It’s only been several weeks since I’ve seen the 8 hour Get Back documentary on Blu-Ray, and after having seen it, I now understand why The Beatles kept the Let It Be film from release. The first two days of recording seemed to go okay, but on the third day, January 6, 1969 is when things began to fall apart. I think Ringo was right when he said they were 4 guys who really loved each other, and they didn’t like to fight argue with each other, and they certainly didn’t want to put out a product that wasn’t top notch. The Beatles took their legacy very seriously, which is why they called it quits after producing Abbey Road.

It’s mind blowing that, in less than one year, they recorded no less than seven classics: Let it Be, Get Back, Long and Winding Road, Something, Balad of John and Yoko, Here Comes the Sun and Come together. Amazing group. My total respect.

As a succinct look at Let it Be, this video is better than the original film. 😂 Good vid! Because these sessions were so comprehensively documented, there's a lot of heavy lifting for folks out there who care to dig in. I'd recommend the still in-progress WINTER OF OUR DISCONTENT podcast, which is essentially an annotated version of the Nagra tapes. The raw tapes are there, but WoOD gives some great context.

I had to laugh out loud at the end when you said the album was widely criticized and showing Donna Reed's character in "It's a Wonderful Life" angrily breaking that album on the top of her phonograph. That's great. "Liverpool Boys Won't You Come Out Tonight" ("and... dance by the light of the music", or maybe... "dance by the light of the money"?? Yeah! That's the ticket!!)

Abbey Road really was their swan song. Let It Be was kind of a damp squib after that.
@jimsteele20722 ай бұрын
But, Let Be, or Get Back was recorded before Abbey Road, released after. So Abbey Road is actually their swan song. ✌️
@bingus3671Ай бұрын
Let it be was actually recorded before abbey road (except for “I me mine” and the overdubs on “let it be”), but was released after abbey road was done. The reason it wasn’t released before abbey road was because it was unfinished and was still in the process of being mixed. After abbey road was released, Paul, George, and ringo then finished “I me Mine” and put some overdubs on “Let it be”, and that finished the let it be album. That was the last thing that they did before splitting.
@PatSingleton-o3rАй бұрын

They didn't have any interest in it all. It sounded lame and half assed when they were rehearsing it in Get Back. That was a smart move that George made, saving it for his own solo endeavor.

George had a valid point. Just look at the song count of the white album. Both John snd Paul had twelve songs each. George had four and Ringo had two. The majority of Beatle albus have fourteen tracks, so having twelve tracks to yourself is almost like a soli album. Paul could have given up Ehy zDon't we do it in the road and the two honey pies. john could have given up revolution.. As fun as revolution 9 is to listen to does that really belong on a Beatles album? i don't think sny of the others contributed to it. its really a john and yoko thing

George wasn’t as good a song writer. Plain and simple.
@dean-ph2wwАй бұрын
@GenericNintendoKid Nothing regarding The Beatles is plain and simple. Being only 13 when he joined John's skiffle group he was younger than the other guys and not taken seriously. He did not come up with Beatle worthy songs until mid 1965 when Help was released. I Need You and You Like Me Too Much are just as catchy as most of the songs John and Paul were coming up with at the time. "Only A Northern Song," "Blue Jay Way," "If I Needed Someone" "It's All Too Much," " I Me Mine" and "For You Blue" are all good George songs. When George said " James has got nothing on this baby." during " For You Blue" he was referring to Paul whose middle name is James. I

Isn’t it a pity and Let it down. George was on fire. But they chose a subpar For You Blue for the album. Not sure how.
@TigerRogers06602 ай бұрын
I guess John felt enthusiastic about trying a new style on guitar (lap steel). That was probably the only reason he put any effort into it. Most other George songs he showed no interest at all.
