Every child except for Charlie were chosen because they all had an aspect of their upbringing/family that would lend itself to running the factory. Veruca's father was a prominent business owner (management) and Veruca was able to get anything she wants out of the people around her. Augustus's father was a prominent butcher (international management) with international ties and Augustus was a food lover who would enjoy the food itself. Violet's father was a politician (business policies/regional politics/HR) so she could learn politics and Violet was a determined and competitive girl. Mike was a tv lover and would be great with marketing and technology. I imagine that different members of Wonka's team chose them because of these attributes while Wonka decided to give his choice to the candy shop owner. The candy shop owner chose Charlie because he could see Charlie staring from the window before work and when the last ticket was "found", Charlie bought chocolate not because of the prize, but because he genuinely wanted some and even thought of his grandpa. ...but that's just a theory

Pretty sure the "accidents" during Wonka's tour were planned out carefully too: 1. When the tour group rides in both the paddleboat and later on in the Wonkawash car, ALL SEATS ARE FULL. The "surprise exit" of each child & adult matches perfectly with the available seating in each vehicle. 2. The fact that at the end of the tour, only one child is left to inherit the factory.

At some point in one of the two movies (I forget which) someone notes that the oompa loompas seem to have their performances oddly... memorized. Choreographed. Rehearsed. As if they knew exactly what was going to happen. Wonka tries to cover for this by calling it improvisation. It's very clear that you are correct. They weren't accidents. They were traps, to see if Wonka's 'read' on each kid really was accurate. Would Augustus abuse the factory to give himself chocolate? Could Violet overcome her competitive spirit to follow good advice? Would Veruca's greed get the better of her? Would Mike's ambition lead him to self-destruction? Well, the answer is yes.

Interesting theory. ) Also one of the first things I thought about was wealth distribution. If I remember correctly the book, the bars were not cheap (at least not for Charlie, who was simply very poor). Also funny thing is, Charlie was walking past the factory nearly regularly, so he lived at the same town, where the Wonkas' factory was situated. So even as a child I thought, how convenient it was that the golden tickets happened to appear close the factory itself (maybe just some of them, but still suspicious!). :) Concerning the "kid question", wasn't it explicitly stated, that the excursion to the factory was for kids? As I understand, if grown-ups found the tickets, then they were supposed to give them to their children. As, I think, was with Veruca.

Personal theory: Veruca Salt was the only kid who got her golden ticket 'legitimately'. She had the personal finances and manpower to basically just hit the slot machine infinitely and grind out the probability until she got one. You missed the real nail in the coffin: The other "winners" had obsessions that lead them to harm while in the factory...in rooms practically (and possibly) designed to tempt them each specifically, to the point where Wonka isn't even surprised by any of it. Then the actual "winner" just happens to be a kid from the town the factory is in, with a family member who used to work in the factory? Charlie was clearly hand chosen to inherit Wonka's FDA nightmare. Clever scheme to take his wealth and run before the legality of his deathtrap catches up with him.
@TheSteelmushroom4 жыл бұрын
Though at the same time what would really be the point of inviting those kids in the first place so they end up in traps specifically for them and wasting some time walking around when he could of asked Charlie in person? Charlie would very most likely would of accepted it because of the poor financial state of his family and he wants to care for his family in anyway possible which would of saved Wonka a lot of trouble or time. It could of possibly been for publicity maybe but then the company is already global and has a good reputation. Maybe Wonka a sadist but there probably no evidence to suggest that based off his personality plus his character seems very carefree which probably explains why he not surprised a lot of the time. Also I'm pretty sure in the original movie Charlie floated up using bubbles to a ceiling fan and almost got sliced up but luckily avoided that at the last second.

The reason for all the British actors is, I assume, because Roald Dahl’s original book is set in England, with Wonka being inspired by Cadbury who would send test chocolates to schools so the children could try them and give them feedback - read “Boy”, Dahl’s first memoir, for more.
@thevfxmancolorizationvfxex40514 жыл бұрын
I'd say that Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory was just an Americanized version of Roald's story. Also, Why are Americans too stubborn to give any other adaptation of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory that is not the Gene Wilder one a chance? The Tim Burton film (which is not a fucking remake!) and the original book had some redeeming qualities to them. Plus, they had to modify the Broadway play to make it like the Wilder one because a flood of Karens would get triggered if it wasn't like the Wilder one

@@missmangobat5628 indeed. It works as it's own unique adaptation of the story. If those Karens say that the Tim Burton adaptation was just a remake of the Gene Wilder version, then by that logic, The Passion of The Christ is a remake of The Last Temptation of Christ. See how stupid that sounds?
@missmangobat56284 жыл бұрын
The Colorization Channel You're right, that's the same logic. People really need to realise that there can be multiple own adaptations, that are not rip-offs of their favourites. And I guess that those Karens don't even know that the movies are based off a book, they probably don't read anyways. That could educate them and then they could start thinking about what they yell into people's faces... nah.
@ericbeilmann36494 жыл бұрын
I found something interesting a few months ago. Apparently the kid that played Charley was not told in advance that Wonka was going to yell at him at the end so that they could get a genuine reaction. Gene Wilder said he really wanted to tell him it was coming and that it was just going to be acting but the director forbade it. It looks like some other things like that were surprises to the actors too such as the candy garden room, Wonka's limp and somersault and his acting on the boat.

Sorry for being THAT person but if this is true, then this is a pretty shitty move from the production team in my opinion. Of course it's not like the kid will be traumatized by this but it's just not cool to not tell a child in advance that something scary might happen, especially when that child is literally working for you. Child actors are already under a lot of stress and pressure and I don't like how they unnecessarily and intentionally not told him crucial information about a scene in order to get better shots. If I was him, I would have started to wonder what else they might not have told me yet. It's a pretty interesting fact though, thanks for sharing

Theory Pitch: So, there is this scene in Mary Poppins returns where they need to turn back time, so Mary Poppins enlists the help of the leeries (Lamp Lighters). There seem to be around 30-40 men. They all have ladders, which seem to be around 4-5 feet tall (I could be wrong) and they use them to climb up Big Ben. About halfway up the clock they run out of ladders, so Jack lays a ladder down vertically and walks across it. After he counts down a leerie jumps on the ladder and sends Jack flying up to the clock in Big Ben. I've been wondering if one, you could climb up Big ben the same way they did in the movie, and two, if you could put enough weight on a ladder to send someone flying as high as Jack.

(and you best believe that Disney wants some Mickey Mouse chocolate bars). And why would he send five when he only wanted one child? P.S.: What if a signal adult found the a golden ticket?

I love the idea that wonka predetermined the kids because it’s so interesting to think of how he would’ve chosen them. Veruca and Violet both have rich fathers with companies so they would have “experience” with business type matters and how a factory would run. Augustus is CLEARLY passionate about chocolate so he could even have ideas about expanding the company with new products (? Or maybe he’d just love the job lol) Mike honestly just seems like he’d grow up to be some business guy, even though during the story he’s always seen as this typical boy obsessed with TV. He’s direct and clearly says what’s on his mind. Also because of how much more “childlike” he’s portrayed, he seems to be in touch with who his target demographic would be if he were to run the company. Then Charlie was a lot harder to guess on but the most likely reason would be because he lives so close to the Wonka Factory. I don’t know how Wonka could’ve known who he is even with that information but that’s MatPat’s job to figure out, not mine! (Just kidding, amazing theory 💚🎮)

You should make a theory about how the rooms that they go to are what the kids like, example with violet boagard, there was a room with gum even though Wonka hates gum. Which also means he’s been spying on all five of the kids and everything was perfectly laid out for Charlie so he could find them,it’s kinda weird that he found a ten dollar bill in the street. Wonka also knew that Charlie was poor and gave him chocolate and this all can be proven for both movies. Also Wonka knew that all the kids would be attracted by all the rooms and there wasn’t a room that had anything Charlie liked.

Canonically speaking, the story takes place anywhere in terms of the book. Only the movies specify America. The book is like Babe, where the geographical location is never clarified as it's arbitrary to the story. Hence the weird mishmash of imagery and apparent nationality of the characters. C+TCF takes place in just "a town", and Babe takes place on just "a farm".

At the time the movie was shown during the 70's, I remember that American products were pretty hard to obtain in my country, the Philippines. In fact, there was only one speciality store where you could get it consistently and when we were kids, we were always very excited during the rare moments when our mom would go that store and buy American made breakfast cereals, chocolate milk powder and candies for us. (Of course, everything was sold with premium prices) If the Wonka movie actually happened in real life during that time, our chances of finding a ticket would only be slightly higher than Charlie's.

@@VincentKraven I very much wish I could laugh at this or say you were wrong... but it's right on the money. Honestly, that's one of the biggest issues -- money. Public schools very often can't afford to pay teachers what they're actually worth, which means that they can't attract good teachers to work for them, and take what they can get. Add to that the USA's cultural take on teaching as a profession and you've got a recipe for disaster.

@chaosdirge49064 жыл бұрын
I mean yeah he could... you really don't need to do any research. He could really sue the producers the studio, everything and be set for life. His entire life was a lie, They basically gave him a permanent disability. He has No real skills, no choice of proper education was allowed to him. No one informed him that it was all a show when he became a legal adult, Not to mention there are laws about recording kids and working on film sets. No matter what the rules were in this fictional movie one way or another he definitely could sue the studio and probably the US government for allowing it to happen.

We also can't forget that not every group of people out there like chocolate. There's also markets where people either don't/can't spend much on candies or like chocolate that much so there won't be as much of it going to those areas and therefore the chances of a ticket going to there goes down too.

True now matap needs to restart the whole theory 😂
@notagoat2814 жыл бұрын
True, but virtually everyone wants the golden ticket, so chocolate sales, specifically Wonka sales, skyrocket even in those regions, causing suppliers to order more. He covered the people who _can't_ spend that much money on chocolate in the video, but I think the popularity factor of chocolate likely gets at least partially canceled out by the demand for the golden ticket. I mean, this contest had worse odds of winning than the lottery, but where you rarely ever see many people scrambling to buy hundreds of lottery tickets, pretty much _everyone_ is scrambling to try to get a golden ticket, so we know the contest's popularity alone is more than enough to make up for the possible lack of popularity of chocolate itself.
