Man, the amount of things you guessed right or very close about her character and lore just from analyzing her trailer really speaks volumes about the amount of work and detail the team making the trailer did as well as your understanding of filmmaking. This was amazing. I also recommend the trailer for the character named Zhongli for you to react as its also, in my opinion, one of the best and most cinematic (second only to this one) of the trailers

A lot of Raiden Shogun's characterization and personality revolves around duality. Even as the God of Electro, her own element is a paradox to her ideal as the God of Eternity, since you know a flash of lightning is but a brief moment. Keep playing, and try to ignore the fanbase drama in the background. It's a fun game regardless of developers and fans. So much lore, and their trailers and demos are really something to be admired. And the music...

wouldn't Zhongli's demo be a spoiler? I don't know where he's at on the story but when that trailer came out I remember there were only theories about the character's complete role in the story. Then again I guess it's still gonna be hard to avoid spoilers from that archon quest at this point

TL;DR: I'm glad you mentioned her voice acting, because the unifying theme of division in her character is reinforced by the voice acting and her VA's are all amazing for being able to display such mastery. Note: Your unique perspective on the trailer and perceptive observations have earned a sub from me! I also respect your opinion in this regard and I really hope you'll do more reaction videos to some of the more "epic" moments of the story, be that in Mondstadt, Liyue, or Inazuma, as there's plenty in each! I like that you specified how the voice acting, like Yuna's, could be seen as stiff but that it mirrored the trailer's composition and her animation/momentum (as controlled and tempered). This actually exemplifies her character more than you think; her voice acting plays a large part in the earlier observation you had about the cinematic having a lot of cut shots of her (divided frames, duplicated panels, etc.), and this is reinforced in that the voice actresses exhibit 2 different voice acting styles while portraying Raiden. This is extremely significant to her story and lore in the same way that the themes of Control and, to a lesser extent, Majesty are from this trailer and how Loss is from her "Nightmare" teaser. Obviously we'll avoid spoilers (please do reaction videos to the cutscenes once you get to Inazuma! A blind reaction to those from you would be fun to watch), but these unifying themes behind all aspects of her character - be it lore, cinematic, voice acting, etc. -are brilliantly done and show just how much effort Mihoyo puts into their characters even though they're releasing multitudes more than in their previous game (Honkai Impact 3rd), which certainly deserves my respect. It also shows how talented her VAs are - regardless of the language - to be able to not only portray 2 styles but also to do it convincingly and distinctively. Huge props to Anne Yatco, Miyuki Sawashiro, Park Ji-Yoon, and Juhuhahua (I think that's how you would write it in english? Wasn't sure so I looked it up in the wiki. Hope I didn't mess that up xD) for their performances! If you can't already tell, my favorite character is currently Raiden! xD

She’s a very complex character. You’ll have to play through the game to find out, I wouldn’t want to spoil anything. I will say this tho, she is the god and ruler of the realm known as inazuma , she also holds supreme power over the electro element as its archon. Just be aware her section of the story is VERY far away if you’ve just started. And no, there’s no quick way to get there. You have to play through the story in order.

Quite late to comment on this but in case it wasn't mentionned, the "stiff" voice acting at the end is because she's quoting a japanese poem known as Haiku which follows a pattern of 5-7-5 syllables. So the stiffness is just here to put empasis on the sentences. To note also, this poem is a very well known one by Kokin Wakashu, to put it shortly, it's about the buddhist philosophy of how life is transcient and how he only see the real/waking world as transcient as a dream. Which is accentuated with the last sentence "all shall fade away" as in everything will end because all is transcient.

Kokomi has done nothing to contribute. Raiden suffered no consequences for her people. Her story quest was a market date randomly into the open. Like it was very flawed.

The Raiden Shogun is a walking pile of spoilers tbh, since a good chunk of the Inazuma Archon Quest involves dealings with her, but as you might have suspected, nothing in this trailer is on accident. The production crew and writers were very well in touch. Unfortunately, if you wanted to get her but haven't yet, her banner is over and won't be back for a long time. Thankfully, Archons seem to be high priority for rerun banners, so she won't be gone for an eternity ;P

Glad you enjoyed that video, if you wanna know her story then I'd say experiencing it through the game would be the best way. Although if you haven't gone very far with the story then it would be quite far away before you get to see her because she's in the 3rd region that came out in version 2.0

One of the best trailers in genshin so far. Everything from the shots, va, music was just phenomenal. Her lore is actually also so good too but you have to play the game to understand her a lot more since 2.0 archon quest basically revolves around her.

I think the reason she speaks so slowly and formally at the end isn't because it sounds more formal but to emphasize the syllable pattern - in the English dub she's reading a Haiku, you can count the syllables in each line and notice the 5-7-5 pattern. In Japanese she reads a longer Tanka which is 5-7-5-7-7 which is an older style than Haiku but most westerners never heared of it so they used a Haiku in the English versions. It's also a Haiku in Chinese, and I have no idea what they did in the Korean version.

Definitely my favorite trailer from Genshin Impact so far as it is so dense with meaning but still tightly edited and choreographed. You're also correct in assuming that the the Shogun has some complexity and duality to her character but I'll let you discover that on your own (or read about it if you won't play the game.) Anyway if you ever decide to play again I'll try to be there for the streams! And if you decide to co-op in the future I'd be down for that too.

she's basically a god in game, and more of an enlightened being. she's not an antagonist. at least not in the traditional sense. she's a bit more complex

She is an antagonist; what she isn’t is a villain. People want to equate the two, and they do often overlap, but they aren’t the same thing. Not all antagonists are villains, just like not all villains are antagonists. For instance, in Honkai Impact 3rd Ch 17, Kiana and Mei, despite being best friends/lovers, are each other’s antagonists because what they’re fighting for are in opposition with one another. Conversely, in Overlord, Ainz is absolutely a villain, but as the series’ MC he’s the protagonist. Same can also probably be said of Tanya Degurechaff in Saga of Tanya the Evil.

The pink haired woman is my 3rd favorite character, yae Miko. Yae Miko is the Raiden shogun's servant/friend (mostly friend) and she's important in the inazuma story :)

The Raiden Shogun might have my favorite lore of any character in Genshin Impact so far. I think something Genshin does extremely well from a storytelling perspective is presents its villains with actual depth. Simply put, it’s villains don’t fit that “mustache twirling evil for evil’s sake” mold. The Raiden Shogun (very early on) is presented as this evil archon who is confiscating people’s Visions, yet we find out as the story progresses that she’s not necessarily doing it out of malice. Tartaglia (Childe) is also one of my favorite characters for this reason. While he is with the Fatui and on the surface he appears to be doing evil deeds, there is legitimate purpose put behind his actions. I loved that mini-arc with his little brother because we got the chance to see that Childe is a softie at heart.

i love how when you look at these Genshin trailers in hindsight.. a lot of things just make sense. Like the shadows and reflection; The inverted shot in the beginning. So many good things audio/visually when you see it the first time, but it becomes much more meaningful when you go through the story.

Great reaction. I really love this, the music changes and the fast-paced images/action are insane. I also really love her character teaser video "Raiden Shogun: Nightmare", it's way more emotional than anything else in the game so far and shows more from her past, so if you can make a reaction for that one too. The entire team (almost) involved in Genshin Impact is improving by light years in every update, from the level design, to the ost, story, characters and character design, editing, lore, etc. The only two things I want them to also improve as much are the gameplay and mechanics (they need to overhaul a few things and add a few more), plus the event rewards. Some events are crazy fun (like the boss events with the additional difficulty options) but the rewards for them are garbage, making the overall experience worse than it should be. Still, I will not stop playing until the entire story of the game is over (for at least the next 4-5 years), and I will continue to spend ~1000 hours per year like the first one in this game. I LOVE every minute of it even with its few problems (like artifact farming...)

At first I didn't like her character trailer because of the chaotic style, but a few rewatch (and after experiencing her story in the game), I came to see the brilliance in this trailer. They had to show her character gameplay, while telling a story, and somehow embedding pieces of character foreshadowing and lore through a medium that evokes the unpredictability of lightning. Not the mention, the chilling music that delivers even more storytelling (watch Alex Moukala's breakdown of this trailer, he explained the chord progression so well and how it seemed to relate to Raiden's character)

Raiden Ei Raiden shogun and Raiden Makoto are my faves, if you ask ill explain all three also the place where teh levitating shogun was is called the plane od euthymia, aka the the realm of her conciousnesss, or well Eis conciousness ok ill just tell, it wehn she was like half and half, its the shogun and Ei, teh Raiden Shogun, is a puppet made by Raiden EI

I know this is an old video, so don't expect many people see this comment. However, in case you random person reading, do find it: From the perspective of someone who's been playing the game, and care a lot about the lore and stuff, and who is a film buff who's learned a lot about cinematic language, metaphoric/symbolic imagery etc ... There is so much in this 'character demo' or 'trailer' 👀. Sadly, it's hard to pick up on the exact meaning with no context of course, but I think that's also intentional to not spoil later story plot points. But with context, all the stuff reacted to here in editing and cinematic choices, and stuff unnoticed, do indeed say *so much* about the character. This is definitely my favourite of the character trailers, it is so jam packed with details.... Okay, I actually can't resist talking about it in specifics, so I'm putting a *spoiler* section further down. So anyone reading this can choose depending on if they care about spoilers or not. . . . . . . . . . . Okay, so first of, Philip thought the camera shifting down and then entering that area with the red moon, was signifying it was underground. However, that was just a choice of cool fluid transitioning shot. However the cinematic language of the video **does** tell us exactly where it is. As we zoom out of her meditating, the shot transitions into a zoom out on her sword. That's it, right there, she literally put her own consciousness inside her sword, and that area we saw her mediating in, *is* inside the sword. So pretty cool. Now, How can she be doing cool. Another big spoiler secret on the trailer around 1:25. With the two Raiden's back to back. It, again, is a lot more literal than you'd think. There are literally *two* Raiden Shoguns. Well, it's a little more complicated than that, but effectively that's the case, and I won't get into it for the sake of brevity. However, both these shots were really cool looking shots, that also foreshadowed very important lore about the character, which we don't even learn until a bit into her story. It's very telling of talent at work here, being able to literally tell the viewers story details about the characters before they're revealed, bc without the context anyone would just dismiss it as 'cool looking editing choicesl'. There are some other stuff too, but that's diving deeper into lore stuff, so no point in mentioning it here.

The area where she's meditating is like her consciousness where only she exists. It's a lot like a Domain Expansion/Reality Marble from Jujutsu Kaisen if you are aware of that. And the Pink haired woman is Yae Miko the Head of the Grand Narukami Shrine.

The following contains spoilers for the main storyline of Genshin Impact. Only read this summary if you do not care about spoilers: This character is both the ruling leader of the region of Inazuma, as well as the Electro Archon, aka: the goddess of Lightning. In Teyvat's history, by the end of the Archon War 2000ish years before the setting of the game starts, there were seven Archons/Gods chosen to lead the seven Elemental Regions. By that time, there were TWO Electro gods chosen, twins, that went by the names Raiden Ei, and Raiden Makoto. Makoto was the face the majority of the world knew as the Electro Archon, and Ei was her body-double and shadow warrior that took over military actions. The only ones that knew there wasn't just one Electro Archon were their close friends and retainers. Over time, these friends died or were killed tragically in the Abyss Wars, and at that war's conclusion at the Fall of Khaenri'ah, 500 years before the game's beginning, Makoto was killed, and Raiden Ei took up the mantle of the Raiden Shogun, ruling alone all the way to when the protagonist of the game enters Inazuma in Genshin Impact's storyline.

i think its moreso related to the fact that there are two "raiden shoguns", one who is a puppet created with the sole purpose of sustaining eternity in Inazuma and the creator who meditates in the plane of euthymia in the sword to prevent the erosion of her mind and body
