Three other tidbits worth noting: 1. They admitted the real reason they agreed to be on Kitchen Nightmares in the first place was because they expected Gordon Ramsay to be a 'yes' man and agree there was nothing wrong with what they were doing. Just think about that. 2. At the wrap-up of the actual episode Amy drops several hints that any good rating or word-of-mouth their restaurant got was actually submitted by them using sockpuppet accounts ("We've gotten tons of good reviews, THAT WE DEFINITELY DID NOT WRITE!!"). 3. They showed they have no concept of how online review sites work, believing that Yelp sends out professional paid critics to write reviews for them, and also had some sort of massive grudge against their restaurant, thus meaning all the bad reviews they got were some form of deliberate sabotage.

We had all seen the show and got so giddy. We walked in and the place was empty. It was immaculate with nice decor, but empty. We just wanted coffee and dessert, just long enough to get the full experience. Amy was in the back, but periodically came out to the pastry display to add things. The whole time she was staring us down. Sammy was extremely welcoming, telling us how he had the best coffee in town, over and over again, He really was hospitable. Amy, on the other hand, had her antennas up and was very suspicious of us. I found the whole experience surreal, yet hilarious and exhilarating - not the part where they charged 5 of us over $80 for coffee and cake though.

I kinda burst out laughing at first cuz like, isn't Amy literally the short nickname for Amanda? Like how Samy or Sam is used for Samantha. + it's catchy if the owners are Amy and Samy, I don't think thats a big deal if they decided to go with that name 😅 That's like saying a person that calls themselves Bill had a fake name all along and their name REAL name was William

They also made all their new hires sign contracts that said if they didn't work on holidays, that they would be forced to pay the owners a $250 dollar fine. The contract also stated that if they quit or got fired, that they couldn't work at another restaurant within a fifty mile radius for over a year. As if they weren't already delusional, what authority do they have to extort their employees, or have any control over them even after they've left? It's not so much the authority, but why would they even bother to care where the person worked next? It's not like they're gonna monitor the person, or demand that they hand over their tax returns just to be sure that they're not violating their agreement.
@TheUluxian Жыл бұрын
In some industries, it's not uncommon to have a "no competition" clause in a contract that says you won't work within X number of miles if you leave, but it's usually reserved for industries like hairdressers or personal trainers who develop 1 on 1 relationships with their clients. It's so that if, say, a stylist leaves a salon, it's less likely they'll take all their clientele with them. I was in the restaurant business for over 40 years, and never once heard of it happening. Possibly for a top-notch Michelin starred chef, but not for your average waiter or line cook..
@julietteoscaralphanovember2223 Жыл бұрын
Many jobs have contracts that say if you leave you can't work within a certain radius for a certain amount of time. This was in the doctor's contracts that worked for the hospital I worked out. No other employees had this in their contact, just the doctors.
@sayanorasonic Жыл бұрын
@@TheUluxian is that even a valid contract?
@Mordraneth Жыл бұрын
@@sayanorasonic 100% is valid. A No Competition Clause on a signed contract is legally binding, and failing to follow it will certainly lead to litigation. When I was a programmer for a local firm, my entire team was hired to write proprietary encryption software for encrypting offsite backups for the company. Part of the contract was I could not use any part of that encryption software, or a derivative of said software, use any of the existing algorithm, or work for a competitor for 365 days, plus a day after contract end.
@tequilacollins Жыл бұрын
@@sayanorasonic Depends on the state. In CA, where their 2nd bakery was set up, non-competes are not enforceable. And I seriously doubt the $250 dollar fine for not working on a holiday is enforceable either, at least to employees.

They're lucky their employees weren't a tenth as vindictive as they are. Would've been pretty easy for an ex-employee to take the footage of Samy explaining his policy on tips to the state industrial commission. "My former employer stole tips from me the same way he is seen doing it to them, which as you know is illegal. They've done this to dozens of employees, just as shown." If they thought they had problems before, can't imagine what a criminal investigation would make them do.

But at the same time... the episode was on live television, why didn't anybody come to inspect and report after the episode went live? Did nobody in the government watch the show and find out? Katie is the one who was fired on national television for asking a question. I felt really bad for that girl, but it was probably for the best I mean at least we got to see Amy for who she was. Although after the firing was done as the other server who Gordon gave a tip to now after the show, or sometime like after they closed for just a bit, they begged her to come back. Which she did then when she was given a tip, she kept the tip and they were calling her out as a thief. To which she argued to them, and then she told him I quit, and they told her you’re fired yet also stating that don’t bother calling her for help next time even giving them the business. Sadly, this all happened after the episode aired so we never really got to see it. It was late revealed in the visit to Amy’s baking Company.
