There's zero cohesiveness in expanded universe content honestly. One author can be brainwashed by the movie's with the propaganda that the empire is this evil malevolent force. So they'll write their stories as such. The other author can see the movies for what they are and pay more attention to create consistent narratives. I can see why Disney wanted to just throw it all out into the trash even though I completely disagree with how they did it.

@@Stiksta That's the thing. From just the movies, as it should be, he made this theory, and it fits. It’s cool to hear that someone officially came out and gave a anakin the bpd diagnosis because I was like this is a near textbook example of how narcissistic grooming and bpd often coincide. I wonder if the author did it on purpose or accident. Had Palpatine not groomed anakin since the day he met him, he would have turned out a lot different. As well as if the Jedi hadn’t constantly trivialized anakins emotions and experiences, they really Villianized him for existing which put him in a position that allowed the empower to swoop in. It was so hard to watch because bpd is such a stigmatized and misunderstood disorder, it’s hard to look at someone like anakin and recognize that he was really a victim since childhood as well as a villain.

Works part time in the city and is able to afford a speeder and, should he reach into his savings, a ticket off his planet whenever he needs. Organized crime is present on the planet, but isn’t nearly as omnipresent like with Anakin. Slavery is non existent in the average Tatooinian small business. @@nch2004 they ran the whole galaxy except for the unknown regions, where the first order was hiding out. They had a very off hands approach to running things. Basically each planet is on their own and can police themselves however they see fit, so long as they aren’t policing too hard, where the feds step in and shut it down. If you get a poorer planet (like 90% of planets outside the core worlds) they have too little resources to do anything or really have a government at all. The galactic navy was basically non-existent. The federal government was basically non-existent outside the core worlds. And even then, barely. My support for the empire is mostly a joke, but the new republic is actually the worst. Also the republic is basically imperialist.
@ЖамеркусДжиДжи3 жыл бұрын
Luke was actually brought there by Obi Wan, and yes, there was crime on Tatooine too, Jabba the Hutt ruled it. So they are not doing so well with their task, all that the Empire did was to replace one evil with another. Workers and engineers in the game of the last Jedi noted that during the Republic they were doing much better, keep in mind that the Empire / Republic had tens of millions of planets. The empire simply drove away the small bandits, and legalized slavery, began to cooperate with a major criminal sinicat. The empire is good only in management, but not in ensuring the lives of people and security. I'm not saying that they used the xenos as slaves. In general, democracy in the Far Galaxy is rather primitive

Even the Nazis, who were the closest we have to a truly evil regime, saw themselves as a victim and their fight to be righteous and to a degree they were right. The treaty of versailes, the occupation of the rhineland and parts of eastern germany, the marginalisation of germans in said regions and the threat that the soviet union posed to europe were all very real.

The Spaniards could not have defeated the Aztec with out the help of the people they oppressed and ruled over as second class citizens and lambs for sacrifice. Under the Old Republic, Naboo, which was a system so important that it had a Senate seat, only had a small starfighter corps and some royal militia as their defense force, and they had to pay for that out of pocket. Under the Empire, Tatooine, a planet so insignificant that Luke describes it as the planet that's the farthest from the center of civilization, had two Imperial-Class Star Destroyers and a large Stormtrooper garrison protecting it. Under the Republic, a crime lord like Jabba the Hutt practically ruled like a sovereign over Tatooine, but under the Empire, he can't walk around outside without a group of bounty hunters protecting him, lest the local Imperials decide to pick him up for "questioning". It goes to show the difference of how secure you can be under the Empire, as opposed to the Old Republic.

THIS. 100%. The Empire - the legitimate government of the wider galaxy - unlike its predecessor does not abandon its People. It establishes the rule of law without exception no matter where you live. The people of the Outer Rim now have free trade, the rule of law enforced by the Imperial Military, the Imperial Academies, an Imperial policing presence that means the criminal and the corrupt can no longer prey on the People. The gangsters can no longer operate with impunity. Slavery is no longer practised brazenly on Tatooine. The Imperials also establish a Sound galactic currency (the Imperial Credit) that is universally accepted currency galaxy wide. No doubt backed by a set number of Twilek females for good measure.

@@HolyknightVader999 Very true. With the exception of the Organas (Bail, Leia etc) who had some principles and epitomised the honour and grace of the Jedi Order, those other "Rebel" Senators are not even aristocrats of noble character, but rather a bunch of anarchists, or self serving vested interest groups who care little for the galactic populace. They were perfectly content for years to allow slavery to be practised in the open ("The Republic doesn't exist out here. We must fend for ourselves"), for the gangsters to rein free and act brazenly in the open, for levels of corruption beyond imagination, to live lavish lifestyles and hold endless debates going nowhere whilst the galaxy suffered, and indeed for an innocent Naboo system to be subject to an occupation by a Corporation! A corporation that they had no problem with holding a seat in the august Senate itself despite not being an elected representative of a galactic world! The Emperor was not a perfect being by any means - he might have brought his personal issues with the Jedi into the policy agenda too much, he might have had a soft spot for certain Moffs and big statement policies versus the Vader style meritocracy, but one thing you have to give him is he stood up to corruption, he served the People as their legitimate leader and he made it a top priority to bring Galactic Law to the entire galaxy without exception.

I'm personally diagnosed with it and for the longest time I've been saying he shows signs and people always said I was reading into things!! Anyways, his time in the jedi definitely did not help but I don't think that's where it started. It started before he ever met them. From the start, he didn't have a dad, and even though he physically didn't have one, to a kid that still feels like abandonment. He grew up a slave, and yes he seemed good with his life when we meet him but it's only because it's all he knows. I was the same way when I was a kid, I had no idea that what I was going through was abuse and I thought it was normal. It still has a lasting impact, even if it seems like we're coping with it, especially when we were children. We don't know any better, so we don't understand what we're going through at that age. As we get older, meet other people, see other families, this is where we start to realize that maybe what we went through wasn't normal after all. For anakin, this happened when he joined the jedi. They weren't perfect either, and yes being taken from his mother definitely added to his abandonment issues, but they were already pre-existing, you can't say that it's the jedi's fault, because it isn't, in fact, it's never anyones fault. It's a mix of a lot of factors.

Since you're using the Disney stuff here, you can take one good look at how things go in Rebels and find the empire subjugating, exploiting, enslaving, and murdering innocent civilians several times, and you don't even have to look too closely to see it. There are also a lot of instances of Vader doing totally evil stuff for decades, mostly in comic material, and based on his stated political view of "they should be made to" as Anakin, I seriously doubt how effective he could have been as a ruler. There are also several different stories of the empire suppressing free speech, manipulating trade in shady ways, exploiting the outer rim exactly like the republic it came from, and using a lot of slave labor, especially aliens. It did crack down on pirates more and put down bad rulers on some worlds, but it also destroyed a lot of small governments that were already effective on their own worlds, and for most who didn't live wealthy in the core, it was a very harsh and oppressive regime. The amount of stories of imperial rule subjugating and greedily controlling local people far outweighs all the good stuff it did.
