Confidentially, a Studio Ghibli adaptation of Pippi Longstocking sounds like a great idea. Having the beautiful art of Miyazaki combined with a whimsical story of a girl with superhuman strength, a pet monkey, and a suitcase of gold; trying to live without parents, it just seems like a proto Kiki. I don't blame Astrid Lindgren for protecting her creation after the first film adaptation, but it's a tragedy that this didn't happen.

@giannaalbanese61802 жыл бұрын
I have to agree with you, I would have loved to see Ghibli’s take on Pippi! I’ve seen a majority of the previous adaptations of the book and the closest to the actual stories was the original Swedish TV show/films that the author had a part in. Just based on the concept art alone, I think Ghibli would have knocked it out of the park and it might have honestly became the definitive film for the entire series.

Sad to see that the movie "A Topiary" wasn't on this list. It's one of the most creative and intriguing sci-fi script I have ever read. It revolves around a group of kids who find a strange machine that produces small disk like objects. At first, the kids only use the disk to play games with each other, but soon learn how to make actual living creatures using the disk. By the end of the story, they are making huge dragon like beasts to use in fights between another group of people who are also making creatures using the disk. The script goes into mind blowing detail describing how the the disk works and how these creatures are made. I would literally do anything have a chance to see this script be adapted for the big screen. There is a pitch trailer for it out on youtube that I would highly recommend to go watch if you're interested.

Really appreciate this niche video that talks about film history, production, and the things that could have been. It always irks me a bit when articles/videos on Lost Media talk about films like these that were just straight-up never finished because there's such a different discussion to be had about films that ALMOST existed. Your takes on film history are some of my favorite videos. This was a perfect iceberg video and if you do return to Icebergs (TM) more often, I think you making your own icebergs is a good decision that gives you more creative freedom and room to talk about what you want.

The way that Tarantino made his character in "My Best Friend's Birthday" have a foot fetish is pretty fucking hilarious tbh. Like, this dude probably wrote that thinking that audiences would look at that and say "Oh, that's just his character" whenever somebody brings it up. With the Napoleon story, I can only imagine how gutted Kubrick must have been, I mean all his hard work went to waste. I believe MGM owned the rights to the Napoleon idea, so when Kubrick migrated to Warner Bros he couldn't finish Napoleon with them (I guess the closest we got was Barry Lyndon). Actually I think Napoleon falling through might have been part of the reason A Clockwork Orange was made on a low budget. That and 2001 going over budget and being a financial and box office disappointment, Kubrick made A Clockwork Orange on a low budget to prove he could.
