Stuff we use:
CAMERA - This is the camera we have used to film 90+% of our interviews (over 200 interviews and counting) It continues to be our workhorse - amzn.to/2u66V1J
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/2t1n2hx
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv
COMPUTER - Our favorite computer, we each have one and have used various models since 2010 - amzn.to/2t1M67Z
EDITING - We upgraded our editing suite this year and we’re glad we did! This has improved our workflow and the quality of our work. Having new software also helps when we have a problem, it’s easy to search and find a solution - goo.gl/56LnpM

Hearing Dar speak about feminine energy as it pertains to performance art was a revelation because as a man you're almost made to not be expressive in any form. Anytime you're with your male friends and you try to open up about your feelings, they quickly switch to another topic, but with women they love talking about their feelings which is why they love it when we open up to them. With performance art, expressing yourself is 100% necessary because it's what the art form is all about.

regardless of gender, I think every person ought to strike a balance between resisting and yielding to feelings. lots of people think being strong means sheerly brute-force resisting your way through life, which is why they become repressed and messed up.

"Life as Performance Art" was THE central tenet of Beat and Hippy culture, all of which has been fully marginalized & scrubbed (by design) from our daily corporate-generated popmedia acid-bath. Dar's recent embrace of this idea seem genuine- it's rare for an establishment actor to wander willingly off the prescribed LA path, but the riches on the roadside can be life-enhancing.

I feel like I'm there listening. What a great interview! As an actor myself, and even as a human being, I got so much insight from Dar's stories!

The man's glorious mane. The man's glorious outlook. The world needs a whole load more people who are on their own track, as opposed to the one we're CONSTANTLY told we should be on.

On his father in-law's tombstone was "I Tried"...powerful stuff! Even when he expressed that he's just trying to do his best, not necessarily fill his shoes. The "nah man, you ain't white" part was hilarious too 😂. I love seeing how people break down barriers.👍

This was a tough one for me. He spoke of many things that I lack context for. I'm not saying that I can't relate, but I don't know who the unnamed people are that he is indirectly referring to. What I did relate to was growing hair. My last haircut was nearly three years ago. I have a host of reasons why I did it, but the one that I think most people watching this channel would care about is it is a test. Seeing which relatives freak out over my hair gives me a hint as to who will freak out over my being a scriptwriter. It might not be a one-to-one correlation, but someone who can't accept a simple change that can be "fixed" at a Great Clips, probably can't accept a life altering one. One day I will sell a script that will be produced, at which point everyone will know, but until that day, people who can't deal with a few inches of hair won't be part of this journey.

Fascinating comment Lon. What you wrote about your hair could probably be used in a story somewhere.

🤓Women are nurturing by nature. Men are not. But there’s always exceptions. Men can still care, obviously, but it’s in our biology to be nurturing as women. Our brain is wired differently. - The cool thing is how we can use that in our professional life as actors, directors, writers and so on. The difference between men and women is so interesting, the different dynamics, the different outlooks on life... so fascinating! 😊
