Set in the 1970s,"Late Night with the Devil" merges the genres of possession horror and late-night television, delivering a gradually intensifying narrative that culminates in a chilling climax. Directed by brothers Cameron and Colin Cairnes, the film features David Dastmalchian as Jack Delroy, a late-night talk show host striving to rival the likes of Johnny Carson.
"Night Owls," Jack's syndicated program, has been a staple for night-time viewers across the nation. However, following the tragic death of his wife, the show's ratings have sharply declined. In a bid to salvage his career, Jack organizes an unprecedented Halloween special.
This broadcast features an eclectic lineup: a medium, a professional skeptic, a parapsychologist, and a survivor of a satanic cult, all of whom are oblivious to the malevolence that’s about to be unleashed upon unsuspecting viewers. Throughout the film, Jack's personal tragedies are gradually uncovered, shedding light on his desperate quest for a return to prominence. The tension escalates with each eerie incident, keeping the audience riveted and anxious, until we reach a harrowing and irreversible crescendo.

To me, this movie was a breath of fresh air. I feel like I'm drowning in horror movies funded by huge studios that all feel the same. It feels like everything nowadays is a prequel/sequel, reboot, or just an unoriginal mess with cheap jumpscares and overused CGI. This movie had a good mix of CGI and practical work, and even though some effects didn't look great, I can appreciate the work they did with what they had.

@@seanjdempseyThis. The association with Moloch came about after details of the child-sized effigy burning were leaked, when people started drawing parallels between Moloch related child sacrifice and the Grove ritual. I’m not saying the Grove isn’t weird af or bad in itself, but afaik there’s no historic link between Moloch and owls, or even strong evidence the Grove worships Moloch. I feel like if anything, the Grove just worships itself.

this movie is amazing for a lot of reasons. the girl who played Lily gave a wonderfully creepy and unsettling performance. The guy who played the medium transitioned perfectly from slimey manipulation to genuine terror and shock. and what the hell was up with the guy in the skeleton suit!? that guy is up to no good! why is he in all the key shots? and why is he so completely and totally unmoved by all the horror around him? its such fun to speculate.

It's a great point about an Alternative version of the 70's, familiar yet different. I've only recently got into watching horror and I actually watched this at the cinema. Although I'm glad I saw it with others, someone else I follow made a great point that the format lends itself to home viewing on a TV to make it more meta, if that is the right term. Some of my favourite movies have had strong horror elements, and even though my experience with pure horror is still limited, this felt unique and very immersive. My only issue was with the energy special effects as they looked worse than what can be achieved now, and yet better than what a a 70's camera could have captured. In essence, they were out of time.

It's funny cuz I always felt that kinda energy surrounding them too... especially the ones that aired in the 80s and early early 90s... I remember living in a city called rialto in California... And we had a public access studio/ building that was in our cities industrial/ commerce part of the city ... And id always make a note of it . Then I'd watch the WALLY GEORGE SHOW on a channel called KDOC... And the wally George show was WILLDDDD... It was like the Morton downey jr. Show and jerry Springer before those shows were a thing . And he'd do stuff like this all the time and bring Satanist and just odd people on to debate religious groups ... And because Wally was conservative he'd always end up yelling at the people opposing religion and the studio would always turn into chaos. It wasn't necessarily scary to me as a kid... It was just ODD. I was way too young to understand the parodic kinda dark humor of the show...and the fact it was all a SHOW and that wally was a character acting. So yea like I said it was always a little off putting whenever id think of it... Anyways the show was taped at a public access studio called KDOC.. and the logo would always be on display in the corner during the show..and because id always pass that one public access studio we had in our city on our way to get on the freeway Everytime we'd have to leave out of town somewhere.. KNOWING THAT BUILDING WAS THERE would always spook me too...cuz to me it was synonymous with all the confusion imagery the show would put in my 7/8 year old brain. And ya... So to add on to your thought OP.. I definitely always felt the same way

Personally, I thought that the very end scene indicated that Jack knew how to perform the hypnosis himself - albeit perhaps he lost control of it? We only hear it one other time with Carmichael. It makes me wonder - was his agenda to use the same hypnosis trick that Carmichael showed, but on a bigger scale? Perhaps mastery of that power was what he gained from the Tall Trees, but just couldn't use it effectively. Imagine if he used that skill to help kill his wife and pass it off as cancer, all in hopes of using the tragedy for ratings?

The only part that actually spooked me was big face Lily. That was just freaky. Also i didnt know it showed up during the seance until seeing this video, so now im even more disturbed that i didnt notice the first time.

Giving the name *"Lilly"* to the girl who winds up possessed by a demon is so blatantly on the nose, my face hurts.

Not sure if it's an age thing, I'm 50, a lot of my friends are my age or mid 50s, and we all loved it. It was a basic spooky story, not over the top and not trying to be something it's not. It stays in its lane. All the cast were spot on and the production well thought out... Harking back to the 70s/early 80s. By contrast my younger friends, they thought it was boring and expected more.

RIP James Randi. The obvious inspiration for the skeptic and his confrontations with Uri Geller Edit: I'm glad he mentioned it in the video.

Would really love to see you take on the Hellsing Ultimate anime/manga for a analysis on the characters in it. it is by far one of the best ensemble of some great multifaceted characters, the consequences of power at the cost of the soul, and the depths which humanity will go to combat evil. aided by arguably one of the best soundtracks for an anime I've ever heard.

In my opinion, the last 5 min ruined the movie for me. Rather it be ambiguous then totally explained.

I kinda agree with you. They totally had me throughout. But they jumped the shark and nuked the fridge at the end. A quick, "What the hell just happened", ending that leaves you guessing would have been so much better.

Other then David..there where many child actors after the Excorst like ... Linda Blair as Regan..who tried to ... replicate possession movies Ingrid Torelli who played Lilly was the MVP of the film ...needs great recognition as well! Even before she was she went full on possessed ..When she came out on stage...She made many feel on edge all through her unforgettable performance!!!

I felt like this movie was gonna be all hype and be meh like Talk To Me. I didn’t want to spend $15 to rent on Amazon but based on this I guess I’ll give it a go.
