Hey Aaron, thanks for reviewing this. I picked one up through your B&H affiliate link. It’s pretty awesome. I’m thinking of picking up another. It’s so compact compared to to my ATEM Mini Extreme ISO. I LOVE that is supports SDI and a SD Card. I don’t need to bring a HyperDeck or a laptop. Doing conferences will be so much easier now! Thanks again!

Your technique of using the Preview bus as an aux output is a trick I use on the rack-mount BMD Television Studio HD switcher as well. The GoStream Duet's 4-SDI / 4-HDMI input configuration is reminiscent of the TV Studio HD's 8 HDMI / SDI inputs, with the BMD lacking only the Duet's SuperSource feature. As with the Duet, to use the BMD Preview bus as an aux output you have to forego its traditional use in staging dissolve transitions via the T-bar or Auto button. ATEM Mini's are set up by default to work in what BMD calls "Cut Mode", where pressing a channel button switches the On Air (red) status of that channel directly on the main output, leaving the (green) Preview bus unchanged. You can configure the TV Studio HD to work that way as well, making the Preview bus available for use as a separate aux output.

Aaron, I'm using a $400 Hollyland video transmitter (between the presenter laptop and the HDMI-fed projector) to beam in the slides to my video mixer. The ~6 frame delay is fine for slides. The cable run to the front is often too long, good cables are expensive, and a trip-hazard (and gaffer tape costs $$). Planning to test a $140 Lemorele video transmitter (HD only) to see if it suffices.

Hi, good ideas but I think it needs some fine tuning. 1) Presentation Q&A where the audience, both on site and Zoom participants can ask questions (zoom voices on speaker) 2) If the room has an overhead projector that has built in speakers (zoom voices as well) 3) A way of using the stream deck at a room with their local wifi (or do I bring my own mobile modem/router) I know you said audio is seperate but I don’t see how just any old small mixer can be connected. Thanks

I too am cutting on preview. It’s too bad the current firmware doesn’t allow routing stills or supersource to the HDMI outs (as you note). I actually have the macro buttons set to cut the HDMI out, which works pretty well for a companion-free setup (as long as you don’t need the stills/SS in the room).

Hey Aaron, I wanted to share an idea I've found to be amazing. Remote control canva slides. As long as the presenter uses canva, you can use your own ipad/computer and not have to use the decimator and SDI cable.

Hi Aaron. Just wondered if you could combine the duet with the Gostream M2? The two cameras into the duet. The presenter laptop into the M2. Your break screen on the Duet into the M2. The M2 hdmi to the projector. The M2 USB back into the Duets webcam USB. Hope this makes sense.

Great stuff Aaron. Maps to a bunch of what I’ve been thinking. I do wonder about fiber HDMI (or a cheaper HDMI to SDI converter) instead of the decimator.
@aaronpk
@aaronpk 4 ай бұрын
Yeah, I am considering fiber HDMI for some of the long runs here like to the projector. The main difference between using the Decimator vs a cheaper one or going with just HDMI is the Decimator also is able to handle a wider range of random computers than whatever switcher you're using. This might be less of a problem with computers today compared to 10 years ago, but it was definitely a problem.
@lukestein
@lukestein 4 ай бұрын
@@aaronpkMakes sense. I don’t own a decimator but somewhere in this setup I’d probably get asked to accommodate a presenter with audio in their slide presentation… would want something to extract audio from HDMI/SDI near the switcher table

Black Magic also makes some really good small HDMI to SDI converters. And splitters. And most everything else. We’ve been using them for years with the DevOpsDays Austin conferences that I’ve been involved with.
@aaronpk
@aaronpk 4 ай бұрын
@@shubinternet I think this is much less a problem these days compared to 10 years ago, but the huge difference between the Decimator and the Blackmagic converters is the Decimator will actually scale the input from a huge variety of resolutions down to 1920x1080, vs the Blackmagic converters which just convert between HDMI/SDI but don't change the resolution of the signal. But yeah less important with modern computers that generally all understand 1920x1080 now.

Always like watching your very informative videos, Aaron. Allow me to ask you this: if we were to broaden your selected setting a bit by admitting a remote public (i.e. journalists in the context of a press conference) via zoom AND a remote guest via Skype, what else (besides all you mentioned in your explanation) would I need to take into consideration? Would the osee still do in this type of configuration or is that rather a job for ecamm live resp. OBS, i.e. "too high end" for a hardware piece of gear? Thanks in advance! Love your work Jan Christian from Germany German music and orchestra association, member relations specialist/strategic member communication
@aaronpk
@aaronpk 4 ай бұрын
Needing to bring in remote guests definitely complicates things a bit, especially if you need to use both zoom and skype at the same time! The main complication this adds is managing the audio channels and avoiding sending the guest's audio back to them. eCamm/vMix make this super simple because everything is handled in software. You can definitely do it with hardware solutions like this switcher, but there's of other tradeoffs and considerations worth mentioning. I think that would also make a great video though, so I will put it on my list!

@aaronpk right thanks. I want to be able to press a macro button to switch Out 1 to HDMI in 3. Then back to its original state that I have (output 1 to HDMI in 1) . Our church doesn't have a stream deck as yet, so I want to utilize the function from the Go Stream.
@aaronpk
@aaronpk 2 ай бұрын
@@ZeroDay-dl5kt You can make two macros to change the HDMI output to input 3 and input 1. What you can't do with macros is things like "change back to the previous value". But if you just wanted to have Macro 1 switch the output to HDMI 1 and Macro 3 switch the output to HDMI 3 you can do that.

So, for the most recent DevOpsDays Austin conference, we did use ATEM Mini Extreme devices, with a separate audio mixer setup. Since you also separate your audio processing from this device, I’m wondering what the real differences are here, other than the price of the unit?
@aaronpk
@aaronpk 4 ай бұрын
You can definitely do most of what I've got here with the ATEM Mini Extreme, the key thing the Extreme adds is the second HDMI port unlike the ATEM Mini. The big differences are then the physical buttons (no preview buttons on the ATEM for the projector trick), the physical size of the ATEM being a log bigger than this device, and the necessity of running the ATEM software control. Oh and the cost. One of my goals with these next events I'm planning is getting the kit down as small as I can, and the ATEM Mini Extreme is just large.
@danmohan1981

Thanks for the video, this is the kind of stuff I do all the time, and I really appreciate looking at it from this angle. I have 2 questions though. First, I'm not a streamdeck user (yet). In your configuration, is the streamdeck plugged directly into the OSEE or is there a computer in between? The second question is about the atem mini pro (which is what I currently have). I think you could do all of this (except for supersource) with the mini pro, now that it is selectable for HDMI and USB-C outputs. You could run the live stream (program) out of the network port (although I'm not sure if Zoom supports that directly), run the multiview over USBC to a small laptop (OBS), and run the HDMI to the projector. The preview switching for the projector gets clunky if you're trying to do it all with the physical buttons, but the direct video out buttons do still control the HDMI output. Am I missing something?
@aaronpk
@aaronpk 4 ай бұрын
Yeah you can get close with the ATEM Mini Pro now that the USB can be used for multiview. But Zoom doesn't have streaming input, it needs a webcam, so the USB is taken up for that, or I have to start adding more gear. The Stream Deck needs to be connected to either a computer or a raspberry pi running the Companion software. Companion is what talks to the switcher.
@danmohan1981
@danmohan1981 4 ай бұрын
@@aaronpk Makes sense, thanks! I think that if you had to, you could SRT out of the ATEM into OBS, and let OBS be your webcam for zoom.
@QuicksilverSG
@QuicksilverSG 15 күн бұрын
On an ATEM switcher that has two HDMI or SDI outputs, you can configure it to work in what BMD calls "Cut Mode", where pressing a channel button switches it directly to the main (red) output bus. You can then set the second HDMI output to "Aux Prev", which sends the (green) Preview bus to that output. In this mode, you have to avoid using the T-bar and Auto buttons to trigger a dissolve from the Preview bus into the main output. For this to be convenient on an ATEM switcher, you need to use ATEM Software Control or an external controller like the Streamdeck to select which channel you want to appear on the Preview bus.
