I remembered when they rescuing us its so tragic when you see your classmates/friends stuck asking and hearing them scream for help, the screaming and voices of people asking for help while the ships is sinking the scream slowly vanished. When you can’t help them because the water got deeper and deeper while they rescue us slowly. The time that i got rescued only 3 of us survived, my two classmates and i in our and my other classmates stuck in the ships hoping they’re still alive but when the time i heard the news that they’re all gone. It slowly sinking in that all my friends and the other class are gone and will never comeback. I feel guilty when I survived, I’m thinking am i lucky? Or is it not right that i was alive and not them? Do i deserve to live?. Feeling depressed, having suicidal thoughts, every night you can’t sleep because i keep hearing those scream a scream people needing a help but you can’t because your weak and got broken bones. Everything time I struggled to see what life is all about, thinking what if all of my friends survived and they with me survived. It would be dream to see that happening. I struggled to make a good life that i can be proud of because of that incident happened but when i found out about BTS my life changed me because of their music they changed my life the way that i can be proud of and I started loving myself by little by little and finally the day I realize life is so short and the incident happened 7years ago impacted my life to be a better person and all of our hardships are just a big task for us to make them done and the outcome will be 100times better the incident happened 7years ago thought me so many things. The biggest one is don’t forget they might be gone but don’t forget them put them on your heart and like life all of your hardship and your mistakes will not lose or fail you it’s always a win win situation because we always learn from them. Spring day is my number 1 fav song of BTS because I reminisce the things happened 7years ago while watching the mv and it always help me to keep going in life and do not give up on things that i want to achieve - My name is Chilo one of the survivors of the sewol ferry incident.

Dear Chilo, my heart goes out to you. I cannot imagine the hurt and pain and the weight you carry with the memories of the incident and the injustice that was surrounding it all. I am sure you know this first hand, but trauma is physically damaging. If you are not the same person as before the incident, if you can do less than if it has never happened - that is completely understandable. It's not on you. I don't think you need to do anything big or special with your life to be more deserving of it in place of your friends who were taken by the tragedy. I am sure each and every one of them would be glad just knowing you survived, you found safety. They live in your memory. While Sewol was a defining moment in Korean history and your life - it does not define you. Same, as the way your friends passed don't define the life they have lived. If looking back, they have found meaning in their lives and felt it was worth it. I believe most people find meaning in what they love and enjoy or what inspires them. It really doesn't have to be anything big it can be simple. I hope you find these things for yourself to motivate you. I also hope you have people around you who understand and support you and give you strength. (Not implying that you are weak. You are one of the strongest people in the entire world for being able to cope). As an army I am so glad if BTS and Spring Day give you comfort. I believe this was the honest intention behind this song, video, and album.

There is one scene that the explanation doesn't talk about that I think is important, Where Jin is at the bottom of the stairs and the others are climbing the stairs Jin represents the children who died and the other members are those who survived and will keep growing up while he can only stay at the bottom and watch them.
@LoveTheBasics3 жыл бұрын
Ohh I thought it was the other way around. That makes more sense
@yoonji-ssi74473 жыл бұрын
It has something to do with the story "the one who walk away from Omelas." Jin represents the kid in the story. Hidden under Omelas. His suffering equates the entire town's happiness. The reference was because in Korean Culture, you're to follow your senior or "sunbae" even if they're wrong (seniority). The sewol tragedy was like that story. They told kids to stay where they are. Had the kids not obeyed, they would not have perished.

BTS’s donations especially the one made immediately after the accident in 2014 and their open support of the Sewol Ferry victims were particularly meaningful because they were at risk of being blacklisted by their own government. This shows that BTS is not afraid to stand up and speak on societal issues. For Koreans, Ferry Sewol remains a trauma in itself. The first breaking news in the morning was misinformation that "all rescued," and in less than an hour, all Koreans had to witness the sinking of the ship in “real time” on a TV screen. Seeing someone die in person works completely differently than hearing the news of the accident. The visuals are that powerful. (That's why many people love BTS's music video.) In particular, most of the passengers on the ship were high school kids, and all parents with children felt as if their children were dying. Me too. The wound will heal, but the scar will remain. We Koreans still cry when we think of Ferry Sewol. However, this is the reason why I recommended Bulletproof version rather than Italian Army, cause she talks so fast focusing on the actual event so sometime it's hard to focus on this beautiful Spring Day MV as a tribute. I do hope you do just one more reaction to Bulletproof Vibe’s explanation cause it will make you calm down and think and feel in a better way. (and now you learned detail about the accident then it would be a way better to see the other explanation video. There are more points that Italian Army girl didn't explain... trust me.) Bulletproof's short just take less than 8 min, so please check this one first and do your own interpretation together.

BTS risked their careers as breakout artists (they came from a near bankrupt company and during this time were starting to challenge the establishment in Korea) to make this song. They not only made this song that referenced the tragedy, but they also donated to families and met with families. It really blows my mind that media here calls BTS "robotic" or "factory-made idols" just because they're a Korean group when they've been real from the beginning. You can see their sincerity in what they do despite any label of "Korean idol" or "boyband." In fact that word "boyband"......it does nothing but cause them to have inaccurate stereotypes and baggage.

The explanation by Bulletproof vibes is most popular in deciphering MV, but this Italian version has the most in-depth explanation of the actual tragedy. The Bulletproof Vibe version is easiest to digest for first timer, Italian version is when you want to go deep dive.

I had known about the Sewol ferry incident, and I knew that the incident was disgusting and I was honestly horrified when I first found out what happened, but this video had really opened my eyes to how truly disgusting the situation was. the fact that the crew had insisted that the students not do anything and stay where they were, despite knowing that it was sinking, and the students just followed because they were always taught to follow and obey the orders of authority figures/older people is so fucking disgusting
@busybee10663 жыл бұрын
It is. Yes, it is. In a way we are all taught to follow and to have faith in the benevolence of our 'leaders'. Societies rely on that (often justified, but ever so often naively too). Accidents? Usually there are good reasons for safety instructions. People who cannot fully assess a situation and start acting on instinct, can be a hazzard to themselves and to other people who are caught in the same dangerous situation. So in most modern societies we all learn to more or less trust the people who are in charge. What happened at the Sewol is a BIG AND DISGUSTING BETRAYAL of that trust. This is not a case of 'we did what we could, but tragically it didn't work out', this is a case of 'this will never work out and I will save my own ass'. The captain, shortly after telling all the passengers to stay put, has reportedly been one of the first to leave the ferry, when the coast guard arrived. In civilian clothes, so as not to be recognized as the one in charge. Imagine the parents of the students who died. In a documentary I heard that some of them were called by their kids when the ferry started to tilt. They were hundreds of kilometres away. Most of them recommended their children to do what was asked of them, all in good faith that the accompanying teachers, the captain and crew of the ship, the coast guard would know how to handle the situation in the best way possible. Just imagine you tell your child to rely on those instructions and later you learn, that only those who didn't do that had a chance to survive. Heartbreaking and Soulshattering.

I love what you said about how it can be viewed as a song about breakup or loss, and same with the MV, or upon closer inspection, there can be more layers. I think that's very true and no accident that it's very approachable ? listenable? as a standalone piece without any background necessary. It's like that with the Bangtan Universe storyline stuff too - everything can be 100% enjoyed as it is or there is another layer of themes and a story that you can dig into if you so choose.

If you have seen the intro to BTS and learnt about their struggles and how they came from a very poor agency to rise to this level on top of the music videos which speak messages you start to understand the gravity and importance of army and protecting both youth and BTS. They not only protect the group but look out for each other at times forming friendships and even doing charities in BTS name. The songs are extremely important in bonding BTS and army, not because of the song itself but the messages it contains. Yet behind the scenes even in the newest song Butter Hotter remix you see how much fun the guys have being with each other goofing around, same as the first day we first met them..........

BTS handles a lot of symbols in their visual material like us MVs, Short Films, Clip and more. As you could see in the Spring Day MV, even the smallest details have their reason for being. It is a bit complicated at the beginning but when one already knows the context and the background of BTS's work, it is easier to recognize all those details and their meaning. Although that does involve burning a lot of neurons. But it's interesting because it really forces us to think and go beyond the obvious.
@skye95413 жыл бұрын
With the most of BTS mvs any backgrounds, props, wardrobes and dance movements are very carefully chosen. Even a little things are detaily put there for reasons and serve purposes. Nothing is there just randomly. People just listen and watch their mvs without knowing how BTS handle their work miss all these great minds and creativity.
@luzcartagena68693 жыл бұрын
Before you react to the MV again, I STRONGLY suggest that you watch the Bulletproof Vibes explanation. That video will give you a better symbology breakdown, as well as the various artistic references provided by the song lyrics. If you do that, when you watch the MV again, you can better understand the true genius of the song, MV and storyline. BTS members are complex individuals and BH has always supported, encouraged and fostered that complexity to be able to use the "artists and music for healing" the company motto that the members insisted be the goal of all they would create. These are storylines within storylines that are then left up to our interpretation. What Big Hit (HYBE) and the members have created is outstanding and awe-inspiring. I don't think we will ever see another group and company work in such an organic and symbiotic way with each other and their fans the way BTS, BH and ARMY do.

Spring Day is a very special song, it holds a lot of weight not only in itself, for the events that it makes reference to and the feelings it represents, but it’s also meaningful in other ways to the fans. It was the final song for the entire Wings tour, during which the final part with the Ooh Oh Oh is sung in chorus by the audience for a long time (it can give you chills). BTS spent years then without performing it, until last year when they suddenly couldn’t meet their fans anymore and Spring Day became unfortunately a very fitting choice for their recorded performances. A few additional facts: it’s BTS’ longest charting song in Korean charts (it’s still charting). ARMYs call it the Queen and we joke that it has a life of its own: every time BTS releases a new song Spring Day starts climbing back up on the charts. K-ARMYs even have an affectionate nickname for it.

I don’t want to take anything away from the tragedy of Sewol Ferry Disaster, but since it’s talked about in the video, I just wanted to point out that the Hillsborough Disaster happened in 1989. I was 9 at the time and obviously back then we didn’t have the internet, and we were completely dependent on the established media’s reporting of the incident. The match was between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest, at Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield, with the incident occurring at the end allocated to the Liverpool supporters. You can read up more on Hillsborough yourself but to summarise what happened... to relieve the queues outside the stadium and at the turnstiles entering it, the people queuing were allowed into the stadium. But the match had already kicked off, and the stadium was already crowded, and back in those days football stadiums had fenced standing terraces. You can imagine what happened, the people entering crowded the already crowded terraces, and those on the terraces had no where to go but forward straight into the fences. People fell and were trampled and people at the front were crushed into the fences. The police in charge of policing the match would go on to blame the Liverpool fans (note that it’s not just adults at the match but children as well) to the media, vilifying them as drunken hooligans who caused the tragedy. The inquest into the incident, the deaths of 96 people and the injuries of 100s more, ruled that it was “accidental”. The corruption goes deeper with an attempt to re-open the inquest being denied on the grounds that there was no justification to do so. It has taken many years of campaigning by the victims’ families to bring about a new inquest, to uncover the truth of what happened that day, and to clear the name of the fans. After the Hillsborough Disaster, safety at football stadiums was addressed with fenced standing terraces being changed to be all seated. As I understand it, the version of the song “You’ll Never Walk Alone” by Gerry & The Pacemakers was already associated with Liverpool FC, but after the incident, it understandably took on a whole new level of meaning for the club and its supporters kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYeYkH-Hdtd_l5I

Please check out the analysis done by bulletproof vibes too at least on your own…they got a lot of the same but bulletproof vibes went into more depths in other aspects of the music and the video and had some slightly different interpretations of some scenes it’s really good 😊

the bulletproof vibes is very thin in justifying their claims to why the Sewol theory is true, they put too much emphasis on the movie, did bare minimum of explaining Sewol and watching it won't bring up anything new in value compare to this explanation. in comparison, this video is an actual well-researched explanation to multiple scenes in the music video, as gives actual background to what happened and the social-political mood in Korea - and actual words of BTS about the theory with RM's newspaper interview comment.

This is the greatest reaction by a film maker. Who can understand “ Spring day” perfectly if they don’t know the facts. Whose filmmakers and singers can think to express their social issues and social conflicts for their music videos!! Thanks for uploading this video!!
@TwoMiceOnMyBookshelf3 жыл бұрын
There are three distinct analysis videos on Spring Day. This one gives you the raw facts. Another by “Don’t Worry I’m Not Afraid” focused on grief and youth mortality. The one I have seen most recommended is one by Bulletproof Vibe (?) because it is one interpretation which focused more on BTS and the music video itself. Personally, I found raw facts to allow me to have my own interpretations. While the interpretations of others contribute to those. I myself see new things every time. Thanks as always for your time.

One thing that wasn’t mentioned though is, that other artist who openly critiqued Park Geun Hye got banned or censored. So spring day was super risky for 2017 BTS, who are not only from an indie label but were just starting to be successful, after four years since their debut. The spring day video is cryptic for a reason. But everyone in Korea directly got the message. Also I was at one of the candle light demonstrations in dongdaemun and for an hour or so, BTS showed up at one of the organised stages and basically Guerilla performed spring day.

In fact, many of BTS's songs describe 'problems' very well. It makes me proud that a group that attracts so much attention and recognition in the world offers a perspective on such human problems and imposes this on their songs and videos.

This song and Film Out for me are beautiful and very relatable explorations of grief. There's imagery in the lyrics that always hit me really hard and bring back feelings I had about loved ones passing, but the songs also provide me with comfort and the feeling of being understood. It's healing and it actually helped me deal with some buried emotions I had about my experience with grief. I really am in love with Spring Day (and Film Out too) for that reason, but also for what the music video represents.

I dunno how many times I watched that video...but I sob everytime! My favorite BTS song ever...the lyrics just hits so hard esp.after just having lost a loved one. Spring day will always hold a special place in my heart. So glad I found this song. Truly, you will find BTS when you need them.

I think the biggest takeaway from the mv is how it asks people not to forget, but also the point of Spring Day is telling the survivors and friends/families that Winter will pass and Spring will always come - I think they most needed to remind the kids that suddenly lost almost 300 of their school mates - imagine being a survivor knowing you no longer have a class cos all your classmates have just died... survivors guilt, along with how does anyone/a nation move past a situation where almost 300 kids were told not to save themselves and they listened and obeyed the adults, only for them to just drown while the adults saved themselves. The whole situation is just insane... but you can't sing for the lost kids you can only try to console the still living who are living a much tougher life... Also I appreciate that BigHit was quite poor then, that they decided to donate what they could was touching. Anyway thanks for watching.

I knew about the Sewol Ferry situation and I knew about how Spring Day was a tribute. I also knew of the corruption and the cowardly crew and captain... but seeing this video opened my eyes as to how corrupt and disgusting this whole situation was. There are no words to describe the betrayal of the government...going as far as to not help the trapped students and not letting others help them either and then when some volunteers did manage to save some of them, they were told they were obsuring rescuers and all that. Even going as far as to sabotage the diving gear...those were your people in that water! Your people that were trapped and drowning! To see the family members and friends at the side line seeing with their own eyes that no one was rescuing their children/siblings/friends and not letting anyone else rescue them either... it made me bawl my eyes out

Thank you for reacting to this. She has so much info there, I would almost recommend watching it again before reacting to spring day again tomorrow. This really shows one of the reasons bts is so loved by so many. They didn’t just show support here, this was a song of comfort and recognition of the pain Korea had suffering and encouragement to never again let something like that happen. If you’re interested in seeing how else they commented on the situation, you could watch their performance of Am I Wrong, where they reference comments made by politicians and the time. They performed that before Park was impeached so it was pretty bold, but skating the line of plausible deniability, just like spring day, so they managed to be critical and show support without actually being blacklisted

Goosebumps Everytime I heard those love one's shouting that "THEY DIDN'T DO ANYTHING" and "THEY ARE STILL ALIVE". Because dude , it's too painful . I have known this song for a long time and ofcourse I know it is meant for those people who lost their friends and family because of that tragedy. But when that girl explained it to us more deeply I finally. Fully understand spring day and I really feel disgusted about those corrupt who let those people suffered and die.

I also saw that the scene with all the members going up the stairs while Jin is in the middle represents how the victims who lost their lives are just watching everyone grow up(go up the stairs) while they are just stuck in the bottom (not able to grow up with them)

It’s so heartbreaking because everyone could’ve been rescued. I read an article which said most of them died of hypothermia rather than drowning, indicating that the rescue was flawed. The captain and the crew had also left the ship leaving the passengers behind. Linking back to Spring Day, I believe that when Jin and V made a camera with their hands, it indicates the students who were taking videos of what was happening. A 20 minute video was recovered from Kim Dong Hyeop’ phone (a 16 year old student who passed due to the tragedy) of what it was like being on the ship as it was sinking. Students were told to stay where they were, and they obeyed because in Korea they are taught to show respect to their elders, but it would’ve been much smarter if they could get closer to the deck as it would’ve been easier to escape. Those few who did survive believe that the reason they were able to escape was because they didn’t listen to their elders and made it out on their own. When they were recovering bodies a diver was moved to tears when he found that two highschool students who were dating, Kim Sujin and Lee Jeongin, had tied their wrists together with string to ensure they didn’t loose each other. In Kim Dong Hyeop’s video, one of his friends Slava, gave his life jacket to someone who didn’t have one and said he’d go and find another one. One of the survivors said he had seen Slava and asked why he didn’t have a vest on, who responded saying that he gave it to his friend. The survivor says that he will forever regret not giving the student his own life jacket. To this day there are still 4 bodies missing.

Thanks so much for reacting to the mv explanation- im not from S.Korea but it was because of Spring Day that brought me awareness to the tradegy. It really struck such a cord in me - i can never forget it, all i can think of are young kids who didnt have to die -- also my heart goes out to parents of the kids -- they camped out at the pier until the body.of their child was retrieved- its very heart breaking to watch a parent survive their own child -- Spring Day came out in 2017 and it is still in the S. Korean charts.

Its heartbreaking, I saw a tweet a couple years ago that around this time those kids would’ve been graduating and I broke down crying. They had so much life to live and because of corrupt, selfish and irresponsible adults they’re gone. I can’t imagine what the parents felt during that and now even, I can’t imagine what it would feel like to lose a child.

This was a good video, she does talk very fast haha but yes the clips from news and media are the best to gain insight. They only showed a small bit of footage recovered from student phones while they were sinking but its still hard to watch even short clps

Birth of the Yellow Ribbon CampaignEdit A group of university students known as Active Autonomous Alter Life Together (ALT) posted online a design featuring a bow outlined in black on a yellow background, with the caption, "May One Small Movement Bring a Great Miracle," to express hopes of the victims' safe return.[4] The symbol went viral as people changed their profile pictures on social media accounts and Seoul decorated its streets with yellow ribbons.[4] The original intent of the campaign was to signify hopes of return, but when it became clear that the victims would not return alive, the yellow ribbons became a symbol of mourning and remembrance.[5] The significance of the symbol further evolved as people found out that these deaths could have been prevented and began to question and rebel against the government's incompetence.[5] In the follow months, the campaign gained further momentum as families of the victims adopted the yellow ribbons as their main symbol for protesting against the government.[4]

the most important part of their mv are the carefully placed scenes and what they represent. the boys take a lot of consideration in the making of the mvs because of the message they want to send out. i would recommend watching BTS mv for "Stay Gold" this song just really brought out how most people were feeling during the pandemic.

Some of the student's parents have shared videos their children took while being told to stay in their cabins, they show the growing fear and the water starting to over take them. You see and hear children sending messages to their families of sorrow and love. The parents shared these videos so no one will forget. It is heartbreaking, but I also consider it brave and meaningful to have done this. No one should be forgotten. It was an avoidable tragedy 😔

It was my first time watching the full context of the Sewol tragedy, omg i was seeing and crying all at once, its so unfair the goverment just let them die, so sad and so shocking how corruption causes so much pain and loss. BTS and the MV Director made such a great job with the music and the MV, it was already sad for me because korean people used this song also in the pandemic of COVID19 to cheer each other and bring hope that we would be together again, and meet again after the pandemic, and i cried always hearing this song in 2020, so now its more important and probably ill keep on crying with this but at the same time it would remain everyone that something like this tragedy cannot happen again, we cant let this happen again. RIP to all the people who left in this tragedy.
