I used to live in Bellmore (off Newbridge Road). I came across Mike once. It was before the Mixing Bowl had opened. It was a deli, and I remembered he acted as if he owned the place. Elk is a bit of a tricky meat to cook. If you're having it as a steak, you can treat it like a beef steak. But if you're cutting it up into little bits, you risk overcooking it and drying it out. Since it's a very lean meat, there isn't as much fat to prevent that. You either want to cook it hot and fast, or low and slow. Not to mention it's generally pretty expensive. It's like dumping saffron in chicken noodle soup.
