Yes! Raising Arizona is a classic. As I said on a previous video, you should look into watching Way of the Gun (if you haven't seen it.) It was Chris McQuarrie's first film and now he's driving the Mission Impossible franchise.

This might just be the most rewatchable movie ever. So. Much. Fun. And as you note, Soderbergh is having a lot of fun with the camera moves and angles. It's a relatively light romp that leaves him free to just let loose. He had just made Traffic and Erin Brockovich, and after those he could do pretty much whatever he wanted.

I very much enjoy the whole Ocean's trilogy. Ocean's Thirteen is probably my favorite to watch on the regular, even though it is regarded as the weakest of the three. Any one though is the type of movie you can sit and watch or just have on in the background.

Brad said in an interview that because he was playing the character that Dean Martin had portrayed in the original who always had a drink in his hand they asked him what Rusty’s thing should be. He hadn’t eaten yet that day and said that he should always be eating. He also said that he regretted saying that when they kept it up throughout film.

Me and my brother traveled through Vegas on my move across the country. Walked around all day and went to all the spots we could from the movie. Ended the day watching Ocean’s 11 in the MGM Grand and got to see all the sights that we walked through in the movie. One of the best movie watching experiences ever.

Great review!. Have to say Ocean's 12 might be even more beautifully filmed, although not as universally liked. Bernie fell ill during the filming of 12 and his role was cut a bit, but it's still WELL worth reviewing.

Living in the Netherlands, driving from north to south for me is 3 hours at max. I did some backpacking in the late 90's from NY state to Pennsylvania when I realized the difference regarding distances. I can image how your perspective is totally different. Man, you would love _The Sting,_ from 1973. One of the great puzzlebox movies, starring Newman and Redford. Great script, excellent direction, adroit editing, and a soundtrack that at one point actually _laughs._ Give it a try sometime, you won't be disappointed.

Love that Soderbergh's direction for the cast during the fountain scene was to exit when you are ready, but make sure Carl Reiner is the last one at the fountain. Then the cast and crew give him a round of applause! The behind- the- scenes are fantastic!

A kind of forgotten thing that makes this film influential is that up until now in most heist movies they tell the audience what the plan is so we know what to be tense about, but in this film they reveal to the audience what they did at the same time as the bad guy realizes

its the fact that they have all angles covered - the teaser of the air freshener for what was eventually their swat van - down to the moment of aquiring of tess - how benedict and his goons were going to react and who they were going to call - especially testing linus to somewhat pass the torch in what leads to his character development - just brilliant

out of everyone in the ocean crew, I would want to hang out with the Malloy brothers the most, their bickering is so hilarious. But honestly the movie was cast perfectly, everyone's chemistry was so natural like you said, not forced. So hard to get right in a lot of films. Also, I love how they rag on Matt Damon's character constantly. And Brad Pitt is always eating, makes me hungry. And Bernic Mac literally "strong--armed" the car dealer guy.

Some films use the camera as the audience. This film uses the camera as one of the characters. Really brings us into it and makes it feel alive. Bringing up multiple cameras that are doing the same move and then dissolving to one of them. The way the camera pans across who is speaking and then zooms into another in the back. This is next level editing and directing. Up there with Fury Road in terms of using the camera to keep the audience's eye flowing with the story with ease. It's also hard to think of any better chemistry between leads than Clooney/Pitt/Damon. One of the best reveals ever too when you realize how it REALLY went down. You feel like you're seeing everything.

In case you haven't seen it, I recommend watching Steven Soderbergh's Solaris, a remake of the original Soviet film. It's incredibly atmospheric, with great lighting, cinematography, and a great soundtrack by Cliff Martinez. It doesn't have amazing reviews, and it actually is one of the few films to have an F rating on Cinemascore. That being said, I find it very underrated and a fascinating watch. It also has George Clooney collaborating with Soderbergh again, and I like both of their works together.

6:38 back in the day, I ripped the audio from this exact sound and made the wav file of it an error alert on my Windows PC. One of the things I like most about your reactions is you find symbolism in the filmmaking in a few things I didn’t notice before. I like seeing how creative filmmakers can be to tell a story. Edit: I recommend Lucky Number Slevin for another movie with great chemistry between characters and creative filmmaking.

I wanna say as a screenwriter (technically aspiring), but that ain’t even needed, it’s just fun as hell sometimes seeing you see something good af to great. I’ll never forget your reaction to the oner in the car in Children of Men, but this is my fav reaction so far. I just assumed you had seen Ocean’s Eleven because it came out when I was like 10 or 11 and I just grew up watching it all the time. Sometimes it’s just fun to see a reminder of how great Soderbergh and his filmmaking can be, and through your eyes it was oh so fun to see. Thanks for doing the reactions man.

there was an episode of Star Trek DS9 season 7, aired 1999, that played a lot like this movie: recruitment, planning, positioning, and at the time of the heist, complication after complication. when it aired, nobody gave it much credit. when the DVD came out in 2005, *EVERYONE* was comparing it to Ocean's Eleven. that last shot of the characters, with the camera panning over each one, almost mimics the ending of the episode: the mark guy is being taken out, and as he "walks the plank" you see all the characters watching him as he passes. all orchestrated with jazz music, with a full orchestra... full 1960's style.

Ik this is an old video but i love how the camera is interesting but DOESNT DISTRACT YOU. A massive issue i have with alot of indie films/"art" films is stuff being complicated for no reason and detracting from the story, and this movie nails it. And the pacing is just chefs kiss

Steven Soderbergh’s movies are always so visually adventurous. No one breaks more rules and tries more new things while still communicating efficiently and keeping things palatable for the masses. The guy does not half-ass anything. And how many directors are their own DP for most of their films? I’m sure there are others, but I can’t think of them, and Soderbergh isn’t just some obscure art film guy, he’s made A-list Hollywood movies for decades

Once again, excellent reaction. The best thing to do now is treat yourself to a bit of cinema heaven, and see all the Soderbergh films he directed between 1998 and 2001. Outta Sight, The Limey, Erin Brockovich, Traffic, and not Ocean's Eleven, since you've just watched it (but if you do watch it again, it'll be fun, and I won't know). Each of those flicks is a work of exquisite cinema, while simultaneously being some of the most entertaining films of that era. The Limey is my personal favorite, which sounds insane in the company of those other titles. But sue me, it's an excellent film. Also, a number of those films were shot by the great cinematographer, Peter Andrews. Andrews is a DP of such prodigious talent, he sometimes likes to direct motion pictures under the pseudonym, Steven Soderbergh.

One of my favorite things about the movie is that Old School Hollywood, Rob Reiner, gets a bit of a nod as Saul's theme is the EO-11/Theme of the Original Ocean's Eleven.
