelization confirms that Chunk's (Jeff Cohen) parents actually do "adopt" Sloth (John Matuszak), going so far as to throw him a Bar Mitzvah. Heartbreaking Fact: According to Sean Astin, he was allowed to keep the treasure map used in the film. Several years later his mother Patty Duke (an actress herself) discovered it, thought it was just a crinkled piece of paper, and threw it in the bin. Historical Fact: The Fratellis are loosely based off Ma Barker and the Barker-Karpis gang during the "public enemy era" of America crime history. While Ma Barker's leadership is in dispute, she was definitely an accomplice to the gang's many robberies and murders. Ma Barker and the gang met their end in a house off Lake Weir in Florida. You should read more about them. The Inferno Fact: One Eyed Willie's ship was 105 feet long and took 2-1/2 months to construct. It was modeled after Errol Flynn's ship in The Sea Hawk (1940). The sails required more than 7,000 sq. ft. of material, the largest measured 30 ft. by 60 ft. The cast was not allowed to see the pirate ship before the scene was shot, as director Richard Donner wanted to catch their genuine reactions at the size and scope of it. When they did see it, Josh Brolin was so surprised that he exclaimed "Holy shit!" without thinking. The scene had to be re-shot. When filming ended, some of the ship's rigging was recycled for the "Pirates Of The Caribbean" ship at Disneyland, which was being renovated at the time.

Young Josh Brolin could melt icebergs in those early years with his appeal in The Goonies. Way before he was snapping half the universe out of existence as Thanos, or hanging with his pal Deadpool as Cable the time-travelling mutant. The end of this film still gets me: Data telling his father "you can't hug a photograph". Data's father responding; "You are my greatest invention". SO FREAKING SWEET!!!

So you wouldn't know this but the promos for this movie crazy. Cindy Lauper sang the song and did the music video plus they tied in the WWF (WWE) wrestlers in the music video as well. And then that eneded up being a promo also for Cindy along with the wrestlers and the Hulkster for their cartoon. Back then promos were insane for movies.
