At 63 I was very self-conscious when I started but then realized that most people really could care less what you are doing. It is super hard being older and doing video, but I just keep telling myself that no one really cares. I feel like this day and age it is really pretty.normal to see someone doing video in public. I also think it is a young person's game but hey I am young at heart😂 The best advice I got for you is just do it and realize even if some one is watching you who cares. Chances are you will never see that person again anyway.

This hits it on the head. Nobody cares what are doing and even though it might feel like everyone is looking at you, they aren't. You just aren't that important ;-) Seriously...just do it and don't worry about any attention you might draw. Think about it this way - if you saw someone else in a store filming with a little camera like that, you might think about it for a second and then you will go on with what you are doing and not give it a second thought.

@WatchingtheWorldBurning9 ай бұрын
I'm 59. Older people generally aren't happy with filming in public because it seems narcissistic and invasive. The only way to overcome this feeling, if you want to, is to push on through the comfort zone. Of course, some people are more shameless than others... Although, as @TSGAdventures says, most people aren't interested in you or me. In England (where I live) that might not be the case, though!

Hmm this comment has had some traction. Since this comment I have dove head first into public vlogging. It has been a challenge but with each video I do it has become more, as one creator says, liberating. I did one video based off this comment about "do people really give a crap if you are vlogging" and walked up into the downtown area and just owned it. I can say this video here inspired me to get completely out of my comfort zone and just put myself out there. Yes, I have gotten looks of "what the hell are you doing?" but I have also gotten the attitude of I really don't give a crap what people think. That attitude has been more prevalent with each vlog that I have done. The confidence and liberation of public vlogging has been something i think I needed in my life right now. After my accident back about a year and a half ago I realized life is way to short to worry about what other people think of you!!!

2:50 How do you know what a shoplifter feels like? 🤣 (JK) Great video! PS: I also think "recording in public" totally depends on WHERE in public you are. Obviously, Disneyland is a public place, and everyone and their dog records there. The beach, a park, a gala event, etc. LOTs of variables, no? Yeah, in a store might feel really weird. But just a few steps away, in a mall courtyard (are there malls anymore?) might feel really fine! :) Again. GREAT video!

I just made a video talking about the new insta360 x4 camera I just bought. I was in the park and saw people at the park. I avoided them only because they got loud couple times but I didn’t care who was watching and normally I would be nervous to film in public and I kind of am at times but you just got to record and focus on what you are doing and don’t worry about what others are thinking or doing. I too am in late 30s and love creating videos for my KZbin audience. Let’s grow together KZbin family and just have fun with it.

I read that you can auto-turnoff the screen after a number of seconds when recording, is this true? The thing is that you could use auto tracking so that you don't have to keep the camera in a very stable and unnatural position. With the screen off, it could look like you are just holding a camera that is off. I understand that talking is still a thing, but at least it doesn't look like you are vlogging from a distance.

However, at my age I am no longer even close to photogenic, so I make videos of things like walking tours, or airshows, or boats and people at Haulover, etc. I also have a KZbin channel where I have posted mostly videos I made while on the job as an Airline Pilot. Of course, all of these are in public too, but I guess it's easier when the camera is pointed forward instead of on me. I have also spent a fortune on camera equipment, and I also have the Pocket 3. Photos are actually my specialty, and I only do it for the joy of sharing my "artwork". To my surprise, Google decided to include one of my photos in their search results, and it has now gotten 25 million views!

I also wanna get one of those”. 😄😆😂🤣

Something's buzzing inside of me to make stuff, and I got inspired from all of these videos saying what a wonderful camera this is and what it's brought out in people. How refreshing, love the honesty and hitting on a point that effects many people I'm sure, we're not all super confident and feel a right twit, as we might say in England, wandering around filming ourselves. I'm 64 and admire these people, mainly very young (everyone is young to me!) that go around without a care producing great stuff. TSGAdventures makes a very good point that most people don't care about what others are doing... but it's still easier said than done. The other thing that comes with mature years, that younger people probably don't consider, is the thought that someone could bang you on the head and nick your camera, that's another aspect for many I'm sure. Great video, thanks.

You made it way further than i would filming myself in public lol

Ha, thanks for this honest look at the camera, and the level of introspection on yourself. I am not a blogger, but am interested in the the pocket 3 for taking videos of my family and having an easier way to film on the fly and be more creative. I am a videographer that shoots a lot of behind the scenes as well as events, which means I'm often taking a large camera set up to not film my self but to film strangers who were unaware that they were going to be filmed. Even worse is being pushed to get Hair and make up shots for actors/actresses getting ready for a photo shoot. I also have the burden of being overly aware of when I'm bothering people so I've learned the times when it's best to be quiet, take the shot and leave, or when I need to put on the customer service face, crack some jokes, and warm people up. I don't believe the litmus test for public filming is to just whip out a camera in a store though, especially when there's no creative objective behind you. I feel like of course the anxiety is going to kick in, because you know you're on private property using the space as it isn't intended to be used. Keep up the good work, can't wait to see what you do next.

I appreciate this feedback. Thank you! I think for the behind the scenes work you’re doing, you may like the Pocket 3 as a discreet way to capture footage without getting in the way. The tripod that could es with the creator kit makes it easy to stash out of the way and you can start recording from the DJI app on your phone. Best wishes!

Filming yourself in public is scary and just a turd that you have to swallow,... it remains scary 😅😊 (But you’ve done great ! )

Were you using the zv 1 to record in the beginning
@BrandonBautista Жыл бұрын
No, all of the footage in this video was taken with the Osmo Pocket 3. All of my previous videos have primarily been with the ZV-1, but not this one!

I think a lot of us can relate to what you expressed here - this is evidenced by the great comments you have already received. It is so true that the camera does not make the video great, but rather the imagination and creativity of the videographer. As someone said- the best camera is the one you use! The pocket 3 is great and I am finding I can be very stealthy with it because of the size. Due to the prevalence of people filming on their phones, I think most folks don’t care much (unless it is pointed at them). I have found some merchants will approach me because they think I am working for a competitor or something. I am always respectful and ask if there is any rule against filming in the store. Then I just explain that I am experimenting with settings on my new “toy” (usually true) and they are fine. Photographs & videos are sort of my ‘diary’, so important to me. Being discreet and respectful in public is key - so the pocket 3 is well justified for me. As for feeling guilty about all your camera equipment; I totally understand. Once in a while I will give away a camera I don’t use any more. Seeing the delight of the recipient takes some guilt away! Besides, you deserve this healthy and creative outlet and you are giving back through it. ENJOY! All the best to you, Bob

Bob, thank you for the kind and generous feedback. You’ve summed it up quite well, and I do believe that the best camera to use is the one you already have. My goal is for each video I make to be 1% better than the last one, so the more I do the better I get overall. Thank you! 🙌

Great job! The video shots taken with your new DJI Osmo Pocket 3 came out great. You did a great job. People nowadays don't care as much about people record inside stores.

Thank you so much! I do like the look of the Pocket 3’s footage at 24 frames per second. And you’re right, I’m sure most people don’t care about what I’m doing… with practice I’ll definitely get more comfortable. Thanks for watching!

Loved the video, it’s nice to hear that I’m not the only one who suffers from this! I don’t film myself ever, but I do film b-roll when I travel and unless I’m hiking or camping I feel self conscious pulling out a modest sized gimbal to film using my smartphone. That’s why the DJI pocket 3 is so appealing to me as I want to draw as little attention to myself as possible. Doesn’t sound like that really makes a difference though… Thank you!

It’s certainly less noticeable than a DSLR camera, but if you’re holding anything out in front of yourself and talking to it, I think people will be curious. It’s a great camera regardless!
