Godzilla: King of the Monsters is yet another big blockbuster flop of the year 2019, even with everyone's favorite Millie Bobbie Brown at the front. And that's actually sad to hear, because this movie is the perfect example of how to properly make these massive Hollywood monster creature movies. In today's family friendly PG episode of KZbin's favorite show Film Perfection, let's see how Godzilla 2 handles its ancient titan monsters and ties them into its human characters, in a way that results in one unified experience.
Now I just need a movie about that Leviathan titan monster, Titanus Leviathan or whatever.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)
Co-writer/director Michael Dougherty’s monster film is a sequel to the 2014 Hollywood reboot of the Godzilla franchise. When several ancient titans simultaneously emerge and begin to battle each other for supremacy, humanity desperately turns to Godzilla King of the Monsters watch full movie online free Godzilla 2 King of the Monsters honest trailer cinemasins everything wrong with Godzilla King of the Monsters blu-ray clip 4k hd as their one and only hope. The film’s international cast includes Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Sally Hawkins, Ken Watanabe, and Ziyi Zhang.
Following the global success of “Godzilla” and “Kong: Skull Island” comes the next chapter in Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ cinematic MonsterVerse, an epic action adventure that pits Godzilla against some of the most popular monsters in pop culture history. The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species-thought to be mere myths-rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.

Captain America: Civil War (2016)
In this superhero epic, the denizens of the Marvel Universe are forced to pick sides when Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) come to blows over ideological differences. After a mission involving a new Avengers squad led by Cap ends with several civilian casualties in Lagos, the team are asked to sign an agreement that would force them to take orders from a United Nations panel. Tony Stark (aka Iron Man) pressures Cap to accept this new arrangement, in part because he feels deeply guilty about his own past recklessness; Captain America, however, fears that the Avengers will only be corrupted by bureaucracy. Their disagreement eventually escalates into all-out war when Cap's old friend Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), now a brainwashed assassin known as the Winter Soldier, reenters the picture. Captain America: Civil War brings back former Avengers characters such as Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), War Machine (Don Cheadle), Falcon (Anthony Mackie), and Vision (Paul Bettany); it also drags into the fray low-rent superhero Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), and introduces both the powerful African prince Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and a new, younger incarnation of Spider-Man (Tom Holland). Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo.

@@UnfoundFilms I'm uncertain whether Godzilla: King of the Monsters broke even. Marketing makes up a significant hidden cost that isn't counted as part of the production budget, and theatres get a sizeable cut from ticket sales. The general (very rough) rule of thumb the gross required for a blockbuster to break even is 2.5x production budget, which for KOTM's $170 million budget calculates to $425 million, as compared to the actual gross of $386 million.

Actually itwould only be a 'flop' when looking at the domestic 'Western' box office separately, and exclude China - and technically, even then it's not a flop. Also, in general, looking at a piece of (whichever) art and judge its quality by money only is kind of besides the point of art in itself.

I heard so much shit about how bad the characters are and, to be honest, for a Godzilla movie, they're not awful. Nothing amazing, they're there to give exposition and move the plot, but...that's kinda the point. The old, Showa Era Godzilla movies sometimes have Godzilla just at the end of the movie, and the rest is some boring human side story, and nobody complains about those? Like Destroy All Monsters promotes itself as a "big monster fight" with all the Godzilla monsters that were introduced at the time, when really it was just a fight at the very end of the movie with something like 5 monsters that actually did something, the rest was a boring human vs alien plot. Same with Ghidorah the Tree Headed Monster and Godzilla vs Gigan (this one is even worse because when you finally get to the battle, 3/4 of said battle is stock footage from previous movies). As far as Godzilla movies goes, King of the Monster is a very solid entry in the franchise

One thing to remember though is Toho Godzilla movies as loved as they may be are still B movies. Part of the reason they use so much stock footage is to reduce costs. Even with King of the Monsters being a flop by US movies standards it is still the second highest grossing Godzilla movie of all time. In fact all three US Godzilla movies far exceed anything Toho has produced. A thought that is kind of amazing really. Were Godzilla a US franchise it would have died off with the first movie long forgotten.

That's not true. Flop is measured against production budget. If you make a film like Dark Fate with a $400 million break even point it has to bring in a shit load just to break even. So despite making $260 million worldwide, it still lost $130 million so it's a flop. Now I don't think KOTM falls into the flop category, but I think it's very fair to say it was a box office disappointment. Especially compared to the take of Godzilla 2014.

Then at the end, the little girl is able to sneak around a the military base, steal their most important device that was just sitting there unguarded, and then sneak out completely undetected so the plot can advance. The mother gets a redemption moment even tho she literally tried to cause a global genocide. Half the dialogue was cringe and the other half was exposition. The only thing it had going for it was the visuals. There is more wrong with the movie but that's just what I can recall in the moment. I can understand this view and may be a flaw in the film, but I think there are a couple reasons why this is a part of the movie. For one, this is a call-back to the original Toho films. The human elements of those films are light at best. This is consistent throughout those early films. Another reason may be what Filmento touched on. The parallel of the goals between the humans and monsters. It seems at times like the same thing is being done because the paths being walked are the same to show a connection between the monsters and humans. creates a subtle redundancy that while not perceived at face value is noticeable in reflection and dissection. Might be something that is not advisable in hindsight, but hindsight is 20/20.

Thank you so much for this video. People see Godzilla and think "oh it's just a dumb monster movie. I think I'll pass," but line up in flocks to see the next super hero blockbuster. Godzilla movies have always had the underlying themes of humanity and nature that made me fall in love with the franchise, and this film is no exception. I'm glad that someone was able to express the same viewpoint I have with Godzilla: Kind of the Monsters, and I hope more people understand the true intentions Mike Dougherty had when he made this. The characters are just a little dumb, but they didn't even bother me, I even liked many of them, I know a Kaiju fan who is a favorite scene from the movie was human. Now, the fact that characters don't have the best participation doesn't mean the movie is trash because of it, after all, IT'S A MONSTER MOVIE. I can see where the critics were coming from but the fact is, Godzilla movies where he is the anti hero are just going to be different in narrative, pacing, story, characters, ect. because we have a protagonist that doesn't talk and can only mostly interact with other monster characters that don't talk. So we have to have a human story mostly apart from Godzilla. Unlike the original were it's strictly man vs. nature with Godzilla as the nature side. bad timing. It should've come after marvel's collapse, i.e, endgame.

A great analysis! I thought these kinds of things too, albeit less eloquently than expressed in this video. It's as Dougherty described: a monster opera. It's an epic in the classical sense about Titans and Humans, both monsters, showing parallels and having to deal with one another in a brave new world.

MovieBlocks Productions A.K. just because these movies weren’t masterpieces doesn’t change that godzilla vs kong is a big movie event. Godzilla and King Kong both have more history and have been around longer than all of the avengers. Endgame only works cause it had 22 movies that came before it. Godzilla vs Kong only has 3 movies that came before it thus it had less to build of from.

Finally, a good video talking about what I felt and thought when I saw it. It's not perfect; not only did the finale sort of favor the Monsters, but throughout the movie the writing on the human story could have been trimmed in some places for character relationships to be strengthened in their place. However, I found the human story pretty compelling, with most of the characters likeable and understandable. The movie was far better than the critical and financial flak it received, both as a Godzilla movie and as a large-scale monster flick as a whole.

Great video, you nailed it. I'm glad more filmmakers are recognizing the genius of this film. The filmmakers really put the effort into making this the best movie across all aspects and it shows. One of the main reasons why the Monsterverse has been very consistent because they have artists that are big fans as well as fully understand the property they are making a movie on. And that will 90% of the time will always become a win.

This is the reason why I love this movie more than any other in this verse. This movie had heart and stakes that felt real and high. Look at GvK, it was just visual fest with no heart. Human side in GvK felt soo bad and left out. This is the real King of Monsterverse! Period!!

Sometimes i feel like people who arent godzilla fans dont exactly see the sheer passion behind this film that makes it so great to alot of fans, like if your a fan you can probably tell that its made by people who love godzilla that wanted to create the godzilla movie that dreams were made of, and general audiences seem to miss this

This movie was unfairly blasted by critics because other massive movies came out that year like, rise of skywalker, endgame, toy story 4, the lion king ect. Not saying their all good *ahem rise of skywalker* but it was a big movie and king of the monsters kinda got overshadowed

I enjoyed this movie. An improvement over the last one (2014) But not by much. More monsters and more screen time for them Great! But this movie still suffer from the same things the last movie suffered from. To much focus on the humans. This wouldn't be a problem if the humans were interesting but they are not. One thing that really annoyed me were in the final battle where the monsters were fighting IN THE BACKGROUND while the humans are the main focus.
