Steam is also being challenged these days with the stores from Epic, Blizzard Activision, Ubisoft, EA etc. Look into what games are being streamed on Twitch - then count the ones of games that are on steam. A few years ago it'd be 80-90% of the top streams. Think it's about half now. Valve is a great company but not immune to the same pressures Netflix is facing

When Netflix was in it's prime, I heard from friends who pirated that they were hanging up their pirate hat because Netflix was cheap, easy to use, didn't have major viruses, and had everything they wanted to watch. Now that there's the competition of all these streaming services, these same friends have all taken their pirate hat and have hoisted the Jolly Roger once again because of the greed of companies. By trying to hog more money, companies made audiences move away from supporting the official release.

@apersonofthisworld63024 жыл бұрын
yeah, honestly it's only the law that keeps these companies alive. Makes you wonder if pirating content should be illegal in the first place. If it weren't for the law, pirating could have prevented services from becoming so expensive as well as help unify communities rather than chopping them up into pieces. Imagine if it was legal to pirate a minimal amount of shows from a subscription service. Or better yet, make it illegal to monetize someones work. Imagine if you could go to a store and give the store money while refusing to allow the money to go directly to corporate. It would force corporate organizations to make sure that their chains are happy. It would decease the amount of people being taken advantage of. Legally allowing for companies to split apart if they wanted to and all contracts would split as well. Sadly, something like this would never happen, not while there are juggernauts around. The world will have to fall first before anything can happen. There are just to many giant machines that carry too many peoples livelihoods around with them. Taking one down would put to many people at risk. Imagine if you could literally thanos snap a company into oblivion. But that's not the case, companies are designed to stay on their last legs even if all the supports are cracking and hurting those who live in those legs. Only then to get eaten by a bigger company. I guess that's what I like about KZbin. Despite how it is constantly shaking up it's community it still manages to protect those who reside in it from the jaws off the gaping companies that walk along this earth. well, at least until music companies saw KZbin and started mercilessly attacking the cage that is KZbin like giant vultures trying to get as much as they can get. Maybe that's the sacrifice that is made by allowing for people to join and leave KZbin freely at there leisure. But if the doors were closed and the cage walls were sealed, then it would become just another tin can walking on the earth. The smaller the entrance the faster it can die on the inside. I guess I really went off here 😅

aperson ofthisworld Actually KZbin is one of the company’s gaping mass, it’s just in their best interest to protect their source of income, I.e. us, though it will not hesitate to throw us under the bus when it means to protect its profits, the music companies the shark shaking the cage more like wolves who would like to poach the Shepherd’s(KZbin) flock(US) But in the end the Shepherd still vaule itself more than its sheeps As for Piracy, those laws were made before the internet when you have to make physical copies with actual costs in printing and distribution, where people have to get people to pay to make profit, The Companies are just good at finding loopholes and technicalities they can take advantage of, and lots of money to keep the law as it is. And nothing short of a revolution will fix that. And the thing wrong with this is that cable comes in bundles because of limitations of the tech, streaming service do that because of they chose to

Simple but unexpected answer: apple. Whoever creates the bundle, no matter the cost wins. The fact that you can search for your favorite show and watch it in an ipad/iphone app is huge. Netflix will charge 40 usd at some point, as will disney and probably some others and you will have the same thing as the cable prices. But everyone will pay the base price for the bundle and get apple. There is another huge problem. Advertisment. At some point the huge companies need a way to dizzle dazzle you on another platform, when cable is dead. But non synchronous streamers will never create news, will never create those trashy cheap throw away shows that only air once and then are obsolete, which are perfect for advertisment. The question is: Who will eat the advertisment cake in 30 years?

License exclusivity (coughmonopolycough) is what allowed the streaming companies to lose focus on quality and convenience for customers. The focus is now on the licenses the service owns rather than the service itself. Similarly, Paramount Pictures did the same thing in the movie theater business to stifle competition, making it to where only Paramount movies were allowed to be shown at Paramount theaters. The Supreme Court found this to go against the United States Antitrust laws. Kind of interesting, I’m my opinion, that we live in an era where history is repeating itself, but instead of production companies owning theaters, they own services. Also makes sense as to why piracy is so rampant, lol yaaaaarrrgh
@aidschbe4 жыл бұрын
Video games went through the same thing as well, first lots of piracy until a convenient service popped up (Steam), which went ok for a while until the market split back up again across several services, which caused a rise in piracy again and now some companies are trying to go cross-plattform again. 'Round and 'round we go.
@alterinam67914 жыл бұрын

@8is4 жыл бұрын
Well, the problem is that these companies are not competing, they don't try because they can't. But we wouldn't get the same amount of content as we do now if producers didn't have exclusive rights to their productions. It wouldn't be viable investments. So it's kinda an unsolvable problem. Whatever you do you destroying the little we have. It seems to me that we just have to bite the bullet and accept reality.

You’re forgetting something that is a huge deal in this war: Piracy. Since a lot of this big streaming services have one big original series like “the boys” or “the mandalorian” u can just bootleg them and then continue on with your Netflix subscription, if u just want to watch one show out of the plataform I’m sure a lot of people will turn to piracy instead of subscribing to a whole new plataform Edit: lol i dont want to be "that guy" but ive never gotten so many likes in anything ever so thanks i guess

Cost saving tip: Only have one or two streaming services per month, and cycle through the different ones to watch the shows you want to see or catch up on. Organize yo self. Pay attention to release dates of shows on your favorite streaming services and subscribe during those times to stay relevant on current releases. It's not like the streaming services have any kind of contract. Save money by rotating through them. Remember when this was predicted when we lost net neutrality? (packaging content through the internet and paying a package to access certain websites) Yet no one realized its already started, just not with websites but our shows. What's next? I'll tell you. Services dedicated to putting multiple streaming services in one package for a "lower price" then to individually subscribe to those said streaming services. Calling it right now. Edit: sees Matpat bringing up bundles in the video as I wrote this comment. Welp at least I'm on the same wavelength in predicting where this was going
@Cessquatch4 жыл бұрын
this is kind of just off the top of my head so i could be wrong but while im pro net neutrality and im sad to see it eroded i dont think this has anything to do with it. website holders have always had the freedom to make thier original content exclusive and whatnot, its actually your ISP that benifits from no net neutrality cause then they can treat the actual websites like cable TV. so netflix/disney/hulu/whatever can do whatever they want on thier site but maybe Telstra or iinet might say well if you wanna access that site at full speed you need to pay us more TLDR net neutrality is more about the middleman(ISP) rather than the indivual websites and apps

I took a class in grad school called Streaming and Digital Technologies that was taught at the Hulu headquarters. I kept saying that the market is becoming too saturated with all the streaming platforms. But every industry professional I talked to about it just didn’t see this being a problem for the consumer! It really is becoming just like cable all over again and I’ve been complaining into the void about it for years! It’s nice to know other people feel the same way. It just goes to show what a large gap there is between what media producers think consumers want and what we actually want

Wealthy industry leaders thinking everyone can afford multiple streaming services.... why am I not surprised

In reality the gap is between media producers desire for profit and consumers desire for convenience.

man this gives me a whole new perspective on business. how one company's unique traits and strengths can get it thrive/dominate the landscape of business. apart from the customer and user availability of course.

I feel like if anything it's actually just giving other companies reasons to start streaming services, like Paramount+ Disney+ has created its own competition.
