One thing about this group, they don't let ego get in the way of what is best for a song. They also recognize that a stunning background is equal in importance to a strong lead. They aren't going to plug someone in just to attempt to make things equal. Listen again, and concentrate on the background. It is amazing.

Scott live is completely different than recording booth Scott. I’ve seen them live 3 times now and Scott is amazing in the booth, obviously, but he lights up and gets so much from a live performance and he’s 100% better live! They all enjoy live, but Scott the most. In my opinion.

Matt's voice is incredible, and his range is still growing. Currently, I believe his lowest note is A1, which is within the range referred to as "basso profundo," though not quite low enough to blow out speakers in live performances the way Avi's lowest notes did. But his range tops out very close to the top of a normal tenor range. In my opinion, Matt has the greatest range of any member of Pentatonix, past or present.

Yeah, Scott's all grown up now, after almost 12 years with Pentatonix. And in 2023 he 1) put out his first solo EP (which you only reacted to one official video, there's three more.) 2) got married. 3) won a Sports Emmy (who knew that was a thing?) for co-music-directing a video shown during the 2023 Super Bowl, featuring his children's choir and Johnny Cash 4) co-wrote and arranged an original song that was selected by Disney for the nightly Epcot fireworks display.

Scott has always had that raspy voice in his repertoire, but it's definitely gotten better as he's gotten older. It comes through well in some of his solo work also. The choir version of "Mars" is mind-blowing. The official video of Mars is great, and a real visual treat, but for listening, the choir version and the acoustic version are just incredible. His whole EP "Parallel" shows a lot of different sides to his vocal capacity.
@ian_forbes9 ай бұрын
100% agree. Was coming here to add this. And not only does that choir version of “Mars” showcase Scott’s rasp but also his high end range. Which he seems more and more confident in these past few years.

Kirstie - All right boys...voices and cello up Mitch - LoOove remains - MiniMitchSlap Scott - Blue Eyed Soul Dragon Drive-by Matt - Renames song 'Falsetto from a Bass' Kevin - "Hold my bow".. "BaaaaBYY!!!!".... Note all of the members except Kevin just might have a greater connection with this song than they know....we would have to ask their parents. This was some serious baby making music in the 90s. Having your song sung by Pentatonix is becoming an award...as it should be. Mitch and Kirstie have both said Kevin has the highest register in the group, his falsetto is fantastic.

Can you say "Grammy Award !!! There is NO contest. Just hand them the Award. This is another one of PTX's "Build - Up - & - Drop - You" again and again until they have you so out of breath and panting that your brain doesn't know how to process what just happened to you. YUP !!! Kevin "Cello boxing" is at an EPIC high in this song. Scott's energy letting loose and his riffs and runs are unspeakably perfect, then Matt's soulful voice comes in and caresses you, and the background from Kirstie and Mitch are just "off the charts" fantastic. I agree, I'd like to hear a bit more of Kirstie in this. I really like how simple they kept the videography. Gives us a chance to see who is doing what in the song. If I were Seal, I'd be pissed that I let such an epic group do this cover, OR, I'd be so high on pride that not even crack would measure up, that I let PTX cover MY song. Either way I'm sure Seal is over the moon with this cover. And I seriously doubt that you would EVER see another cover of this song that is as EPIC! PTX is just so far beyond most musical groups. And with that level of talent there is a down side or high responsibility in that you have to keep creating more and bigger epic moments and creativity just to stay on top of that throne or pedestal. That in itself is a daunting task that many have been through and failed. Some have managed to get back up and continue on but many have also failed in a tragic and fatal way. For these five to be at this level for as long as they have been and to stay together as long is just pure MAGIC and has never been seen before. They are breaking ALL the boundaries and resetting them higher. Thanks for reacting on this one. It is VERY special.

Many times, if Kevin drops percussion even for just a few beats, he'll add a note or two to add & fill in. Many mistake this for a possible background track or even a double track of Mitch or Kirstie. Like the high bell like tones at the end of O Holy Night or the very prominent note at the end of The Prayer while Mitch hits high Heaven in the background! Kevin is an amazing member of this group! 💖 And people often don't realize that it's Kevin.

When I first heard the Yule Log version of the song, I assumed the "bay-bee!" at the end of the cello solo was Mitch, simply because he's normally the one doing those high notes. Imagine my surprise when I saw the VEVO version, and found out it was Kevin! At the end of Kirstie's short solo, you can see Kevin reach out with his foot and tap his mix pedal to switch his electric cello over to an electric guitar sound.

Regarding Kirsten - I also initially wondered why she was not given an opportunity to solo in this piece, but then it hit me - this song is from the perspective of a man, singing about how this relationship affects him. The man's partner is the Rose from whom he receives the Kiss, and in this case, that's Kirsten. It just makes sense to have the make voices talking the lead for this song. Thanks again!

10:31 Scott has definitely let rip before like this. 😃 Several of their performances in _The Sing Off_ had him ramping up his vocals to a more R&B-meets-rock sound - quite possibly because each group were compelled to sing in a different style each week as part of the stages of the competition...
@Ron-Ayres5 ай бұрын
And yes, agree about Kirstin - the perils of being a mid-range 'filling out the richness in the middle' type sound is that she rarely gets to shine in the way that Mitch or Scott do. The group really should work harder to feature her more - especially as the only female in the group.

I think you are confused about the VEVO thing. The version with the blue background was recorded live in VEVO studios. That is, to my experience, the one everyone refers to as "the VEVO version". it would help a LOT if you could edit your title of this to inform the viewer you are including two versions. It was confusing to see that, at first, you had the VEVO screen and said you were going to review the VEVO version, but then showed the album cover and played that version. It's pretty clear from the comments here that many were disappointed enough to not watch the rest. Also, Scott sang this in a VERY similar style to the way he performed "Let's Get it On" by Marvin Gaye, in their 10th "Sing-Off" performance... It is well worth a view of that one, even just for your own enjoyment... 19-year-old Scott totally blowing the roof off that building was the best performance I've ever seen him in. He was feeling it all the way down to his feet. Just. Like. This one. ❤
