Only something I picked up after learning from you, but a lot of the scenes in your video show the camera either floating as if on water, slightly off-kilter, or have a slight fish-eyed lens effect. Was very subtle, but gives that nautical feel, even when on land. Not sure if it's something you pointed out on your Patreon video, but thought I would share.

This is such an underrated film. It has a 56 on Rotten Tomatoes, and I read people criticizing it with the good old "Style over Substance" complaint. Honestly though, there is so much great character work I fail to see why the critics were mixed on it.

I guess it`s because Jaques Cousteau movies were more famous in Europe than in the US. It`s a beautiful homage to him and his blend of documentary and adventure movies. I grew up with these documentaries and watched life aquatic withs friend from the US and Honduras and since a lot of Cousteaus movies were filmed in the Caribbean she was aware of them and connected much more with this movie than the guy from the US. Her dad was actually friends with one of Cousteaus divers.

I love this movie. All the unreal creatures are done with stop-animation, which led him to doing Fantastic Mr Fox. Dafoe steals every scene he's in. The weight of Murray's performance towards the end is so heavy it real makes you feel that Steve Finally feels the gravitas of everything going on and reality has hit him hard. I love the honesty and vulnerability of the film Steve puts out in the end. Every time I watch a Wes Anderson movie it feels like going to film school. Life Aquatic was the first Wes Anderson film I ever saw, back in 2004. It blew me away. The VIBES are just so unique and dialed in. This one is definitely in my top 3 of Wes Anderson films, although there's a weird group of people who say it's one of his worst...?! Anyway, you need to watch this again without talking over it, I understand you have to for this channel, but you spoke over some of the best lines of dialogue and I'm afraid you missed them. Trust me, there are some real gems in there. Also this was co-written with Noah Baumbach, who is known for great dialogue and is himself a great director - check out his film THE SQUID AND THE WHALE, which was produced by Wes Anderson. It's great.

My most favourite soundtrack ever. Not a song out of place. The music playing during the Jaguar Shark scene is by Starálfur by Sigur Ros. One of the most beautiful moments of my life was when I first heard that, in the back of a car, driving through dappled light in the woods of Derwent Valley, Yorkshire. I love this movie. It's like a free holiday. I confess to crying during it, grinning like an idiot at other parts. Billy Murray is magnificent, as is everyone else who are clearly having such fun and playing at the top of their game. Plus Bud Cort as bond company stooge! The movie was shot on Eastman Kodak Ektachrome 35mm film, and wasn't colour graded. That's what you get when you shoot Ektachrome. More movies really need to get back to shooting on film, and embracing practical effects. This film is like nothing else. x

What's amazing about Wes Anderson is that, beyond his visually stunning style and the intricate set design, his scripts are beautiful little stories filled with rich characters. I think this is why he might not be for everyone, but filmmakers and writers unanimously love him. You can tell there is infinite effort put into every movie. Also, I will have to disgree with your idea that it's not playing with traditional structure but I agree it definitely hides the structure under many layers so it throws you off. Either way love the reaction!

This movie and The Royal Tenenbaums are my favorite Wes Anderson films. Have you seen Lost in Translation? It's also great with Bill Murray.

This one gets left out a little in Wes Anderson discussions for some reason, and somehow only has a 56% on Rotten Tomatoes which is a crime. This and The Grand Budapest Hotel are my favorites of Anderson's for sure, I'm really glad you liked it man.

I saw the amazing Brazilian star Seu Jorge in concert a few years ago at the Hollywood Bowl. The first half of the concert was his original music, and showed why he's a legend in Brazil, and the second half was Bowie songs from the film. It was really wonderful. I also love that Bud Cort is in this (he was Harold in the legendary Harold & Maude.) I recommend checking out Seu Jorge's music, you'll be so glad you did. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iHa4iZV9lqqfb5Y

I've seen it is already commented on but The Royal Tenenbaums is my favorite movie of Wes's. It has the clearest story line, great cast, and for my money the best music accompaniment of all his films all added to his storybook filming style!

i remember i dragged my friends to the theater to see that movie when it came out because i liked a lot royal tenenbaum and obviously because Bill Murray and they realy didn't want to watch that movie but in the end we were all blown away and they all thanked my amazing taste (lol). i'd really like to see your reaction to the science of sleep by michel gondry, it's one of his french movies but it's mostly in english because the main character is played by gael garcia bernal, it's a crazy and inventive movie, i really recomand it :)

wes anderson is my favorite director! my favorite film of his is the royal tenenbaums. and while the life aquatic is one of the lesser wes anderson movies, i still think it’s great. plus david bowie is my favorite artist so having a lot of his music in a wes film means a lot to me (-:

I LOVE WES ANDERSON. My favourite of his has to be The Royal Tenenbaums. Made me realize the Owen brothers actually can act. They just usually choose uninteresting films.
