Kodi Smit-McPhee deserves an Oscar. I found his performance extraordinary. "Microscopic violence" is a good description of this film.

@@macducati2304 Yeah coz body language,diction, dialogue delivery and other nuances are nothing. One needs to do an overly dramatic monologue while crying their eyes out and with snort coming out of their nose do be considered worthy of Oscar. His performance was exactly what was required from his character. It's very rare that critics praise such an understated performance. Also boy has always been a brillaint actor.

I felt that the ending was what really rocketed the film into the stratosphere, the tension that was maintained throughout was so beautifully dissipated in the last scenes. There were no exceptions in the brilliance of the performances. Great film:)

Why are they not bringing Kodi and the cinematographer more in the conversation. It’s almost like I don’t really know them so I want bother. Why wait until they are universally well known before they are truly acknowledged. They were both brilliant. Typical Hollywood attitude.

Like Jane Campion, I too, do like cowboys! Deep yearning, grief, anger, fear, loss, strong emotions are evoked in this powerful movie. Practicing… and learning to make ropes. The actors embodied their characters. So much done behind the filming that we are not aware of without this type of interview… choreography, waltzing, body coach, piano and banjo lessons, learning to castrate a bull and make a rope, riding horses, etc. Playing the comb led me to think Peter is on the Spectrum as this is something children with autism do. Interesting that it would have been written in a book in 1967, when we did not speak of autism. At that time a person on the Spectrum would have been considered .

I saw this last night on Netflix. It was a good film, but it could have been so much more. Firstly, there is literally no dialogue. I understand that men in the Old West were perhaps men of few words, but I suspect even those men had more dialogue than this screenplay. It was a lazy directorial effort by Campion with missed opportunities to let the actors shine, most especially Kirsten Dunst and Jessie Plebens. They are brilliant in every scene but underutilized throughout. We never see their courtship play out. He helps her in the restaurant one night, and then he brings her and her son home to the ranch. She is an intelligent woman-did she not voice her concerns over the fact that she and her son would have to share living quarters with his sadistic, homophobic brother Phil? And the last third of the film was a rushed blur. Without giving anything away, it just…ended.
@crazychick19333 жыл бұрын
I felt like the story was more Phil’s journey and so it was his reaction to his brother’s marriage- the brotherly bond they had- they still slept in the same bedroom like when they were children. Her arrival shakes things up and Phil sees what his brother now has and how can Phil ever have that in that time and world? She highlights what Phil never have and takes his brother from him and he carries loneliness and longing in his heart that he cannot share and that is why he abuses his brother’s wife. One day his brother is spending time with a woman he considers a threat- and then he’s moving her into the ranch. That’s why I think we didn’t see their courtship.
