So you’ve created your KZbin channel, picked out a name you like, made yourself a logo, and maybe even uploaded a video. And then, you start feeling a little bit stuck. Based on the comments I’ve read on some of my recent videos, I can see two different trends of where people are getting stuck, and I think they’re kind of related… number 1, how do I come up with new video ideas, and number 2, dealing with imposter syndrome. Both of these roadblocks can be addressed by knowing what your unfair advantage is, especially as someone over the age for 40.

I started my channel when I was 63, now I'm 66. I have about 70 videos planned out, but I don't have enough time to make them often enough because of all the other business that the channel has generated. I'm now officially an Old Age Pensioner but working 80 hours a week doing stuff I love. My superpowers are that I've already made almost all the mistakes that are possible, and I have absolutely no fear of failure.

Agree. I'm 46, and I started my channel five months ago to inform and inspire the underrepresented low to middle-class to achieve true freedom. Get over imposter syndrome. I'm not an expert in any of the topics I discuss, but people can relate and benefit from my decades of failures, learnings, and successes. I believe there are always people who know more than me and people who know less than me. KZbin is an excellent platform for learning from each other.

In fact I have 40 years experience in my industry. I’ve been posting religiously weekly since Jan 2024 and I just posed video number 27. My age and experience is definitely an advantage and I intend to use it!! I’m only averaging 40 views per video lol but I love it. Just gave you a few minutes of my life, actually, 7 minutes. And, a subscription. You're really getting close to that 1,000 subs! My toughest birthday was when I turned 30 years old, figured that was it. As luck would have it, I'm much older than that! So old, 40 looks very, very young. I'm thinking the 40 somethings are the fastest growing influencers that are posting about being an old-er KZbinr. And, I must say they are doing better than me. That's ok. I'm still learning from them and yourself. It's like going to the doctor who is 40 years younger than you are. You have to put your faith in them. So far, after ten months, (actually started in 2011 but, changed up last year) I'm at 718 subs, down from 719. Best advice I can give is, don't quit.

58 yrs. over here! I love KZbin. It is life changing. It can be slow going but it 's all about the climb...righhht? I think I appreciate the opportunity more so because of my age. The era I grew up in did not have platforms like this to express yourself and share your creativity. I find my life so much more fulfilling since I started KZbin. I have another channel where I do household stuff--think Martha Stewart lol. But, I can't decide what direction I want to take it. It is kinda all over the place. I'm like a kid in a candy store, I can't decide which topic to choose. There is just so much opportunity here. KZbin is awesome.

I just got into making videos because I wanted to share my honeymoon experience at Zion National Park and, since then, I’ve been overwhelmed by all the ideas I have for other concepts. I’m writing again and coming up with ideas that I love. It’s crazy. And it’s thanks to channels like this one for encouraging that creativity. I can’t wait to share all the things I wanted to share, but didn’t because I was afraid or thought I was too old. I’m subscribed now! Thank you for this!!! ❤❤❤

This video was suggested to me in my feed, and I have to say that you hit the nail on the head. I started my channel somewhere around 40, and I was surprised to find that people actually like the videos. And yes, it probably has a little to do with the unfair advantage that I’ve worked over 15 years as an engineer. So I have a certain view on things. Therefore, I would encourage anybody who has something helpful to share, to get out there and share that information. People turn to KZbin all the time to learn how to do stuff. Keep up the good work!

Hi there, I think this is great commentary. I'm 59 and just now rebooting an old channel from 5 years ago and have a lot to say. I think in general, older folks have a wealth of life experience to offer on a million topics here and so the platform is a great way to connect with people to hear about them. My bottom line is to just do it, don't sweat the growth and metrics, don't feel like an imposter... just be yourself and talk from the heart about your field of expertise.

I agree, but I believe that your unfair advantage is simply that you are OLD, this is not your first rodeo and at your age you know what you like to do, passionate about and have life knowledge of. No need to wander around with your Vlog channel -- One day "Watch Me Brush My Teeth - The Next day "i am choosing my make-up". You can be consistent because you have already done the Speed Dating of Niches and you know what you're interested in or not. Don't sell yourself short - If someone taps you on the shoulder in the subway while you are taking a piss and askes for your opinion on a topic, YOU ARE AN EXPERT! 😎

We are all supporting each other. It’s cool. I hope to monetize by my birthday this summer…but if that doesn’t happen, my goal, is be monetized before retirement so I can have extra income and an enjoyable, self guided job. KZbin sees the market, they already have a good percentage of young people. They want a bigger chunk of the older generation.

This also goes well into us younger adults who aren't sure what to do on youtube yet. I was lucky enough to have 14 years experience playing Minecraft, and have found substantial growth when I switched from CoD to Minecraft. I just found something that i had been doing for a while and enjoyed as a kid and still enjoy

That’s high praise - thank you! True story: in the early 2000’s, one review of a movie I was in called me a mix between Ryan Reynolds and Jason Biggs. I don’t think they meant it as a compliment (this was even before Green Lantern), but I certainly took it as one! 🤣

My unfair advantage, is I treat KZbin as a fun hobby and to document stuff that I want to remember. My first video that hit a million was a poorly put together short of us visiting the Grinch. Never expected it to do so well. I make a small amount of money (very small). Maybe it turns into something, maybe it doesn’t. End of the day, my kids have a plethora of dad videos to remember their childhood.

I've definitely wrestled with this too, and I have several different channels as a result. What I've read is the content is meant for different audience, put it on a different channel.
