I think you said it best. The Baymovies aren’t designed to be Oscar-worthy Masterpieces, they’re made to be entertaining. Why does Ironhide shoot his canons to the floor and fly over a screaming woman in slow motion instead of just running? Because it’s awesome! Also, Transformers 2007 *was* nominated for Best Visual Effects at the Oscars, but lost to the Polar Bear movie. Which is ironic because the Polar Bear movie’s VFX have started to look dated now, but Transformers still looks friggin’ flawless.

I will never forget seeing this in theaters day ONE July 2007. Theater full of adults and kids, and the theater ERUPTED into applause at LEAST three very specific times in the movie. One was when Optimus had his opening speech. The second time was during Arrival to Earth. And the third time was when Prime arrives at the battlefield transforming and as he does the pose he says "Megatron". As someone who is a total film nerd, I am in love with the technical aspects of this movie. And the impact the technical prowess these films had on the movie industry cannot be understated. The transforming sound from these films, is still used TO THIS DAY in not just Transformers media (TF Prime and TF One for example take sound cues from this film) but The Avengers 2012's sound design took inspiration from this movie. You can say whatever you want about the Bayverse films, but the fact of the matter is that the franchise as a WHOLE would NOT be as popular as it is without these films. The first movie WAS made with a level of love and care and dedication to the franchise that wasn't really seen in the sequels; the blend of practical effects and CGI was absolutely top notch. The score from Steve Jablonsky in EVERY Transformers film was absolutely god tier. I can't in good conscious totally discredit the first film, because you can see for yourselves they tried. There was effort here. As long as there is EFFORT into a film or TV show, as long as it can provide a good time, leave you satisfied...I'm not gonna get totally mad at it existing.

I actually think it ties in nicely; when he's talking about mixing the known with unknown. With Blackout, he's an unknown attacking something familiar. With Barricade it's especially fitting into Bay's style of ironic screenplay cause it's an unknown, an unfriendly doing something familiar. Overhated? If you mean during production where g1 fans complained about the robots not being accurate sure, but after that the films I never heard people complain nor hate TF1.
@dkkanofkash87982 ай бұрын
@@tavinprice2310 Most fans who complain about the Bayverse complain about the sequels to TF2007. AOE and TLK get hit with criticism the most, and ROTF and DOTM come under less fire. However, the majority of those fans agree that the first Bayverse film was decent-to-good, so I don't get where you got the idea that it's overhated. Like, people criticize it, sure, because it's not a perfect film, but it's still a good movie, and many people agree it is. It's starting with ROTF an onwards that all the hate and criticism exists and is justified.

Man, I remember this film. Back when Megatron was enough to get the Autobots panicking whenever he entered the area or was mentioned, and back when it took the combined efforts of both the humans and Autobots to kill a single Decepticon.

Hot take but AOE was still decent and continued the story after DOTM quite well. Sadly, TLK threw everything down the drain with its endless plot holes and retcons. It's tragic how the Bayverse ended and got rebooted just because Paramount got greedy and chose to stuff 3 Transformers movies into one instead of delivering them individually, allowing the story to naturally continue and grow.
@spirz45572 ай бұрын
@@dkkanofkash8798 Bay wanted to end the franchise with DOTM. In the comics there's an alt ending where Megatron and Optimus make a truce and leave to rebuild Cybertron. Unfortunately, Paramount got greedy like you said. Bay was forced to change the ending and gave them two other movies.

Michael Bays Haters are the most annoying and insufferable part of the Transformers Fandom. There are people who keep talking shit about Bay and blaming him for the new movies not doing well in the Box Office even though he stopped directing Transformers movies Several years ago

lol this is what the internet has created. echo chambers of people who live in another reality and are convinced they are the majority, so when their movie/political candidate fails, they cry injustice and need to find reasons to make sense of it, be it bad marketing, brand reputation, michael bay pulling the strings etc. the same morons plague the Alien franchise, replace Michael Bay by Ridley Scott.

Your intro and the first 5 minutes really hammered on the idea of "what we mock is what we like" and it reminded me of an interview with one of the producers of Seinfeld or Raymond where they defended their use of the Laugh Track. While focus-grouping the pilot episodes they had the viewers hold a dial mentioning their enjoyment of the episode, as well as have a written review following their viewings. While the show without the laugh track was *rated* higher, it turns out the show with the laugh track was *measured* as higher enjoyment. Now I cannot track down which show it was so this may be an Urban Legend by now but it's believable enough. I think what happens here is people hate it when they find out they're being manipulated. When people watch more media and become more media literate, they figure out that the laugh track is supposed to simulate "your peers laughing" like the Live Studio Audience (which half the time were PROMPTED to laugh by stage crew). When audiences feel the tugs of "this is familiar to you so you will accept it more" or blatant product placement, they will roll their eyes and mock it. The thing about mockery is it becomes picked up by sketch shows and is lampooned into either meme status or becomes worse than the original offense. Michael Bay movies are *the reason* people mock Product Placement. The irony is Transformers as a media was made to sell STUFF so it's fun to see a "commercial product media" to have so many product placements in it. Movies with a ton of placement like this give wannabe critics something to say about the movie, it makes them stand out in the conversations.
