you're watching peak after peak😭 still the greatest writing in almost any piece of media I've seen. There's so much to analyze about EVERYTHING in The Sopranos, it's such an amazing ride. I don't think it gets as many views as BB or BCS reactions but it is still considered to be one of, if not the greatest tv show ever and without it, BB would not exist. I'm glad you're starting this and hopefully it gets the views that it deserves !

fun fact for the scene at 5:52 Michael Imperioli (Christopher Moltisanti's actor) didn't know how to drive and did not have his liscence at the time of filming. At a certain point when he was driving, he ran or backed into a tree or something and he thought he was going to get fired lol

This was a good choice, and the 25th anniversary of the premiere was last week. Sopranos inspired a lot of prestige television that followed, from The Shield to Breaking Bad to Mad Men.

Can't believe you're closing out the BB/BCS saga by starting True Detective and The Sopranos. Almost all my favorite shows at once. So excited!! Also check out Bojack Horseman if you wanna react to another one of my favorite shows lol. Def one of the underrated greats.

Oooooooh! Just when I thought I was out, Moses pulls me back in... And I thought you'd peaked at starting True Detective just as you're finishing Saul. Once you've injected this show into your veins, along with TD, it's only right that down the line you chase it with The Wire. Edit: interesting that you mentioned The Wolf of Wall Street earlier on as that was written by Terry Winter, who was a writer/producer on The Sopranos.

I haven't seen this show in ages, stoked for you to be watching this now - the Sopranos ran so Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul could *sprint*. Also yeah these are NY Italians to the bone (which I entirely forgot this technically takes place in Jersey - in my experience growing up in NY the differences are subtle, aside from Carm's EXTREMELY Jersey accent), my whole family is essentially a mundane, watered down version of this. Apparently my grandfather was a bookie for the NY mob but I never met him so I never knew for sure. I'm told these days it's less drugs and murder and more upper class kinds of crime. Tax fraud, stock market manipulation, and weirdly enough they're all up in agriculture. Look up the connection between the mafia and olive oil, it's pretty wild. But also not as exciting to watch as Tony's antics!

If you hear this accent, and they’re Italian, they’re from New York/New Jersey, if you hear that accent and they’re Irish, they’re in Boston

Most reactors never make it to the end of the show. The show gets so deep & intense it’s hard to react to it without being judged by viewers. Glad you have the captions on so you can see the music lyrics. The Sopranos is about 10% a musical & often the storyline is advanced in song lyrics too. You sound British which will help because the writing is so deep & having a great command of English will help you put vital details together. You did stumble into the overall premise of the show... Tony trying to keep both his mob family & his kindred family together without one destroying the other. And if you ever wondered what’s inside the mind of a psychopath... you’ll learn what with these therapy sessions. Some of the most brilliant & bold lines ever uttered come out of these therapy sessions. Anyway... hope you make it to the end without losing your audience. Truth is Tony isn’t the one being psycho analyzed here. The show is written in a way that the viewers ultimately are the ones being psycho analyzed without them even knowing it.

Oh, and the accents are New Jersey, not New York. It's all the difference. The universe of The Sopranos is New Jersey. This point is driven home in the very first shots of the opening, which have Tony leaving Manhattan and emerging on the Jersey side of the Lincoln Tunnel. All the following shots are New Jersey. The characters frequently go to NYC (it's just across the river but a different world), but NYC is not their turf. Listen to Gandolfini carefully in the second episode. He hadn't quite nailed the accent in the pilot, but by the time HBO picked up the show, he had worked with a dialect coach and sounds markedly different. Even though Gandolfini was from NJ, he sounded completely different in real life.

The greatest TV show ever. As much as I love The Wire, Mad Men, Buffy, Succession, Breaking Bad, Friday Night Lights, Deadwood, Battlestar Galactica, Better Call Saul, etc - nothing has topped this show’s mixture of great dialogue, great acting, great storytelling, powerful themes. And as influential as this show is, prepare for it not to always follow the formula that it helped create. Even today, it still feels like very much it’s own thing, still feels subversive, and has never been perfectly emulated. The first few episodes do kinda feel like Goodfellas: The TV Show, but it quickly finds its own groove and perspective. I will say, even though this is the greatest show ever, it’s not a perfect fit for reactions since you really have to get into the themes and characterization on a deeper level than immediate reactions, especially as the series progresses. Still looking forward to your reactions though.

One of the only things I think Break Bad has over this is that you can see the evolution of Walt White. Besides that Sopranos is more rewatchable. It also has elements you run into in daily life. 10 star show

I agree, if anything I feel like the show backs away from Tony and becomes more of a mob drama rather than a personal look at the private life of Tony Soprano.

@@trygswyrmwoodside3229not true at all what. We get more insight into Tony’s psychology as the series goes on. His relationships with his families and his bitterness are more fleshed out in the later seasons.
@Lazai2190
@Lazai2190 9 ай бұрын
Tony is more fleshed out than walter white though. We know more details about his life and psychology. BB was more primarily focused on how walt changes in relation to his willingness to kill/pride/family relationships but we don’t see his viewpoints about many things in life, and his psychology is one of escalation but not overall shading. Tony is more rounded out overall.

Hey Sally, I see you in every last reaction comments for Breaking Bad and BCS. I'm totally SHOCKED you have not seen Sopranos yet. If you have appreciation for top tier writing, acting, directing, etc...this is without a doubt one of the top shows ever created. I highly, HIGHLY recommend this show. I promise you, it will be in your top 5 at the very least. For me personally, it is in my top 3 with BB & BCS. It will also give you another all-time great show to watch reactions of.

@@sallyatticum Yes, you will definitely want to binge. My personal experience with Sopranos was that I didn't start watching until 2004. I remember it is all anyone talked about at work and in social settings. I had never watched til that point because I didn't have HBO + I was one of those who hate when shows or movies get overhyped and then I'm let down. I'm not gonna lie, it was one of those experiences I only had with BB and maybe 1 other TV show in my almost almost 50 years watching TV. Those are the only shows I started watching all over again immediately after finishing the series. Sorry for long text. Anyways, hopefully I will see your name in comments in future and you can tell me what you thought of experience and what you thought of the show. Also, there are a handful of shows I've watched in depth specials (for more content, extras, and other things) and enjoyed a lot too. There is a podcast called "Talkinf Sopranos" with 2 of the former cast members which is also a great watch and gives extra info and others perspectives on things, which I would also recommend if you end up really liking show. P.S. If you haven't seen the table read for S5 E9 "Blood Money", highly recommend that as well. It is here on KZbin.

You must not have been around when the show first aired. Post season 2, the show was constantly called out by certain fans for being too morose, too nihilistic, not mob focused enough, etc. The writers mostly ignored fan desires and made the show they wanted to. I feel that’s part of the reason this series has aged well and why it’s so great for rewatches. It continued to evolve and continued to challenge viewers throughout its whole run.

Sopranos actually did their research and heard from real mob figures on how to do the show. Breaking bad and better call saul are what entitled people imagine what the drug world is like.
