I love the down the field aspect of the offense paired with Brady's carefulness. Why throw the ball away short when you can throw the ball away 50yds down the field and maybe get a home run. I also want to see this offense get some YAC as this was the 31st ranked offense when it comes to YArds after contact.

When TB was 41, he was clocked throwing the football at 61mph. Guess who was only 1 mph faster than Brady... Patrick Mahomes at 62mph. Brady's arm is underrated. He is a more about accuracy and placement than forcing the ball into windows with strong throws, but at times Brady has fired the ball into very small windows for incredible passes.

If you watch the close up video, Gronk see Brady is in trouble with people getting open, and he can see the guy covering him is looking at Brady so he just changes his route and Brady knew what gronk was going to do both anticipated each other. Gronk route was corner, but the defender on his ass, so he changes route for inside, giving him huge separation because mindset of the defender was that gronk was going to corner fade. It the years working to each other, they know what each other thinking anticipating each other. Few years back when Brady was having trouble with his WR... he was saying if your waiting for a pass and not anticipating it your doing your job wrong something like that.

@@PSG1JOHN1 AB's TD was similar. He changed his route. There's a mic'd up vid where after that play on the sideline one of the coaches says, "I have no idea what route he ran their but it worked." I'm sure when the two of them were hanging at Brady's place (Tom kicked his family out 10 days before the game. I'm sure there was continuous film study between the two) they are micro analyzing everything. Remembering the Butler INT in the SB. When he was asked after the game what he was thinking he said, "Every time we ran that play this week in practice I got beat." "I was afraid of getting beat." Everyone credits Belichick with knowing every situation that's going to occur in a game and preparing his team, and rightfully so. I would imagine that after 20 years that stuff rubs off. I can fully expect that those two "improv" plays to Gronk and AB in those situations were talked about before hand. With Gronk it could be because they've played together so much. With AB I'll bet it was like, They call this play in the redzone and the defender has the out route covered, just break back over the middle and I'll hit you. I'll have to protect the ball so be ready for it to not be at your chest. I'm as certain as I can be without witnessing it that they had that conversation for that exact play in that area of the field.

I think on the Gronk throw what you are missing from your analysis is the chemistry between the two. When Brady comes back to Gronk in his read Gronk is covered pretty well but Gronk sees that the safety is looking into the backfield and isn’t watching him. As a result he knows he can uncover by changing his route. You see this when he throws up his left hand telling Brady that he is going to uncover by breaking his route. Instead of forcing a pass into coverage Brady see this, slightly recocks and fires the ball to a now open Gronk. Beautiful IQ by both Brady and Gronk on that play. Without that chemistry between the two I think Brady tries to fire one into the corner and see if his tight end can win the 50/50 ball.

He just makes such good decisions all the time. They look boring, they look easy. Many Patriots games I watch was just like this, 1-2-3, first down, then again, another first down. Very few down the field huge plays and heroic catches as ESPN play of the Day types. Then TD. It almost look mechanical. But he just picks you apart all day long.

i agree. I think that’s why the talking heads like to say he’s not the best. It’s because he makes decisions that make it look easy and effortless. He doesn’t overdo anything. He’s a thinker and it’s an “easy does it, let’s just keep moving” approach. He’s calm and focused and that spreads to the team and he plays with focus to the last minute. To him 2 minutes is a very long time and full of possibility. That’s why he’s so different from the others.

Those talking heads also don't see an added benefit of TB12's play-it allows the defense to rest. Imagine this: the defense just got a stop and there's 11 minutes of game time. TB12 enters the game, and eats up 6-8 of those minutes. Now not only does the opponent's offense have less time to work with, but the defense is going to be better rested, as well.

You are 100% correct. Being able to throw the ball a mile, being 6'5", and being able to run a 4.3 40 are abilities, not skills. The woods are absolutely full of players who can do those things, but most are busts at QB (just look at first-round picks from every draft). Coaches mistake the two all the time. QB relevant skills are being able to process information quickly, read a defense, throw accurately under pressure, and understand what's going on in front of you. Who can do those things? Manning, Brady, Brees, Matt Ryan, Phillip Rivers, for example. Who can't? Well, again, look at most QBs drafted in the first round every year. Of course, Aaron Rodgers can do it all, but he's a once-in-a-lifetime (maybe once ever) type of player.

I can remember a playoff game early in his career, it might have been the first SB vs. Philly, He hit a guy D-E-E-P. The defender pulled up and Brady put it over the top of him. When they were celebrating the receiver said, "He didn't think you could throw it that far." At one of the pro bowls Brady won the longest throw competition. It was really windy and the other QB's were struggling throwing it far and keeping it between the hashes. When the host gave Brady the ball he said to him, Now it has to land between the hashes." Brady said, "I don't think that's going to be a problem." This was after multiple throws by other pro bowl QB's failed to land between the hashes. It was a best of three throws. Brady was the last to throw. He threw it like 72 yards, which was the longest throw, dead center in the middle of the field to win it. The host told him he still had 2 more throws to see if he could better it. He was like, Nah, I won. I've been reading and hearing for years about his lack of arm talent. Really makes you wonder if these talking heads actually watch NFL games before they talk about them. Probably too busy watching the NBA.

(Or that was the first that I am aware of.) 2018 was the noodle arm year but the media started talking about him retiring in 2014 and was really crying out for it by 2018. Great analysis. It shows why Brady keeps getting better as he gets older, and why he still has more years left - because its his IQ that makes him a great player, and that keeps improving as he gets more experience even while his body may wear down. He will be hard to stop in Tampa with a number three receiver like AB, tight ends like Gronk, Brate, OJ, backs that can catch like Bernard and Fournette, a great line (with Gronk and Fournette who can block), and a great defense.

He's an amazing QB, he's got tremendous footwork and field IQ, whether if he's about to get sack in the pocket, pressured or under duress, Brady makes the correct decisions and perfectly execute them 99.9% of the time in my opinion. He rarely makes mistakes, managing the clock or going for it on 4th down in high stake situations. Brady is the G.O.A.T. equivalent to batting .700 in the NLB, awesome greatness 👏

At 2:42 even if you pause the video it's hard to see how close Brady's throw was to Gronk's adjustment, and how well placed the ball was for such a weird adjustment (a kind of post out of a corner). It seems this is something they planned for, but my goodness I've never seen that before while a play has just finished its development. No hesitation on the throw either, to me that's crazy.

Aaron Rogers is the best at finding the open receiver at hitting him with the football. Tom Brady is the best at processing everything correctly on the field as fast as possible. Kurt Warner was the best at hitting the receiver with the football in stride so that he could just keep sprinting. Peyton Manning was the best at the pre-snap read and calling the correct play or making the correct pre-snap adjustment to win the down. Joe Burrow is probably the best college QB at processing what the defense is doing. He also excels at moving the defense with his eyes. He is deadly accurate. He is also very mobile and doesn't lose that accuracy on the run.

In the SB Mahomes was pressured 32% of his throws (49 att). That means he wasn't pressured on 33 throws. Contrast that with Brady in the 2007 SB where Brady got hit on over 50% of his 48 pass attempts and was sacked 5 times in 8 possessions. Yet Brady was able to give his team a lead with under 3 minutes left, while Mahomes got blown out. That's the difference between a master and a circus performer.

I think that was the beginning of the end for Brady with Belichick. Brady was obviously pro Malcom Butler in that situation. I really think he blames Belichick and benching Butler for him not having another ring. Then he slowly started to lose talent and the guys that were being brought in weren't good enough. I mean when Chris Hogan is your go to outside receiver in the playoffs you know the talent level is down. And not picking on Hogan, he played great. But he's not the most skilled guy you can find.

@@godfather4377 I'm not going to argue about Belichick's success without Brady. It is what it is. But saying he's comparable to Jeff fisher is crazy. All you have to do is listen to what his players say about his preparation and teaching and you can tell his coaching ability. Personally I think Belichick is a "dinosaur" in his style. Without tom he's not going to get the modern NFL players to buy in. They care more about how they are spoken to than winning. All this "respect" talk you hear today drives me crazy. It's a tough sport, toughen up is my response. Tom Coughlin had the same type of issues.

@@Relayer6a Jeff Fischer is not a slouch. He was a good coach (I think this era has passed him by - probably). He's been to the Super Bowl and was close to winning it. So he was definitely not bad. He never had that guy at QB. McNair was the closest thing. Obviously I do think Belichick is better, especially his resume (obviously). But without Tom Brady what is Belichick's legacy? I do think they're at least comparable in terms of being defensive minded coaches who clearly are good at what they do. I think what separates the two is Belichick is more willing to adapt compared to Fischer. But Belichick is limited too. Heck, every head coach really is when you think of it. Andy Reid was labeled as the guy that couldn't "win the big game".. Which was silly, because he never had a Mahomes talent before. Coaches legacy is often going to be tied to the players they have. No one is going to argue Belichick clearly is a good on the defensive side of the ball. But if he doesn't have an offensive guy like Brady leading the helm, his entire legacy looks different is all. @@godfather4377 Neither are football gods with unrelenting powers. Fans and sports media have hyped and underrated both Brady and Belichick to the ground. People's failures to see the organizational dynamics that occur within a 53 roster sport with 10+ coordinators, coaches, etc on the sideline will always mistakenly believe Brady and Belichick are more than they are capable of and less than they actually do. Brady could not play with fans in the stands, he is probably the most demanding QB to play as a receiver for (in a good way). There's a reason he left. Also Belichick is more responsible for the talent on his team than any other coach given his GM responsibilities. What you say about coaches only controlling so much is true (reminds me of Schottenheimer and Marlon McCree). The opposite is also true however, especially for the NFL. Communication and game preparation was something that the Patriots did better than anyone. Add top notch conditioning, versatility, overall high football IQ, and a QB that could absorb and eventually master his understanding of different offensive and defensive schemes, then you have a large aspect of the Patriots offense between 2001-2020. No other team shifted their offensive philosophy week after week like the Patriots did, because they didn't have the capability to do so even if they had the QB who could handle it. Brady's dedication and mamba mentality paired with one the most cerebral football minds in this current generation of football are the biggest drivers of the success we've seen, but even that's not everything. There's much more to distinguish between jeff fischer and Belichick than just their win-loss record without Brady.

I think Brady's role in this SB is actually a bit underrated. His elite level of execution early on allowed the Bucs to get a lead that made it easier for the Bucs defense to tee off on Mahomes. It made it more difficult for the Chiefs to stay disciplined and run the football.

"Elite Arm" everyone focuses on how far a QB can throw - can he throw deep and because the ball is in the air for so long, the receiver has time to see the path of the ball and adjust to it and catch the ball and everyone applauds But an Elite Arm is about putting the ball exactly where the receiver can catch it without making much of an effort and that you see not in the deep throws but in the short & medium throws and that is where Brady excels

Let's say it how it is...he cares far more about winning than making his stats look good(hence why he will throw a ball deep up for grabs on third down, even if it can be intercepted...rather than taking a sack)...but he was Lights Out in the first half...but only threw 9 passes in the second half because the clock was their ally and winning the game by any margin is more important than making his stats look good so people say he won the game for his team...he could probably have had 300 yds and 5 td's...but there's also a chance that by doing that his defense has to be on the field longer and gives the Chiefs more opportunities to find a rhythm and make adjustments(which I'm stunned they never did with putting tight ends and rb's in to help protect)... winning is more important than having Rob Parker and Shannon Sharpe singing your praises on their fake debate shows

Eh he's more like a Captain than anything above that. Brady is a player, he's on the field making stuff happen, he's not drawing up the plays but he's the main dude driving the offensive scheme. Also the NBA can be highly intellectual. It's just different because it's a 5 on 5 sport that has much less stoppage. Less stoppage means more thinking on the fly, less of the deliberate chessboard strategy you see in football. So of course football is more complex given the nature of the sport (53 man rosters) and because it's a coach-centric sport that focuses more on sticking to the play call. In the NBA, players have much more freedom and much more control of all aspects of the game than even a QB does in the NFL. Doesn't mean it's harder/easier, it depends because it's just different.

The most ridiculous label that is given to Brady is "game manager". He controls the ball by methodically moving it down the field and lessening the opportunity for turnovers. The 2nd TD to Gronk illustrated that KC couldn't get to him. Game over. BTW, Fournette should have been MVP. He should've been in the game when the Bucs were stopped on the goal line, but I guess the backs were alternating series.

I think football is more of a chess game for quarterbacks, the players outside of it are just the pieces . And Tom Brady is a grandmaster . He knows the ins and outs of the defenses . He can see mismatches he keeps it simple . I don't think in terms of a goat since it's entertainment at its core. There are a lot of entertaining players, teams, and even eras. If you lived through the 40's it was a gang of rough ballers, then as the game got more refined it was others, and eventually as tactics, equipment, training, and even how players associated with fans created different "Goats" through time. There were even regional only goats especially early on in football history. Tom Brady obviously is exceptional, but it's just not the rings or on-field accolades, but his work ethic and point of view. He's a very focused person, and anyone can look up to that. Loved this video btw-breath of fresh air from what you usually see.
