It should be mentioned that, for quite a long time, the Komodo dragon’s deadly bite was actually quite a mystery. The inside of the lizard’s mouth is so full of dangerous bacteria and stuff that we couldn’t tell if it was the venom or illness that was deadlier and thus the true power of their bite. It was only relatively recently that we gained the technology to look into their venom better and discover that, although the germs in the Komodo dragon’s mouth are certainly strong enough to cause fatal illness, the venom is much worse.

I can remember the days when nature channels worked on the theory that it was the bacteria in a Komodo dragon's mouth that slowly killed the animals, and they just followed it around until it was unable to walk. It's so much fun seeing the advancements in knowledge and understanding happening within such a small period of time

That isn't to say that he has zero creative input or can't change things or that he doesn't work hard, but that he isn't researching, writing, recording, editing *all* the videos that come out by himself in a wardrobe

HTTYD actually acknowledges the gas build up into fire breath as something dragons do. In the first movie, after hiccup and Toothless fly for the first time, a type of dragon called terrible terrors start to spit fire at toothless by building up gas into their mouth. But tootless shoots a small spark into the mouth before the dragon is ready, causing the gas to explode in the dragon's mouth. They show that because it sets up the ending of the final battle, where hiccup and toothless use the same trick to beat the red death (the big bad dragon).

This video topic is actually something I've thought about for a few months for a personal project of mine. The way I've been rationalizing the Bewilderbeast's ice attack is by using super cooled pure water, like those videos of freezing cold bottles of liquid water flash freezing when they get hit. I had imagined their biology could filter out particles from the water (which they could use for nutrition to help get so big like a whale) and then store that pure water in an organ somewhere to be spat out later. Them being a tidal class dragon might also help with this as having the water all around them could help cushion the super cooled water and keep it from freezing inside them. They could potentially control the amount of water they release too to give a little puff of water that would freeze into ice crystals in the air almost like snow like we see with Hicup and Valka

My favourite part of the dragon breathes in HTTYD is how even dragons of the same breath type produce it different. A Nadder has a fire breath that looks like a large volume of sparks while a Nightmare has a typical flame breathe.

Not many of the dragons from the movie are actually in the books, (which I prefer) but I would love to see a monstrous nightmare in the books, just l would love to see an actual small toothless in the movies. (Toothless is a seadragonus giganticus maximus at a very young age, and seadragonus are tiny when they are young, tiny when they are old, and ABSOLUTELY giant when in the prime of their life).

I feel like lightning breath would be less of a single beam of lightning since, like matpat said, the dragon wouldnt have the ability to alter your charge, just it's own but to such a degree that it would be more like lightning everywhere randomly, trading electrons with literally anything and everything it could.

I sometimes like to write down some fantasy dragons just for fun, maybe sprinkle in some science but it’s still just a quick pastime. I recently wrote down about a dragon that first sprays its victim with copper dust (again, just a hobby lol) and THEN throws electric charges at them. Basically just ensuring that at least some shock reaches their prey.

Along with the diversity of dragons in the HTTYD franchise, I also love the little quirks of behavior and biology in each dragon, like how all dragons have a limited amount of fire they can spew before they run out, how small dragons like to chase lights much like a cat chasing a laser, or how dragons can combust internally if the gas in their mouth is ignited before they're ready to fire.

One interesting thing is that the franchise acknolges that the different dragons have their breath attacks as different chemical reactions such as toothless shoots an oxygen based plasma ball, the monsterous nightmare lights a gel based secreation, and the nadder has a magnesseum based flame

Hi MatPat. Great video from the whole team as usual, I love Dragons too. Something to add about fire dragons, in the movie Reign of Fire starring Christian Bale and Matthew McConaughey. The dragons in that movie have very detailed biological details that explain how they breathe fire. In their necks, they have two glands that produce different chemicals. They then spit the two chemicals out at the same time. And when it combines and gets exposed to the air, it ignites forming napalm. I always loved the dragons in Reign of Fire, and the way they were designed. If you guys on the channel haven't seen it yet. I recommend it. It's in my opinion, very underrated. In regards to the Electric attacks, I like the way that Monster Hunter handles it for the elder dragon Namielle. Namielle uses electric attacks by generating electricity through its skin but it hits it long distance by covering its surroundings in a highly conductive liquid it secretes. It can then charge its electricity through the liquid to shock anything and everything in the liquid.

Baby komodo dragons spend their young lives in trees until they get larger! Adults would make an easy snack of them and the adults are usually to heavy to get up into the branches the babys sit on

It is a cool decision that the Zippleback’s two heads serve a fire breathing purpose, one breathes flammable gas (probably methane) while the other uses it’s teeth to create a spark and ignite the gas

10:18 except the stunning effect is caused by more than just the sound waves, and the deadliness is caused by the rapid movement in water which causes a superheated pocket of space that instantly collapses in on itself, which requires the shrimp be in water to produce such effects as air is not dense enough.

i absolutely adore the httyd worldbuilding. maybe next httyd episode you can talk about their abilities! like how the light fury can camoflauge with their plasma blasts and how the skrill can cover itself in lightning. also maybe some details about the slitherwing dragon! its scales are coated in a poison and id love to see a deep dive into what is actually in this poison.

4:55 you also just solved how the Guardians attack in Legend of Zelda, there is a laser that targets the enemy, the laser then fires, which can be made of electricity, which is why it is blue. But you could do a theory about what a guardian uses to attack Link and how it gets the purple lights to appear all over it. Not only that, but also how the guardian loses it's legs, then it loses it's ability to attack.

There are some things from the Race to The Edge series which I would love to see theories about such as: death song' amber attack or how deadly Naders actually use Magnesium, Slither wings constant venom production or the frightmare's fear attack, how gronkles can survive eating only rocks or how the eruptedons can survive on only eating lava, how the submeripper can create whirlpools ond how gronkle steel is made or Razorwhip's metal skin, how the smothering smoke breath can attack and disguise itself with smoke, how the Sandbuster can make glass or sentinel can become statues, how the buffolord can rapidly expand how the shadow wing are so dimorphic and how dramillon can use any breath attack they see
