Filming locations at the Monroeville Mall "Dawn of the Dead" july 2011

I have been to this mall several times as I dont live far from it. I used to come here when it looked like it did in the Movie with all the fountains and old lamp posts. The fountain was actually where the Mr Rogers thing is, and the clock was on the other end but has been removed in the 80s. I have videos of the elevator and escalators featured in the movie, I always wanted to climb through the elevator roof like Peter and Stephen did, and slide down the escalator, but never got the chance.

I remember reading somewhere after the release of the movie, people were not allowed to take pictures inside the mall and security was tight over it. They would not even allow possession of cameras inside.

@MrWoodywoodward27 something else that is kinda interesting, my cousin played a zombie in this movie, mainly because he worked at a restaurant in the mall, while most of the zombies were mall employees. if you ever plan to revisit this mall come here in october when they do the zombie day, the mall opens at 7 am the last weekend in october and several zombies stroll around the mall like in the movie.

Actually a lot of the workers were used as extras in the movie for the zombies. I know someone that worked in restaurant called "pup a go go" back then and was asked along with several other mall employees if they wanted to play a zombie for the movie.

Great Movie! Glad too see that there many more die hard fans out there! Interesting how the skating rink is now a food court! That is just sign of the times! Thanks for filming and sharing!

I've watched this movie in it's entirety over 100 times.. Just like many of the folks here... This movie was my all time favorite.. Just goes to show that you don't have to spend a hundred million dollars to make a memorable film.. Cool post.. Thanks for sharing..

Sad News about JCPenney in this mall, the store where the elevator and escalator are in the movie and where a lot of the action took place has been torn down recently to build a movie theater, a Dawn of the Dead Landmark is no more :( the rest of the mall is still here, however it still looks much different.

@ARTONY92 There was no gun store in MM mall, that was shot in Pittsburgh I do believe, but that store has since gone bye bye.

just a little mix up, the fountain was by where macys is now, and the clock tower was where the trampolines are, I live not to far from this place, its too bad that the mall was renovated and cant be recognized as much, the old stair cases, lights and railings have all been replaced in 2003-2004.

@MrWoodywoodward27 yeah a lot of people thought that it was where the trampolines are. It would have been really nice if the fountain and clock was still there. I know how back in the day before it was changed, it would feel like your in the movie, sorta.

you should but the old jc penny is gone but they moved the its 1 floor now instead of 2 they are putting a h&m and a movie theater in it

so sad how the jc pennys moved luckly i haven't been their at the old jc pennys since august of last year 2012 now the store is 1 floor well one time some guy at macys wouldn't stop talking he was like do do this oh some guy closed a mall for a year and renovated it and he worked for apple oh and jc pennys is going to be 1 floor and this movie theater is going to be 1 floor to
