If you’re talking about the enhanced AI that Apple uses (that you can’t disable in photos), it’s horrible. It gives a watercolor paint effect to photos.

Its pretty cool see an actual KZbinr/Photographer/Videographer recommending people to use an iPhone instead of buying a really expensive DSLR or Mirrorless Camera. I have been saying this for years. That smartphones will eventually replace DSLR cameras because of their ease of use and computational photography. Awesome video btw.

I want Apple to do more work on their potrait mode and telephoto camera .This is the camera and mode that people use the most and loves to use .So improving that will be amazing and I really don’t understand why Apple isn’t using the lidar sensor for portrait mode .It’s been three years since they introduced the lidar sensor but still they are not using it to improve the edge direction and depth mapping while taking portrait mode photos or cinematic video

Speaking of cinematic mode, one thing people don't think about, and I haven't seen any reviewers mention is that it enhances low light, because ML-blur occurs post-noise I've been shooting a lot of cinematic mode at Ultra Europe and with the festival-style editing and cutting pace I swear it looked exactly like the event cam Ultra posted

Cheers Matti, I started my videography business with the iPhone 13 Pro Max and have just upgraded to the 14 Pro. Winning client work now after a year or so pushing iPhone videography with little success but the tech is improving scarily fast. That being said, for low-light situations I have decided to purchase a Sony A7IV, so the iPhone 14 Pro shooting ProRes will be my B Cam. Did you shoot this using just the iPhone native app or did you opt for a third party setup? Thanks , Tom

Over sharpening is still HORRIBLE, especially in video... WE NEED an option to reduce the ULTRA SHARPENING that ruins the footage. And keep in mind that KZbin compresses and smooths things out. Another great video, as always!

I find the best way is to purchase third party filters and use a moment case etc. Cinebloom 5% or 10% works well, but obviously this won't work for everyday shooting.

great review. Big fan of your work. I would think that a person who is interested in photography would still benefit from buying a mirrorless camera. The iPhone adjusts a lot of things for you whereas a standard camera doesn’t. It’ll teach them how to dial in what they want. I think it would be difficult for someone to go from an iPhone to a Sony A7s3 or something similar to it.

I use my camera for real estate photos and this upgrade is definitely worth it. The ultra wide is def better in low light, and the new wide camera is gonna help me get even more professional looking photos. Cinematic mode in 4k is replacing my Canon M50 for my talking head videos. I don’t have blur issues for me since I have short hair and no glasses it looks much better than my starter camera and I hate the workflow of using a camera. Selling a lot of stuff right now lol

Yup. If this phone came out 2-3 years ago, I may never have needed to get into mirrorless cameras. For talking heads, it looks fantastic! Most people would automatically assume its a nice camera. Small imperfections, but much better than the 13. The focus racks are so natural too. Dynamic range of course, is perfect, especially with prores. I'd love to see a video comparing the colour science of iPhone, Sony, and Canon. Both with straight out of camera, and graded to match.

iPhone is good, but cannot compete with a Camera like Sony. It depends a bit what kind of videos you do of course. What I like with bigger cameras is much better color grading changes, less noise, depth of field and much more options with lenses.

Obviously the mjrrorless will be higher quality, more flexible grading, better noise. BUT just how much does it matter for KZbin. Noise will probably be the biggest thing, but for quick sequences, not many people are gonna notice

The video on 14pro is too overly sharp. You can see this on a video which compares it to the s22 ultra, which looks far more natural (albeit a slightly too contrasty look)

I am very impressed with the cameras (especially the main one) on the new iPhone 14 Pro. I am not so convinced by cinematic mode, too obvious artefacts around the subject... and I am still wondering how long it's gonna take filmmakers to consider 24 fps might not be the most cinematic or correct frame rate for KZbin that is displayed on 60 Hz displays mostly. Judders (unlike 24 fps in cinemas!) and is mostly a prehistoric and clichee-based choice.
