Season 1 of "That Girl" was terrific. The chemistry between Ann and Donald is priceless. Such an adorable couple. What a dream it would be to have someone like Donald Hollinger for a boyfriend. He's caring, thoughtful, intelligent, and good looking. Marlo Thomas and Ted Bessell were perfect in their roles, a wonderful actress and actor. Marlo Thomas was really involved with this show and we have her to thank for helping create such an entertaining television 📺 show and also working so hard behind the camera with production. A genius.

Growing up watching this show, Marlo Thomas was what I imagined was the perfect girl (beautiful, caring, funny, playful and seeing her smile still warms my heart).

The actors playing Ann’s parents are so ‘natural as an old couple’. Great acting

Yes, I love those two together. The mom knows exactly how to deal with him. Even in his gruffness, they harmonize well together

The opening theme was the best of all the seasons, especially with those 1960's shots of NYC.

What a sweet episode. I love the way Ann coaxes Don into declaring his “intentions” at the end. 8 months of steady dating, at that age, for that generation, she would have needed some assurances!

Donald Hollinger. So handsome, caring, and witty. I had a bit of a crush on him in 6th grade.

You can sure see how Marlo Thomas had perfect comedic timing in her delivery of lines in every episode she did. Plus her father Danny Thomas giving her his backing and moral support. Precious❣

Donald uncharacteristically plays with Ann's emotions. He runs off instead of talking things out. Twice. Grown men don't let their egos get in the way of important relationships. They deal maturely with problems until they are solved. In a perfect world. I guess the writers didn't want Don to appear weak.

Lew Marie is portrayed as a stereotypical overprotective father. It's a shame, because this show, and Marlo Thomas herself, were groundbreaking in terms of smashing female stereotypes. There were men in this era, my father included, who treated their daughters, me included, as independent, self-sufficient young women. As for Marlo, when she says at the end of this episode, "I now pronounce us boy and girl", and says "cherish" instead of "obey" in the vow she makes for Don and herself, I can hear the seeds of the excellent program, Free To Be You And Me, being planted. Gender equality is then taking a foot hold in our society.

@@randilevson9547 I don't think Ann was that independent. In most of season 1 (so far) she's constantly asking Don to 'borrow' money and his car and she doesn't seem to respect HIS independence as much because she makes a lot of decisions for him. But maybe she's still trying to break free from her dependency that she was use to with her dad.

It *would* be unusual to find such a young child alone on a NYC street, I think. Someone on the creative team thought it would be sweet to see Ann help a little child. No one thought it through. Also, children were more free range back then. That is realistic, whether we in the 21st century like it or not. On the other hand, in what looks like a downtown business district, it *would* be unusual to see a toddler alone like that. When people are creating art and entertainment they are not always thinking about what will seem realistic, they are focused on the look, sound, and emotional impact of what they're making.

The opening and closing scenes of everyday people moving about in NYC reminds me of the era when people took pride in their appearance. You 'cleaned up' to go out for whatever reason. Look at today where society has degraded to pathetic standards: wearing PJs and bedroom shoes to go shopping, wearing clothes that don't fit, etc. Sad.

I've been cooking for 58 years, and the BEST way to make an Italian sauce is with hamburger and Italian sausage---or meatballs. It gives the sauce extra flavor and body. Paprika in meatballs? I don't think so. Oh and I NEVER allowed my parents to interfere in my relationships.

You have to remember that in the 1950s-60s young women listened to their parents a lot more than now. That explains Ann's parents rather controlling behaviour and checking up on her 24/7. That kind of situation is very dated now but you have to remember that sixty years ago times were different.

Lew interferes too much. Ann should have had the guts to tell Frank the truth, then gone out with Don. Ann's "daddy's girl" position is irksome.
